The Frigidaire FPID/FGID and Electrolux EI24ID/EW24ID (including the 50QS) are brand new and seem to be a redesign from the ground up. Electrolux did not have a great reputation for dishwashers in the past; owners complained of poor washability and reliability. However, it's very possible this new line is great and exactly what they needed. You certainly won't find any user reviews at this point, though. If you buy one, let us know what you think! The only real "proven" dishwashers on the market right now are Maytag and the Euro manufacturers Bosch, Miele, and Asko. Although Maytag is a Whirlpool brand, they still use the previous generation Point Voyager tall tub wash system that works well. Whirlpool has transitioned the rest of their brands including KA to the "Global Wash System" which supposedly is quieter and uses less water but is unproven. GE and Electrolux/Frigidaire just introduced complete redesigns, presumably because their previous offerings weren't so great. Those are also unproven.

Wow... I guess the people from Bosch must closely monitor this site!! Not long after I mention new products on their website, (dryers), they went ahead and change them back. I also mentioned on a deferent thread about a second website that showed all the new products and they locked that site from the public, you now need a username... But looser I agree it's ok to buy something that will be discontinued but then you would be better off to wait because: #1, they will probably have a LARGE price break and #2, parts may be available, but down the road it will always be harder to get parts for a discontinued product vs. a current product. I work for a color printer company and when a product becomes discontinued it becomes a fire sale with all the dealers. Support also becomes more difficult. And forget about getting any updates or improved parts, the new focus will be on the current and next model. The 700 series would concern me the most since itÂs only been out for about a year or so. It doesn't make sense to discontinue such a new model. About the water usage, I saw a difference but I thought it was minimal. I am unable to look at more data since they pulled them from the two websites. Looser, Did you know where you can still get more info on them? I decided against the 800 series due to it being "white and silver" that just doesn't sound right. So the 500 plus will be the one for me and I plan on getting pedestals even though there are a lot of threads saying they cause vibrations. I'm sure a place like Loews or Pacific Sales will return them if that is the case. Pacific Sales is returning an oven that ended up being too big for me with a full refund. Even with an open box and not to mention it's been it my garage for a year waiting for the kitchen to be done. I was pleasantly shocked when they told me that they will return it.

Yes, Mike, I am sure. The mechanical design, and the wash action, is quite between the Calypso and Oasis. The Calypso never fills with water to submerge the clothes. The single pump runs continually through the wash period to shower water over the clothes while the wash plate wobbles or the basket spins at 60 RPM. Recirculation also occurs during most of the rinse sequences. The clothes are dripping-wet if the cycle is paused, but no water is seen in the tub, it's all below the wash plate. The single pump reverses for drain. The mechanism is belt-driven. The main drive motor is a variable speed single-phase AC induction motor. A u-joint allows the wash plate to wobble when the motor runs in one direction, then levels/centers the plate for spin when the motor reverses. The spin basket has a brake like Whirlpool's transmission-drive toploaders. There are both agitator and wash plate models in the Oasis/Cabrio/Bravos line. The wash plate models do fill with water, although to a low level. The wash plate does not wobble, it oscillates back and both like a "normal" agitator (thus, the agitator models simply replace the wash plate with an agitator without requiring any change to the drive mechanism). No u-joint is involved. The drive mechanism has no belt, it's essentially identical to Fisher & Paykel's SmartDrive toploaders. The SmartDrive motor is a 3-phase brushless DC motor with a rotor positional sensor for precise speed and rotational control. There are two separate pumps, one for drain and one for recirculate. The recirculation pump runs only at certain times during the cycle, not continuously. The spin basket does not have a mechanical brake. It floats up slightly on the drive shaft by air buoyancy when the tub fills with water to disengage from the drive shaft so the wash plate (or agitator) can oscillate separately, then settles back onto the drive for spin when the water drains out. The Calypso basket doesn't float.

Hello all. I just wanted to provide you all with an update of my Bosch Platinum Dryer noise experience. As I had previously mentioned, a second Bosch repairman had inspected my dryer due to the dryer noise complaint. Unlike the first inspection, the second inspection revealed that a new motor and blower were needed. I mentioned to the technician what "bsh_chris" had suggested the problem might be (flat rollers or a raised seam on the drum), however, the technician dismissed the suggestion. So parts were ordered and another appointment date was set. When the parts arrived, I met with a third Bosch technician. I explained once again that the dryer would make a thumping sound when it was in operation. After hearing the noise, he dissassembled and inspected the dryer. The technician determined that the motor and blower were fine afterall. However, I was now informed that the dryer rollers were bad (just like "bsh_chris" suggested). So, new rollers were ordered and yet another service appointment was set. When the fourth technician arrived with the rollers a few weeks later, the parts were installed and that seemed to correct the thumping problem I've had with the dryer from the time I had purchase it (July, 2006). The dryer has been working fine for 1 month at this point and the washer has been working fine all along. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll now have no more problems.
