I love blowing bubbles. I wish they would last longer.
I would love to do that experiment with the kids but I could not ever be where it gets that cold!!!!!

So glad you liked the experiment and coloredthumb sure you can send the pics along to your friend. I really hope it will be cold enough when my grandson visits next week and we can do it again. It was pretty cool to watch it happen.

Who says "your only a kid once". LOL! Looks like fun. I'm glad I live where you can't freeze a bubble though.

Oh, that is cool! Thank you for sharing. I'll show my kids your pics. How cold does it have to be, I wonder. It's going back down to the 20s here in a couple days, so below freezing, but certainly not as cold as where you are, with all that snow.

Very cool! I work at a before/afterschool daycare. We're always trying to find fun things for the kids to do. Here in Ontario we still have a few more months of freezing weather to look forward to, lol. So I think I will make up a few batches of soap solution with various food colourings added, so they can have fun watching different coloured bubbles float and freeze. Thanks for the great idea!

That's wonderful. Now my 25 year old daughter is determined to make a wand and try it out herself. It's only 20 degrees so it should work.

I am in New Brunswick, Canada. Right now our temp is about -19C but I did this, this morning and it was much colder then. We are warming up a bit now, getting ready for snow. I was up on our patio also so they had to float a few feet to the ground.
I would have loved to try this at our school but there is no way to have the kids outside in these temps. I am going to print off the pictures to take to work to show them.
Maybe if you try it in the morning when it is colder again?

We may try this if it gets cold enough again. Ds wanted to do it the other day, but I couldn't find my bubbles. I found them last night. Good idea to add food coloring.

COOL! i have never heard of that before lol. i showed dh your pics and prefaced it by saying 'no matter how much you wanna try this we will never ever live anywhere where you can do this LOL' (we live in orlando and are cold today). he mentioned you or anyone living in that horrible cold who wants to try other cool experiments in frigid temps go over to instructables.com they are featuring things to try in the cold LOL. cool pics thanks ~ liz

That's just so cool. I don't know if it will get cold enough here to do that, but if it ever does you betcha I'm going to try it. We always have bubble mixture and wands on hand. I like to blow bubbles in the spring and summer for the dogs to chase.

I've never tried this one, but there should be an effect. Blow up a ballon inside the house, then take it out into the frigid weather. It should skrink. Bring it back in and it should return to normal size as it warms.

They were doing this one the weather deck at our local TV station: Toss a glass of water (just the water - not the glass) up in the air and it instantly freezes into snow flakes. To dramatize the coldness, they used a glass of hot water.

That just rocks!

A friend of mine lives in Iowa where it gets really cold. He called me from his back yard a couple of years ago.

He had a spray bottle full of hot water and was trying a little experiment like what jemdandy describes. Apparently if you use hot water (why I don't know) and then spray it through a mist bottle, you get great snow flakes if it is cold enough.

I bet you are a amazing teacher!!!!! That is the craziest thing I have ever heard off...is there anyway the kids could watch from a window at school while just a adult goes out and does it? If we get down to the minus's again I am going to try it here but I doubt we get cold enough....Stacy

Good show taigen. Now that there is a reason and a way to have a little fun It seems there are more people happy with the cold than before. I never thought I would see anyone wanting the temps to be cold enough to freeze bubbles!!!! LOL As fun as it looks I'm so hoping it never gets that cold where I am.

Add my applause to the rest!! I'll never be able to try that because my hands can't handle the cold at all. But I wish I could. I'll have to tell my DD about this; it's something she could do with the kids. But how cold does it have to be?

Oops--I just read your post above about the temperature. It was -22 C. here yesterday (-7 F.), so I'll bet it would have worked then. Worth a try.
