Can granite be installed over existing sinks?

I have read other posts that indicate the granite fabricator installs the granite countertops before the sinks are placed. But what if your sinks are already in place? As part of the remodel of our kitchen, we added a prep sink in our island and will be replacing our top mounted kitchen sink with an undermount Shaw's farm house sink. DH has already installed the prep sink and it is plumbed and useable. He removed the countertop around the sink and it is surrounded by wood bracing within the cabinet. He drilled a hole in a wood stud and placed the faucet so that I can use it while the kitchen is being redone. Once the granite is ready to install, DH is planning to disconnect the faucet so that it can be repositioned on top of the granite.

DH also wants to install the farm house before the granite so that he can be sure it is properly braced and the cabinet front can be finished. (DH is doing all of the cabinets.)

Is it possible to install granite over the sinks or will they need to be removed?

Thanks,

Kathy
