I may be misunderstanding your question but...If you want the sink flush with the counter, you just mount it further back. It is up to the individual homeowner how far out to mount the sink. Some people go out up to 4 inches, others mount it flush. I chose for my farm sink to be flush with the doors in the cabinet below so it protrudes one inch. For a contemporary look, I would suggest a square corner instead of a radius corner. I also think the stainless farm sink would be great for your application.

One other thing, I have found splashing to be more prevalent with a farm sink vs an undermount. If the sink is really flush with the cabinets, water may end up going inside the doors. I have to wipe down my cabinets often because the water splashes down the front of the sink. Just something to keep in mind.

Good point about the splashing - I hadn't thought of that. Is it something that's bad enough to make you regret getting the farm sink? We're not 100% sold on that style but I've always loved it.

I can't help you with sink brands. I wanted a soapstone sink and never looked at any alternatives.

About the splashing issue...I think in general farmhouse sinks do splash more mostly because the front edge is one and a half inches lower than the sides. Also, the counter guys didn't line up my faucet with the drain so when the water hits stone, it comes right up. But, I would choose the same sink again, no question. Just go with what you like and you can't go wrong.

Maybe someone else can give you some recommended brands of their farm sinks.

If its not too late ... I'd like to suggest a Herbeau farmhouse sink. The front corners are square, and the top edge of the sink is almost flat, unlike the Shaw which has rounded corners and a rounded top edge. I bought mine from Homeclick.com.

I originally had the American Standard Porcher London farmhouse sink. Flat tops and square edges. It pitted like crazy after 18 months of gentle use. The warranty was for 1 year, so Porcher told me "too bad for you!" Lousy customer service and lousy product! So don't get that one!

I think stainless farm sinks are very cool looking (and no chipping concerns). Guessing that the color (wither gray, or charcol depending on whether you oil it) of the soapstone sink wouldn't work in your kitchen.
