stain removal question

I have a linen table cloth, that has some unknown stains on it. I believe, I can use peroxide? I thought, I had saved a peroxide stain removal tip, but can't find it.

Can anyone help?

Okla, hoping you get the responses you need from the kitchen table, if not I've gone on a CLEANING TIPS and a LAUNDRY ROOM forum found here, they may have other ideas for you. Hydrogen Peroxide was mentioned on the cleaning tips for some tough stains, some people found it worked. Good Luck.

To get stains out of my table linens, I soak the cloth and napkins overnight in the washing machine. Before adding the linens, fill machine to the lowest water setting using hot water and agitate with one cup of detergent and one cup of electric dishwashing detergent long enough to dissolve detergents. Add linens, agitate enough to get wet. Turn off the machine and run it in the morning.

You can also add one cup of Clorox type chlorine bleach, but I usually do this only if the stains do not come out the first way described above. Do not run in the dryer till you can tell all the stains are gone as the dryer helps set stains.

Try a paste of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda and let set 20 minutes. It may take multiple applications. Hydrogen peroxide turns to water after exposure to air about 20 minutes. Wiping tub/shower after each use with squeegie or chamois will tend to keep surfaces dry and minimize mineral deposits and mold/mildew. Leaving shower curtain/door open will improve ventilation into the tub/shower area. Keeping surfaces clean and dry will minimize mold/mildew as will improving bathroom ventilation. Run vent/fan for 30 minutes after bathing to help remove moisture from the air in the bathroom.

it might take the gey out of them, but not all the way. I always say, if a stain ruined something, then anything I do to them cant make it any worse. I will wash them in whatever it takes to get them clean again.

I can't help with the shirt, but I have 4 kids so I have 1st hand experience with the yellow stains on the baby clothes. It's my understanding that they are mostly old milk and spit-up stains. The small amount that isn't totally washed out of the fabric eventually reappears while the clothes are in storage. If it's formula it may be harder to get out due to the iron than if it's breastmilk (or so I understand), but you should be able to save most of them. Soak them overnight in Oxiclean first and then wash as usual. If that doesn't work (and IME it should for most of them), for light colored things at least, you can soak them in a combination of Cascade and non-chlorine bleach (like Biz or Clorox II) The ratio is 1 cup of each to 5 gallons very hot water. I've had that get out other kid stains I thought were impossible too. GL!

Strange Snaky. I just cant see the stripper doing that. In any case All the stripper has to be removed then an oxalic wash. Not real sure on the Oil thing either are we talking 30 weight,machine oil, vegi oil or what. J.

These are a linen table cloth and napkins. Both likely have been washed before. I got them at an estate sale.

I just wish, I had saved the peroxide method... since I went out and got some, just hadn't had needed it yet.

Moni, did you see the post I made today about stain removal? I used that recipe on a old tablecloth from the 40's or 50's. Cotton, not linen...but it worked really great - removed all the old stains (and there were a lot!) and whitened it too!

Sorry Moni, I see now that you did post on that thread. Hope you found the ingredients and I hope it works for you as well as it did for me. There must have been a psychic connection between us when we posted - your "stain removal" thread and my "stain removal recipe" thread were posted only 4 seconds apart! I must have known you needed that recipe today! haha.......

For spot removal, I use Woolite Carpet Cleaner with Oxyclean...It's fabulous on carpet or anything else...I use it on clothes, table linens and even in sewing to remove stains that I find on a fabric....

Linen is a natural fiber, and I would use caution when using a liquid chlorine bleach.

I deal with stains EVERY day. DH has involuntary tremors & food with subsequent stains get on his shirts, pj's robes, etc. His skin is extremely fragile; the slightest scratch would make you think he was bleeding to death. I find dried blood on the sheets constantly since, while sleeping he doesn't know he's bleeding. (I should buy stock in Band Aids!)

Peroxide takes out fresh blood stains but the product I've found the absolute best is Washing Soda. I put half a cup in washer, liquid detergent & hot water, add clothing, sheets, etc. Soak a couple of hours or overnight. It not only whitens whites but removes spaghetti sauce, mustard, dried blood, soot, black grease, ink & most anything else you can think of except rust & for those a few drops of Whink does it. Washing Soda is about $2.50 a box. I collect antique linens & use both products on them as needed, but never bleach.
