granite backsplash - bringing outlets out flush
Comments (2)I needed to bring my outlets out farther for my backsplash. I bought some extra long screws at home depot. But....you need to do something else too. If you JUST use long screws and then attach the outlet cover to the outlet, when you put pressure on the outlet while plugging something in, the screw hole in the cover will probably snap. So what I did was got a piece of CVPC supply line. It's the line that goes from the valves to the faucets or toilets. Really small diameter...maybe 1/2" or so. I cut little pieces of this to use as a spacer for the screw. It slips over the screw and holds the outlet at the correct distance from the box so no strain will be put on the cover....See More? Comments (7)Mustangs, still waiting for the cabs to arrive, should take about another 4 weeks. Plus, we have to have the kitchen/dining room tile replaced. So, it will be a while before the countertops/backsplash are installed. Re. thickness, we picked Zodiaq (quartz) counters and 3 cm's are the standard thickness, the kitchen guy told me when I called earlier. So no choice in our case. Macy, thanks for the extender info, it sounds a lot simpler than I thought it would be....See MoreFull granite backsplash? To have or not?
Comments (38)We also have a wine cellar Crystal so I tend to stand and look at the view and drink wine :oP That's the cartoon version of our view, but if you look at the pic with the stove, on the right is the side of that window and you can see it's pretty much the same view. We're about three stories up above the lake, but the house is right on the lake (it's a five level townhouse). We have that view from two sides of the place. That view is really how I got myself into this remodel mess LOL The place was a vintage cheap 1980's townhouse...and I'm turning it into something else I hope..just because of that stupid view we HAD to have! So this thread now comes into play as we continue...I'm thinking of doing a full marble backsplash in the bathroom after seeing a couple of them here. Some of the lovely curved transitions from short backsplash to high are pretty fabulous....See MoreBacksplash before Electrical Finish?
Comments (5)Thanks for your responses - it really helped me to feel better! Our range and hood have been installed (my husband had to build the wooden support into the range hood cabinet before the actual insert could be installed - another issue by our cabinet manufacturer). I guess our GC wants the electrician to be sure our outlets and switches are the correct depth for the backsplash tile. Its been such a long and painful process i just want to cook on my range and wash dishes in my dishwasher! Not much of anything has gone smoothly. I'm glad I am the one who goes to the office everyday while retired husband deals with the agony of the remodel! Gahhhhh! This should bring a laugh - I went to install one of the Never MT's and turned on the water to the sink - the new plumbing has a leak in it!!!! There was a nice puddle of water under the sink. I broke out laughing and my husband is just boiling! So I abandoned the Never MT install for another day... I forgot to mention - I do love our kitchen designer who happens to be a neighbor! She's been great! Thanks for listening! If it ever gets finished I'll post pictures. Marsha...See Moreloves2cook4six
