Allowing Power Company to control your a/c

Delmarva power gives you a $5 (I think it's still $5???) for allowing them to control power to your a/c. That way they can avoid a brown/black out.

But I'm wondering if this could affect how the performance or reliability of the new high efficiency variable speed central air systems.

Given how much power costs now, $5 is hardly worth it so I'm wondering if I should contact them to remove their control before getting a new heating and air conditioning system.

Any thoughts?
