TGIF - May 21

Happy Friday!

Easy day today - going to finish painting the kitchen cabinets and finish spackling the bathroom wall (where I removed an old icky towel bar). Then a family BBQ tonight since it will be in the 80's and sunny today. Tommorrow is cleaning the garage with the family (yippee! LOL!) and Sunday is the Chocolate Show and then the Kitchen Garden Tour in my little home town. I am helping a friend "host" and doing one of the garden tour groups.

Hope everyone finds some time to relax and enjoy and do whatever the heck you feel like doing!

Your weekend sounds perfect to me! Have fun with the garden tour group!

Working today, then tomorrow is annual girl's canoe trip planning meeting. Yay! Actually we all pretty much know what we need to bring, the "meeting" lasts about 10 minutes and then it's cocktail time on the patio of a favorite restaurant! LOL

Hoping to get another perennial bed mulched on Sunday. Looks like the weather is going to be gorgeous again! I am so lovin' this spring!

Wow, Alexa, great weekend! You're going to be productive AND have some fun!

Linda - MY kind of meeting!

I'm looking forward to spending some time with both boys this weekend - one of only two weekends they are both home from college before they head off to their respective summer activities. No concrete plans yet, but I'm sure we'll come up with something!

Saturday night they head off to an Astros game with my husband and I'm off to a murder mystery dinner night with my girls group. I'm bringing dessert - probably brownies. The pressure is on because I have to put together a costume. Gotta get moving - it's TOMORROW night!!

Hello from London! (I wish!) DeeMarie - June 19th is when her new book, Lean Mean Thirteen comes out. I got 2 B&N GCs from my students, so I will be first in line to get it. I had previously pre-ordered it, but they were holding the rest of my order until June, so I canceled it and ordered something else. Now I am Ready, Willing and Able to start my summer reading. (((DONNA))) - Sending much love and many prayers your way. I have one more graduation to get through tonight, and I only say "get through" because of the way I feel. I finally broke down and made a doctor's appt. for tomorrow. This cough just won't go away and now I have a sinus headache to go along with the cough. Hopefully I will feel better by the weekend. NHSuzanne - How are you feeling? How are the chicks coming along? Raeanne - My DH has this habit of planting trees and then chopping them down when he thinks they are too big, the roots too close to the house or whatever. I came home from work one day this spring and he had chopped down 4 large pine trees that we had planted when we moved in in 1979. He also dinged the house while cutting them down, so I was not happy with him that day. Granted they were getting too tall and spindly, but they hid the neighbor's house from view and believe me when I say that was a good thing. Good luck with your landscaper. Hi All, I have been away from you all for so long, I don't even know where to begin. This past weeks weather has been unbelievable. It seems that every part of the country has had their cross to bear and now this is ours. School was cancelled on Monday due to flooding and there are some towns around us that still have not gone back. Some of you may have seen Peabody, Mass on the news alot. That is the town right next to us. Those poor people really got hit hard. I live on a pond, so we were sweating it for a while, but fortunately it did not flood. We had some water in our basement, but had 2 sump pumps running and it did keep up with it. I feel very, very fortunate. Our problems were just a nuisance, there are families that can't even get back into their homes. Nothing like this has ever happened in this area. It is very surreal. Certain streets in Salem look like a war zone. The city has lined some of the streets with dumpsters so people can toss their stuff. Everything is full of mud and trash. It is so hard to believe that this is my town. And ..... Dunkin Donuts is still closed!! They were completetly flooded with rain water and sewerage. Nice huh? I think I'll be going to a different Dunkies for a while. LOL John those pictures were unbelievable. There are many areas here that look the same. My brother is a fire fighter in Pelham, NH and says everything there is a mess. Suzanne, I'm glad that you did not have to build an arc for your animals! My spare time has been consumed with finding a dress to wear to DS wedding in September. Who would have thought it would be this difficult. I am going to another bridal shop on Saturday. They are supposed to have the dress I've been searching for. I found it on line, but would like to actually see it in person before ordering. I hope this works out. It is not fun any more. I went with DS and the rest of the crew the other night to do the tuxes. My eyes welled up to see DS in his grooms clothes. He could be a model. So everyone got measured, all the bridesmaids have their dresses, Mother of the Bride ordered her dress and the brides dress is being made. So the only one that does not have anything to wear to the wedding is me! I know wah, wah, wah. The rest of my time has been attending DS #2, Lacrosse games. The season is over next week, and I am finally understanding the game a little bit. What a violent sport! Ofcourse DS loves it and plays goalie, so my palms are sweating every game. I hope everyone is doing well. I'm sorry that I don't really know what is going on here, but I think of you all so often. I will try to get back up to speed and keep up. Love, Besh

ah--david has a crew coming to help him break in his new home? that sounds absolutely perfect to me and i'm sure it will be a joyous occasion! i'm sure your dinner will be fabulous chase, but you're gonna have to depend on others to help you with that baking stuff, not i! no way, no how. but a little birdie told me that woodie is baking tomorrow! do you suppose that really could possibly be true? maybe she'll help you :) or i'm sure wizard and some of the others would! congratulations to susie and annie--i'm sure you'll welcome the newest members of your families with lots of warmth and happiness! and susie--can you fill us in on major greg? i know i'm not spending tons of time here recently but i think i'm missing something that i don't want to... happy vacation, deanna! i hope it works out just as you'd like it to and you have both fun and relaxing times! as so often happens, i've procrastinated too long. the packages that needed to be mailed all have arrived at their destinations but the holidays cards aren't done nor are the linens for the holiday table and i don't believe a single gift has been wrapped. wow. lots to do! i'm just happy the tree is decorated and shining brightly! it's the busiest time of the year for us and i've been doing some overtime and then a cold knocked me off my feet for a few days and of course, now ted has it...ah well. this too shall pass, right? in any case, i'm sure we'll both enjoy the holiday just fine. i hope you all get a chance to see those that you want to spend time with and be careful on the roads! we've had way more snow in decemember than is usual and the snow banks make it hard to see sometimes. enjoy your time!

First, let me say I love to read this thread each week. It's so nice to hear what everybody is up to.

Alexa, the garden tour sounds wonderful. Great way to spend a day looking at beautiful gardens and discussing plants.

And Linda and Lowspark, the girls activities sound good too. Planning a canoe trip - you'd think with the Chattahoochee right here there'd be someone doing something like that around here, but not.

I think we got everybody's Tuesday rain here today. It's supposed to go on thru most of the weekend. No plans except to stay in and paint.

For the first time this week the sun is out and the kids can go out and make a mess outside instead of all over the house, and I can try and get caught up. I also have several flats of flowers to put in. Did make rhubarb muffins this week but they are almost gone so may make another batch and cut up some rhubarb for the freezer.

You're a busy group with all your springtime activities.

Right now I am waiting for the contractor, to talk about the new bathroom. The planning has been going on for a year now. He's promising to start in June. Goodbye money.

Later is a trip to the salon. Tomorrow is the usual cleaning and gardening. Love one and hate the other.

Sunday is the Cocktail Party for my local library. It is always the best party of the year, held in some fabulous private home. I bought a new outfit and shoes. Today after the haircut, I have to stop to buy a few things for finishing touches. I can use these clothes for a wedding in July, too. Had a pedicure yesterday (I don't like the color I chose -- OPI Chihuahua Bites. It's too orange.)

No manicure because I would just destroy it in the yard.

Alex, the chocolate show sounds like heaven and the Kitchen Garden tour would help walk odd the calories....

Linda, those canoe trip every year great. Plan carefully, you must have the correct amount of beer, wine and vodka...

Beth, maybe you'll get lucky and have sunshine.

My plan for this weekend is to plant my flower beds. I've got the deck planters done and the beds are weeded. We put in a new shade garden last year that runs alongside the driveway for about 100 ft. and I bought more perennials for that. Altogether I have about 10 flats to get into the ground. We have had beautiful weather so I'm not complaining.

All of your activities sounds like everything I want to do this weekend. I'm especially envious of your remodeling job Pam. I love in house projects!

I haven't been participating much because life is getting in the way! LOL! We had a tornado that touched down on Monday so it looks like my weekend will consist of yard clean up. Soon this will all be a distant memory...electricity is fixed, spewing natural gas line is taken care of, phone is on, cable is working, roof leak is taken care of and tree removal is done! Now we are waiting to have 15 stumps grinded. After the storm I got in my car and my alternator went out...all you can do is laugh.

Oh, and new Grandbaby will be here next week! Yay!

I hope you all have a nice weekend. I miss you guys!

Pam, I missed you post. Good luck on the bathroom! We did that here last fall. I can understand the long planning. We did a doorless walkin shower and I love it. Great for bathing the dog too!

Karen.....Tornado touch down????? Yikes! Scarey!!!!! Glad you and your DH are safe. Didn't you just lose trees from a hurricane a few years ago? Sorry to hear this but I know that new Grandbaby will make it all better.
