It is a beautiful day to-day and I'm so pleased. This is a holiday in Canada and last week they were predicting a rainy week-end for our area. It is beautiful sunshine and about 27 degrees Celcius at least.

Hi again! Wodka - I'm no angel by a long shot. I am using my Weight Watchers to guide me. My winter tune-up has a lot to do with mentally taking better care of myself. It's too easy to beat ourselves up - which I can do when I'm not taking care. And for me it is a daily effort to pay attention to what I am eating that creates a balanced diet. I totally get the not being hungry at times - especially when stressed. You have a lot on your plate to deal with. Giving as much as you do to support your husband takes a lot of energy which is why paying attention to trying to eat on some sort of regular pattern is very important right now. You need to pay attention Wodka to yourself too. Keep your strength up. I trip and fall all over the place on my journey. My help with WW is facing the truth and keeping a journal of my foods. Some days are great, some not too good. It's the overall picture every week I strive for. We all need a piece of cake, cookie (sorry Simon) and some comfort. I'm just trying to pay more attention to portion sizes. And I use lunch plates for dinner because it's more what my Mom used to serve and she kept her weight all her life. Granted she loved and ate many vegetables in her meals. So Hang In There Wodka. Even if one meal a day you can incorporate something for Wodka from your daily goals, I think right now that would be great. You have come such a long, long way from your first post here. I was so happy to see you still here after my coming and going over the last couple of years. Don't ever beat yourself up and just keep putting one foot in front of the other. You have been amazing on your journey. I'm so pleased to hear Bob's care can come closer to home. It will be of more comfort for Bob not to travel so much as well as for you. I continue to send positive energy, prayers to you and Bob. Hang in there Wodka. I'm so glad you are here. Hi Raeanne. I have not done SS but many folk have had lots of success with her diet. Suzanne is a wonderful lady. She is inspirational in so many ways. I remember years ago she published a book of poems. Her tenderness and intimate thoughts came out. Her beauty comes from within more than what we see on covers. I believe you too will have success with her positive energy coaching you along the way. Dee you are wise to stay home. Too many folk go to work when a few days of rest would get them on the road to recovery so much better. Years ago while serving in the military we had to report on 'sick parade' - medical clinic - where the doctors would decide if you went to work or went home. I hated that. There were so many times I should have been home in bed. Forget the fact I had to bus halfway across town to get to the clinic with a fever, or flu, infecting everything I touched and people I sat next too. Not funny at all. Hi All! First off, Maddie, you have been in my thoughts and prayers since I heard about your Dad. How are you doing there, girlfriend? And the family? ((( HUGS))) Suzanne, You and Sweet Pea! I hope that she is soon well and STAYS well! I know how hard it is when a loved one (2 or 4 footed) is ailing. Patti, I want to hear about your painting class! Have you ever done anything like this before? I'm also waiting to hear what the doc says. Hi to Dave : ) Lynn, those instructions for Crazy Train were as clear as mud to me LOL! KY Susie, sending good thoughts your sister's way...Nice to "meet you"! I have been MIA most of the week. My Dear friend Gael's Dad passed away on Wednesday. We have been friends since we were kids and of course, this is a difficult time for her ( Maddie, it has to be very much the same for you). I have had a HORRIBLE dieting week. (don't ask). Thanks to everybody, Bj, Raeanne, for you heartwarming thoughts. We got through this week ok, the first anniversary of Bill's death. I thought it would be harder than it was. I guess it was a blessing to be so preoccupied with other peoples problems...hard to feel too sorry for me!! Raeanne, I am so glad that you still like your box of goodies! How does that little water fountain work? Have you listened to those cds yet? HA HA!! I have the match to your black "worry stone" out in my garden and I think of you whenever I see it. DeeMarie, my daughter wants to know if you could make HER a Sopranos ornament!! I used the Greek seasoning in an eggplant/onion with Evoo casserole last night. Yumm! I love my Nora Jones CD. Very relaxing. Thanks again My computer froze up completely at the first of the week and had to be COMPLETELY rebuilt!! Okay, Raeanne... help me keep track here... 1) 1 week before Christmas the fridge breaks down. 2) next day the washer goes out and I replace them both. 3) 4 days before Christmas NEW fridge goes on the blink. Repairman fixes problem. 4) Christmas eve. the toaster oven goes to the great oven home center in the sky. 5) Jan 4th the dryer breaks down ( had it fixed) 6) Jan 11th favorite crock pot catches on fire ( short at the cord) 7) Last Monday, computer goes bye-bye.. Is it just ME or do any of you see a pattern here??? LOL!! Tomorrow it is back on the diet wagon.I have the menu planned as well as the exercise penciled in. Here's to all of us going through difficult times, those who are hurting and those of us who are just plain tired. Everything is easier with friends. I am thankful for you all. Sweet Dreams.... Hi guys! Good to see everyone checking in! Patti~ Congrats on the grandbabies! Hope you get to hold them soon. How are your relatives in Texas doing? Are they okay with the weather and all? Amy~ Well, I'm glad you hung in there with your friend. I bet you were the voice of peace and reason for him and helped him through his rough times. LOVE the photos! Absolutely serene and beautiful. I can imagine NHSuzanne and SP riding through the wooded trails! NHSuzanne~ You little brat! You're making me really envy you with all these end of the summer trips and time outs with friends. JK! Have a great time and bring your foot warmers!!!!!! Raeanne~ Shame on you for falling asleep! Morgan the magician's assistant went this time! In her family moment (brought to the viewers by Febreze fabric softner), her mother said there was a spa appointment waiting for her. She'll probably get a LOT of ribbing for THAT one! Anyway, I was glad to see her go instead of our fish monger from Washington! :) DeeMarie! Jam packed weekend, I see! Make healthy choices! In answer to the QOD: Friday: Went to donate blood, but hematocrit was too low - under 35. So I'll try again in a week. Then went to a furniture consignment shop and picked up a cool perfectly round mirror, cast iron 6' tall candle stand, and a cool red shallow bowl. Now it's paperwork at the title company, grocery shopping, and working on a new design. After school, I am taking the girls to Corpse Bride, the new Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie. I can't wait. Then I might throw a steak and some spinach on the BBQ to give my red blood cells a boost. Saturday: Gotta get party junk for the my DD's party next weekend, so I'm going to Archie McPhee's, the cheap magic store. The kids love it and I do too. Tomorrow night, it's my company yearly Holiday party. WAY too busy where I work between Thanksgiving and New Year's, so they do the party in September. Just remembered! Gotta pick up my dresses from the cleaners! YIKES! The company is hiring a hypnotist, so it ought to be a gas. Sunday: YARD! YARD! YARD! LAUNDRY! LAUNDRY! LAUNDRY! I have to get my yard completely weeded b4 winter rain comes and get bark sprayed to keep the springtime weeds down! I might even get a burst of energy and work on the garage a little. It needs it---badly! Check in people! We wanna hear from you! MARCI! Have your little ones handcuffed you and held you captive? BESH! TGIF.....and I REALLY mean that! I got home from the GENESIS concert at 1:30am, and the alarm went off at 5:15am as usual. I am exhausted from the Tuesday charity event where I got to bed at 1am. Too much late night for me. Phil Collins wanted all the "old people" to shout last night...he had about 50,000 of us screaming. Too funny! QOD: Nothing but chores so far. Tonight DBIL is coming over for dinner (and to help DH with our master bath which is still not completed). I plan on crying a bit more over my beloved METS who are falling apart. Tomorrow I hope to get the scarecrows and such out on the lawns and get to the garden center for a few mums and pumpkins so that we can finished decorating the outside of the house for fall; inside is completed. Sunday we will chill in front of the TV to watch the JETS, and in between I will get some more cooking finished for the week. OK, gotta run to the grocery. I took this afternoon off as vacation. After some errands I'm going to take a nap! Make today count! Check in DeeMarie PS: I was invited to join a committee here at work for our holiday party. It will be attended by 40o people and they want an "80's prom" theme. I remember the 80's well but was older than my teens (ahem!!!). Any suggestions welcome. Not sure many people will dress up, but giveaways and such that people could put on might be an idea. It will be held in a huge hotel (Hilton or similar). Thx!

Happy MONDAY!

Only checking in briefly; life is still hectic, but in a good way. The wedding is so close! My dress(s) fit nicely after alterations, bought a bra that actually fits with the neckline(s), my friend made me a great necklace, I'll have my pedi in place: DH has his Perry Ellis white linen slacks hemmed, and we are almost all set for a (barefoot) wedding ceremony on the beach in Punta Cana next week!

Hope all is well with everyone. I need to catch up!

Dee - which resort in Punta Cana is the wedding at? We went to Melia Caribe Tropical twice and they have the most gorgeous weddings there. How exciting!

Suzanne - that is the most precious video. I wish that was my backyard. Was it you that had a problem with tomato blight last year? Are you planting them again this year? I am just doing tomato, peppers, eggplant, shallots, garlic and herbs this year and considering asparagus but not sure I want to make the garden bigger this year.

Tikanis - what are you growing these days?

Ivamae - hope the good weather continues for you.

Maddie - thanks for getting us chickens started.

Dee, this sounds like quite the fun wedding. Planning is half the fun!

Ivamae, I hope your nice weather holds up for you. Are you feeling better this week, I hope?

Raeanne, I have tomatoes (4 varieties), peppers (3 varieties) Black Beauty eggplant, garlic, shallots, green onion, some lettuces, herbs, patty pan squash, zuchinni and pumpkins. Next year I hope to build raised beds, but time just got away from me this year!

Please let us know well in advance the dates for the next Girl friend's getaway. Suzanne and I might just show up. for certain I will be in NY this fall. I will let you know the dates soon.

Suzanne, when do you leave? Please take pictures along the way so that I can vacation vicariously! lol! I bet you'll have a blast!! It's been a long time since I've ridden on the back of a big bike!

Tonight is the night of the concert. If you missed it, my kids are taking me to see Crosby, Stills & Nash BY KAYAK!! in San Diego for my Mother's Day gift. I can hardly wait!!

Tomorrow, my sister graduates with her MSW and Saturday night is her big party. What a fun week. Might have to squeeze some work in there somewhere too!

Good Wednesday all,

I got the nicest surprise package in the mail from Tikanis! A book by Monty Roberts (the original horse whisperer) Thank you so much for such a thoughtful gift. I know Monty Roberts well as I attended many of his demos while working for the equine magazine. I have never read his book and although I feel like I know him well I know I am going to learn lots more. With so many natural horse trainers now I don't think that Monty gets the acclaim he deserves. What a nice surprise.

Raeanne and Tikanis, I have several raised beds which are a real labor saver. I planted 12 varieties of tomatoes and 60 plants. I will plant 14 in my own beds and give the rest of the plants away. Next year I must show some constraint! I have an asparagus bed, a garlic bed, and I planted green beans, zucchini, summer squash, basil, beets and carrots in the rest. That more than enough to feed us all summer and make my famous zucchini relish for gifts. I have my raised beds out in the back pasture so that when I am gardening I can have the donkeys, horses, and goats all around. It's lovely. I do have it fenced off to keep the goats at bay. LOL

I am serious about going to Raeanne's weekend next year. Tikanis you should make the plan too. That would be a blast!

Tikanis what a fun night you are going to have! I love CSN and Y too.

Dee, have a great time at the wedding. How can you not?

We are leaving tomorrow morning on our journey to Washington, DC. I will take pictures and share when I come back. Should be a really moving and powerful weekend.

My goodness, everyone has got exciting news lately! Graduations, trips, get togethers--what fun! :)

Our garden is going great balls of fire this year. (OH, gad! Did I just jinx us?!) We planted (from seed, mind you): KY Wonder beans, Blue Lake beans, Dragon Tongue beans, Sugar Snaps Peas, shelling peas, tomatillos, Amish Paste tomatoes, Brandywine tomatoes, Early Girl tomatoes, Better Boy tomatoes, San Marzano tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, Delicious tomatoes, okra, Fairy Tale eggplant, Dusky eggplant, Poblano peppers, Anaheim chili peppers, Lipstick pimento peppers, bell peppers, habanero peppers, cayenne peppers, jalapeno peppers, Tabasco peppers, hot banana peppers, paprika peppers, ghost peppers, cilantro, chives, oregano, thyme, dill, stevia, parsley,catnip, sage, basil, lavender, rosemary, chard, radishes, bak choi, several lettuces, mustard greens, kale, kohl rabi, mesclun, spinach, yellow squash, zucchini, cukes, cantaloupe, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, and pumpkins. In raised beds. Not to mention the patio blueberry bushes, along with the honeyberry bushes. Oh, and we have a garlic bed, too. We also started a bunch of flowers from seeds this year, too, but I can't remember them right off the bat. I do know that the TX Bluebonnets got up about 3 inches, and the birds or a squirrel ate 'em. We do the "Square-FootÂ¨ gardening system, and it works very well. I'll see if I can figure out how to post a pic.

Other than that, things are chaotic, as usual. I have been trying to get some information re: insurance policies that belong to my heart adopted mom, and the insurance company keeps sending up roadblocks. Now, they want some sort of affidavit from the original attorney that did my POA in '04 saying that I'm still the POA. WTH? Seriously? The atty bills at $250/hour; she doesn't have it, and neither do I. I don't know what to do. I am sooooo fed up with this. I've fought for 13 months now, and I.am.tired. I have spent hundreds of hours, and countless miles on my cars to help someone that doesn't have anyone but me, and this is what I get. No good deed goes unpunished. Remember that, y'all; its good words to live by. :)

Suzanne, I loved the video. I swear, I was sitting at my desk, and had just started watching it when my big girl jumped up, and snuggled between my folded arm, put her head on my forearm, and watched it with me, purring. When it was over, she got up, and moved over to the other side of the desk.

Maddie, I started Amish Paste and Brandywine OTV myself this year too. I have a myriad of other varieties and must show some semblance of restraint next year!

Hope everyone has a nice long weekend! Be safe. Think of us down in DC with Rolling Thunder! I think it's going to be heavy but good.

Maddie - you put my puny garden to shame - I am amazed! Hope you get that legal mess straightened out.

Tikanis - we need an update on CSN by KAYAK!!! How awesome.

Suzanne - I can just picture you in the garden surrounded by all your animals. I would be thrilled to have you and Tikanis join me next year! What a blast we would have.

Hello and Happy THURSDAY!

Looks like some of you are going to enjoy the Fall in New York State; you are in for a treat. Let me know when and where and I'll try to sneak up for quick visit.

Work is so hectic; they have changed over 90% of the systems we use and nothing resembles anything! Literally making us do the jobs that A/P, HR, and IT used to do. Everything is centralized with 800 numbers (calling India, of course), so there is no help. Can you imagine? I had an HR issue with one of my reports. I had to call an 800 number and after speaking with 2 people, they put in an HR Help Desk ticket in my name. Took me 48 hours to get the answer. If I had enough $$$, I would retire at this point, but.......

OK, hope everyone has a lovely weekend. My impatients are looking lovely in the back; the front flowers have not yet bloomed, but they will. This weekend, I hope to plant my herbs and some veggies; then DH will build something to keep the critters out of my herbs and veggies.

For all you animal admirers, our 4 little fish in our pond are well, thank you! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Maddie, I am sorry to hear about this new mess with your Heart Mom. There are ways around these things, though. We should talk...

That is quite the garden you have there! Wow! I miss having the space to grow so much. I have always used the square foot method, too, and little by little I am making raised beds for the grow space that I have in order to use it more efficiently.

Suzanne, I hope you have a BLAST on that bike trip! Can't wait for the photos! I am so glad that you like the book! I thought of you immediately when I saw that book again. I love Monty Roberts, and you are so right about him He started a local program here to help disabled/autistic kids with "horse therapy". This program just received a very large renewal grant from the state and is highly acclaimed.

My sister graduated yesterday with her MSW. Hurray!! What a great day it was! There's a big party at her house Saturday night to celebrate. We all went out to dinner after the grad ceremony and i am dragging a bit today..

The CSN concert was absolutely AWESOME!! We paddled in at sunset, about 75 boats on the water. The venue is open to the house on one side and open to the water on the other. 2 1/2 hours of GREAT music on a beautiful late spring night. Outside of plaster of paris hand prints and the first mother's day cards in crayon, this was the BEST mother's day gift ever! : )

Raeanne, Suzanne and I are SERIOUS about the next girlfriend's get away. Can you just imagine the trouble we could get into TOGETHER???

I had better get some work done here!!
