On my Gaggenau cooktop, if one burner goes out, the entire cooktop shuts down and the little indicator lights blink. In order to reignite the burners, it's necessary to turn all the burners off, wait for about 20 seconds for its "brain" to reset, then you can turn burners back on. As for all the igniters snapping, the Gaggenau is a bit of a hybrid. If no burners are on and you go to ignite one, all the igniters snap. Once a single burner is on, then when igniting subsequent burners, only the selected burner snaps. Not sure why, but the owners manual says that's how it's supposed to work. The big disadvantage to having gas sensing burners is that if the electric power goes off, the cooktop cannot be used because electricity is required to open the valves. Ordinary non-gas sensing burners can simply be ignited with a match.

A few years ago there were supposedly bad ignitors used by a number of brands of high end ranges - to the best of my knowledge they were replaced by the manufacturers and now a different, better kind are in use. In my case on my DCS range, the ignitors would continue to click after the burners were lit. Since the ingnitors were replaced I haven't had the problem. The repair person explained to me that the old ones weren't the correct height and didn't always detect when the flame was actually on. I remember reading that Bluestars may have had a different problem with the ignitors spontaneously clicking even when the range was turned off - you can check the Bluestar threads to see how that was resolved. I agree with the previous poster - if your problem is just with the ignitors and I would start with getting them replaced rather than trying to rebuild the whole cooktop unless you have other problems.

Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this... Happened twice in the past few days. I was sitting in the kitchen all of the sudden I hear the igniter clicking and see the green light come on and the flames begin to come out from underneath the griddle. It turned out completely by itself and thankfully I was there to catch it but really worried now for our safety at home! Had a technician come out who said that its one thing and Capital service guy is saying that the problem is something else and refers to a completely different part! I'm worried that this will not be fixed properly and can happen and start a fire anytime! Can anyone offer any advice/tips/help?! Thanks!

Is this because it's an open burner? DH wants the 30" Bluestar Platinum range in our next home so I've been checking all the GW threads on Bluestar. My Dacor rangetop (natural gas) doesn't do that. And the GE propane cooktop at my vacation home doesn't do it either. These are both sealed burners.
