Pls help: Toe kick register vents

Hi,

We are remodeling our kitchen and would like to remove the register currently in the floor and move it to the ceiling as the adjoining family room has the vents in the ceiling. However, the company that gave us the quote suggested that we have a cabinet toe kick register instead because of concerns of the amount of air that would get distributed between the kitchen and the family room. Looks like installing the toe kick vents is the easiest thing to do as well. Are there any cons in having toe kick registers?

Would appreciate any comments or suggestions? We got a quote from one more company and they were ok with moving the register to the ceiling. So, not sure which is the right thing to do. Thanks in advance!!!

Going from the floor to the ceiling may involve a lot of ducting and concerns over getting the proper cfm to the register.
I would listen to the advice and install the kick plate register. If anything there would be less problems this way as debris wouldn't fall into the duct as easily.

We have two of them in the master bath. They were there when we bought the house and I'm not sure why the previous owner chose toe kick heating instead of a conventional vent. I hate them. They're very noisy. That could be amplified by the marble but I wouldn't ever choose them unless there wasn't an alternative. I don't think I'd mount them halfway up a wall either (if I'm understanding what you're proposing). You'd be standing right in front of direct heat. Are you sure that's what you want? Sorry if it's not what you want to hear but I'd want to know what I had to consider before I made a decision like that.

You can order them unfinished from www.signaturehardware.com. You can even choose the wood species. That's what we did, and then we painted them to match. I also bought some for the floor and stained them to match. Hope this helps!

They'll figure out it's a mistake when they go to put the appliances in. DW's sit on the floor and should not have a vent located under them.

Yeah, we have one and it just holds the shallow roasting pans that used to be under the broiler in our old range (now we have two ovens, so no drawer there). It's barely worth including, let alone rearranging important stuff for!
