I didn't want anyone to miss this important and sad message from Donna.

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to stop in and let you know I will be missing most of this week. My dad went into the hospital on Wednesday and passed away very peacefully Saturday morning. He was very, very sick and was not going to get any better so, even though we know it's a blessing as he was in pain and had great difficulty breathing, it's still hard to accept.

We are having a viewing and service Wednesday evening and, as he wished, he will be cremated. Probably some time in July when the tide is high and the summer sun hits the Atlantic so it looks like diamonds is when we will release his ashes at the location he requested.

My family and I so much appreciate all of your thoughts, prayers and support.

I will be back, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I love you all.

Oh Donna -I extend my deepest sympathies to you and your family. I sit here with tears in my eyes and hope you know how much we care.
Death is never easy, but watching someone you love in pain, is even harder.

May all your wonderful memories of the times you spent together get you through the next few days and months to come.

We will shed tears with you & listen. If you wanat advice we will give it. Otherwise, we are here for your needs. Please don't forget that. ((((((Donna))))))) may your fond memories bring you peace. My best to you and your family. How beautiful to think of spreading your father's ashes when the tide is high and the summer sun hits the Atlantic so it looks like diamonds! I love that idea.

((((((DONNA)))))) - How sorry I am to hear of your loss. I know how much your dad meant to you. Please remember those last few great days you had together and take comfort in knowing he is at peace and no longer suffering. I am so glad he got to see his friends the other day and was in good spirits. That is the memory you need to hold onto. Sending you love and peace.

Well, I just can't believe it. I dropped the 2 pounds that I had gained. I don't know how that happened - probably fluid. I'm feeling much better. Each day is an improvement but still need lots of rest it seems. I've got good movement in the arm now without it hurting and it isn't hurting to lie on that side now. I'm supposed to take the tapes off on Monday if they haven't come off themselves. There is no sign of them loosening. I'm dreading doing that. Wish someone else would, but I don't really have anyone to ask. Good luck wild chicken. You can do it. Letting others put you down is not a good thing to do. Putting others down is not good either. I have a sign on my desk that says " Don' take unfair advantage of any person and don't let any person take unfair advantage of you" I don't know where I found those words, but at the time they were meant for me. It knocks all the confidence out of oneself until you decide to take action. It appears you have reached that point. I'm sure that will motivate you. Just perseverve and you will lose that weight. Think how happy you will be!!! Please keep us updated. That helps, too. I know it helped me. All the best to eveyone.

Hello Ladies, Fate saved me from the butterfinger, the machine was only taking exact change and I only had 3 quarters, so was 5 cents off.. I had some dried apricots instead :) Let me say it was no easy feat getting back in here. They no longer take payments by mailing them in, so I had to deal with paypal. Last year I gave up on them. I forgot my password from an old account and my credit card changed and I didnt keep the old one.. so after tons of email back and forth with them I gave up. This time I just made a new email and tried to make a new account.. again I had all kinds of issues and it ended up that my cookie settings were too secure. So after the 10th try it finally went through.. all that for $15! but its over and done with. They also toned down the security here at work so I can reach the site again, that could change again soon but hopefully im not here at the hospital much longer. Ive been lurking though, and keeping up a bit with whats going on. Its good to see some new names and always good to see the ole timers (no pun intended!). For thoes who do not know me; I found the site when I started on the SS plan about 5 or 6 years ago. Im a guy :) 34, and live in southern NH, about 60 miles north of Boston. Ive been overweight since about the 7th grade, got down to a slim 170 pounds when I was in the army and ballooned up to 260 about 3 years after I got out and stayed there a few years. Thats about when I found this gem of a place and since then lost and have maintained 30 pounds. I never expect to get back down to 170, I wasnt very happy or comfortable that thin anyhow, but I would like to get back down to under 200. Low carb diets never did work well for me, I lost a whole 1 pound on the Atkins plan, and nothing on SS after over 2 months on each. The way I did loose weight was cutting out the junk food, fast food, and pre packaged crapola, and exercising! Last month my Dr dropped the bomb on me and told me im a diabetic type 2 and my blood pressure is on the high side, so now I have more reasons than vanity to drop some weight. Ive made some pretty decent lifestyle changes so far, cut out a lot of salt, made the computer at home off limits (mainly because I sit in front of one all night at work), stopped smoking, but still have a few to go. I need to exercise more and get off the night shift. The problem I seem to have is that I work overnights, so when I get out of work im beat. It also makes it harder to find people to do activities with as im sleeping or working when they are off. I also work every other weekend so that doesnt help. So thats my story and im sticking to it. Whats been new? well im waiting to hear on a new job. I will find out wed/thur. Its days and I would be managing a product line for a petroleum company. They pay is nice and its a 10 min walk from my place, and it would be great to go back to a normal 8-5 job and have my weekends off. Im keeping my fingers and toes crossed. Ive been datting on and off, some good some bad, but always interesting. Ive been seeing the current vicitm since last july. Weve been taking it fairly slow and really only have been serious about it for the last 4 or 5 months. I was working an odd schedule last fall and she was busy trying to sort out her health, so we would be lucky to see each other once a week. Thats gotten a little better. There is more to the story, but its long and complicated, perhaps another day :) To help us get more exercise we just bought kayaks. The budget was kinda tight so I ended up getting a recreational one that is good for flat water paddling on lakes and easy rivers. Its a Palmico 100, and I got a good deal on it over the web by getting it shipped to a local store where I can pick it up soon I hope! Its a plastic boat and only 10ft, but I was able to pick it up with all the gear for just under $500. I only have a 12 ft wall to store it on, so that kind of limited me as well. There is a huge lake about 5 miles from my house where I can plop it in and get some exercise and a nice view. Its our towns water supply so there are no large boats, swiming or jet skis allowed, so its nice and quiet and has lots of wild life, a good portion of it borders the Audobon societys preserve. I cant wait to get up there and paddle around in the mornings. We also plan to do some river and camping trips this summer. Well that about wraps it up, a small book too! Hi All, I have been away from you all for so long, I don't even know where to begin. This past weeks weather has been unbelievable. It seems that every part of the country has had their cross to bear and now this is ours. School was cancelled on Monday due to flooding and there are some towns around us that still have not gone back. Some of you may have seen Peabody, Mass on the news alot. That is the town right next to us. Those poor people really got hit hard. I live on a pond, so we were sweating it for a while, but fortunately it did not flood. We had some water in our basement, but had 2 sump pumps running and it did keep up with it. I feel very, very fortunate. Our problems were just a nuisance, there are families that can't even get back into their homes. Nothing like this has ever happened in this area. It is very surreal. Certain streets in Salem look like a war zone. The city has lined some of the streets with dumpsters so people can toss their stuff. Everything is full of mud and trash. It is so hard to believe that this is my town. And ..... Dunkin Donuts is still closed!! They were completetly flooded with rain water and sewerage. Nice huh? I think I'll be going to a different Dunkies for a while. LOL John those pictures were unbelievable. There are many areas here that look the same. My brother is a fire fighter in Pelham, NH and says everything there is a mess. Suzanne, I'm glad that you did not have to build an arc for your animals! My spare time has been consumed with finding a dress to wear to DS wedding in September. Who would have thought it would be this difficult. I am going to another bridal shop on Saturday. They are supposed to have the dress I've been searching for. I found it on line, but would like to actually see it in person before ordering. I hope this works out. It is not fun any more. I went with DS and the rest of the crew the other night to do the tuxes. My eyes welled up to see DS in his grooms clothes. He could be a model. So everyone got measured, all the bridesmaids have their dresses, Mother of the Bride ordered her dress and the brides dress is being made. So the only one that does not have anything to wear to the wedding is me! I know wah, wah, wah. The rest of my time has been attending DS #2, Lacrosse games. The season is over next week, and I am finally understanding the game a little bit. What a violent sport! Ofcourse DS loves it and plays goalie, so my palms are sweating every game. PULLED PORK 1 Pork Butt Roast (I cut into large cubes and defat as much as I can before cooking.) Rub down with your favorite spices. I use: Â½ T salt, 1 T paprika, 1 t. dry mustard, Â¼ t. ginger, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder and pepper to taste. (I put the cubes in a zip-loc bag, add the spices and shake.) Cook overnight in crock-pot. In the morning when it is still warm, you can shred with a knife and fork. The meat is so tender, the fat and bones just fall away. Mix with BBQ sauce of your choice. Here is an alternate rub, that can be made in quantity and used several times. Barbecue Rub: 1 cup chili powder 3 tablespoons paprika 3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh thyme (or 1 teaspoon dried) 2 tablespoons sea salt 2 tablespoons garlic powder 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper 2 tablespoons ground cumin 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Place all ingredients in a large bowl, whisk to combine. Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Makes 2 cups. NHSuzanne - I make my own BBQ sauce, but when in a pinch, I will use store bought. Can't remember what kind I buy, since I usually just make it. I do usually use the Pork Butt, but last time I went to Costco and bought a rolled roast and used that. I didn't have time to fool with defatting the pork butt and I was making large quantities for company. Some fat is good for flavor, but the health conscious part of me, just can't leave all that fat on the meat. I am making zucchini brownies to take camping (they put me in charge of dessert) and a banana cake. The brownies are in the oven and I am off to mix up the cake. I figured I got a vegetable and a fruit covered in the desserts! LOL Hope everyone has a great weekend. Marci

Back again.

Patti - I am originally from Ohio and moved to FL 6 yrs ago and was ready to leave afte two yrs. Our first choice would be TN to move to. So we would be considered Half-backs LOL! My DH cannot handle major snow so going back to OH is out of the question. We started walking about 6 weeks ago and we go in the evening anytime after 7:00 pm. I agree that it is too hot and humid and some nights it has been tough, but lately we have had a great breeze. It would be impossible to do it this summer, but we will be in Ohio so we will be able to continue walking.

Marci - I too was a Gilmour Girl fan and was not real pleased with the last show. Just was not satisfying for me. I will miss it. Maybe there will be GG movie in our future. I would absolutely love to live in a town like stars hollow. What a hoot!

Suzanne - ((Hugs)) to you and Sweet Pea...hope you are still mending nicely.

Marci/Lynn - I didn't see the last episode of GG yet. I actually enjoyed the previous 2 episodes, but what really bothered me was the season that mom and daughter were estranged - that just wasn't believable. Then Lorali had to go off and marry Christopher. I think they may have had a change in writers or something.

Lynn - I only heard of "half-backs" a few years ago. I love that term.

I can only imagine how sad you feel right now. Please remember how blessed your dad was to have such an attentive daughter who loved him so much. I'm sure his peaceful passing was something that you all wished for...I can relate to what your family has experienced and pray that you can all celebrate his life by living out all the good he passed on to you.

It's a lovely day here in NH. It poured here all weekend and was an absolute deluge for my friends outdoor wedding plans. We moved it all inside and had a nice time in spite of the weather! She is now an official member of the MOB (married old bag!) with Nag of course!

I'm here Suzanne.

Just feeling sad for Donna today. Awoke this morning thinking that I know firsthand what an awful day she has ahead of her. Thoughts are with her family.

Not much new here. I have a cooking class this evening in a nice, upscale store in town. We are going to learn to turn some recipes into heart-healthy dishes. It's 3 hours and just some "me" time. I promise to share the recipes if they are good (or if not!)

Marci, is Stephanie Plum's new adventure due next month? I need some uplifting stuff to read (and the time to read it) lol!

Tally Ho Suzanne - I have not run off to London. It is a beautiful day here and I can't wait to get out of work and play a little.

I have been busy with a landscaper for ideas on what I can do with my front yard. It is pretty much in a natural state right now with lots of trees, but also weeds, that we keep mowing down LOL. DH would love a nice manicured lawn - I prefer more of a natural setting - I think we have come up with a good compromise - I am just hoping we don't have to sell the house to pay him.

Dee - I wanna go with you! That sounds like so much fun. I was thinking of you this past weekend, knowing you were involved in a chore you didn't want.

Hello from London! (I wish!)

DeeMarie - June 19th is when her new book, Lean Mean Thirteen comes out. I got 2 B&N GCs from my students, so I will be first in line to get it. I had previously pre-ordered it, but they were holding the rest of my order until June, so I canceled it and ordered something else. Now I am Ready, Willing and Able to start my summer reading.

(((DONNA))) - Sending much love and many prayers your way.

I have one more graduation to get through tonight, and I only say "get through" because of the way I feel. I finally broke down and made a doctor's appt. for tomorrow. This cough just won't go away and now I have a sinus headache to go along with the cough. Hopefully I will feel better by the weekend.

NHSuzanne - How are you feeling? How are the chicks coming along?

Raeanne - My DH has this habit of planting trees and then chopping them down when he thinks they are too big, the roots too close to the house or whatever. I came home from work one day this spring and he had chopped down 4 large pine trees that we had planted when we moved in in 1979. He also dinged the house while cutting them down, so I was not happy with him that day. Granted they were getting too tall and spindly, but they hid the neighbor's house from view and believe me when I say that was a good thing. Good luck with your landscaper.

Good morning all,

I thought I would share a little bit of the fox fest we have been having at my house! I can never seem to get all four kits in the picture but this gives you an idea of how cute these guys are. Mom is very attentive and they just romp and play constantly.

The last picture shows all four. Mom has just come back with some tasty treat and they are all enjoying what ever the poor critter was!

Suzanne, that is not the same picture I could have taken this morning as the %&(%@() chipmunks tore apart my flower boxes. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Raeanne, my class rocked last night. This chef made a creamy (very low fat) pesto to die for. I've made a PDF file of the recipes and will try to send to you.

Need to go and get some work finished today.

QOD: What's up for the weekend?

I'm taking off here at 2pm and heading out to run errands....groceries, garden center, maybe a shoe store later. Tomorrow it's yard work followed by dinner with my in-laws. Sunday we have no plans except to work in the house. Monday evening we hope to attend a local baseball game which will be followed by a fireworks display.

Dee - Thanks, I would love to have those recipes. I am out of here at 1 and it can't come quick enough for me. Suzanne beat us all, she is out of her office at noon LOL.

QOD - I feel like my weekend started yesterday. DD#2 came home, we went out on the boat and had lunch, we then had dinner out and just as it ended there was an unexpected fireworks display that we caught, afterwards a quick ride on the swings in the park - made me feel like a kid again. We may go for a helicopter ride this afternoon, tomorrow my brother, his wife and 3 kids will be arriving for the rest of the weekend, Monday is a town parade. I need to sneak some cleaning and cooking in there somewhere.

I'm back....thank you all so much for the good thoughts and hugs, I felt each and every one of them! This has been a tough week but luckily the weather has held up for us. My dad's funeral was jam packed, he would have loved it :=)

After all of the errands this week and this morning at the surrogate's office and then the financial planner's office, treated myself to a manicure and pedicure. My mom, sister and I are going to an early dinner tonight and then come home and, hopefully, chill.

QOD: Try and get some form of normalcy back in my life. Tons of laundry, need to buy and plant my flowers and want to visit the pool this weekend.

I will be checking in and posting pretty regularly again.

Thanks for being there!!!!
