When to start kitchen renovations in a new house?

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking for a while now and found so much helpful information already. My family and I are moving to our "forever" house in March, and one of the big projects is to completely redo the kitchen. We'll be opening up one wall into the family room in addition to updating the kitchen.

My dilemna: my husband thinks we should move in, unpack, live in the space for a little bit and see how we use the kitchen. While I see his point, I feel like I'm comfortable enough in knowing how I want my kitchen laid out to start renos right away. I just think it'll be twice as much work to move in, settle in, then pack everything up and settle in again.

For people who moved into new homes--did you find that it was helpful to live in the space for a while? If you didn't wait, do you wish you did?

Thanks! I'll be posting a lot more around here!
