That stinks...literally huh?... If he were peeing on other things I would say he might have a bladder infection, do you see any pink tinge to the urine? My cat started doing that once, he backed up to the bathtub and peed on it, I saw it was pink and knew there was a problem. I hate to say but it does sound like he just doesn't like her, that is sad.....

usually if a cat starts unusual peeing it is due to some type of kidney, urinary tract infection and is often the early sign of kidney disease and failure. All of mine displayed this before full on renal failure.

Usually when a cat starts peeing on clothes or towels or anything left on the floor.....and it has always used the litter box before....it is a bladder infection.

Lots of cats don't like to be held....especially if they weren't handled a lot when they were kittens. Several of my cats don't want to be held but will sit by me and enjoy being petted. Don't force him, and let him come to terms with being petted on his own. He may never like being picked up. Most of my cats don't like it. Don't force it because he will like it less and less. He will most likely never like to be held.

Like everyone else said, get him checked for a urinary tract infection.

Our cat was peeing on clothes. She had no infection. I ended up changing her litter to unscented. That fixed the problem.

I have a cat that occassionally likes to pee in odd places.
He has never had an infection that I know of.
There is no consistency.
Sometimes its a dining room chair, sometimes spare bed, sometimes sofa...and yes dirty laundry, (but never clean)
So I keep the chairs pushed in, the bedroom door closed, a box on the sofa and a lidded laundry basket.
I have no explanation. He is a cuddle bug, but is definately the alpha male to his brother and sister cats. I know it's him because I have caught him.
I think he just occassionally wants to assert his dominance.

I have had similar experiences to those above, bladder infection and renal failure. But I will add this one thing. The vet simply felt his kidneys and could tell what was going on easily. Nothing invasive. Try the vet! I wish I had done it sooner. He died, but it probably could've been avoided if I'd gone sooner. Please learn from my lesson? I hope it turns out well for everyone. I assume the cat doesn't like the tube toy because there are two exits and he can only watch one. The sink is very solid and one way in/out. Just a guess on that one.

We've got 9 and only 1 of them ever gives us a problem with peeing outside the box. He's diabetic, front claws removed. If the box entrance, and there are three of them is dirty or if someone else is in the box, he will pee outside the box. We have tried all the different litters out there, the only one he will use is the Worlds greatest litter, expensive but it means he pees in the box. He also has an attitude though and if he doesn't get his way about something, he will pee on a rug that is in the hall on the way to the box. If a plastic bag or a cardboard box is left on the floor, he is the only one that will use it for peeing, not pooping.

I just had another thought!.. A friend of my daughter's had a cat who did the same thing... suddenly he did not like doing #1 and #2 in the same box, she ended up putting two litter boxes side by side and that fixed the issue, I have heard of this before also...

I hate my new computer....this is the third time I've typed up a long response only to have it disappear when I accidently hit the wrong freaking key!!!!!

Anyway, the cat has done the peeing thing on and off for a while now. He's been to the vet too and had a thorough exam not too long ago for fleas. I don't think he has kidney problems. But I will take him back for his shots and ask the vet about it. In the meantime, I think I'll try the unscented litter.

The cat toy is actually a cat condo...sorry I didn't explain it better. It's like the one in the picture only has two places to sleep.

Another weird thing about this cat is he likes to play with my daughter's feminine hygiene products, new ones. He has even gone into her cabinet to get them out. I told her to stop leaving them where he can get to them but apparently he can open the cabinet door. So, I told her to put them in a drawer. She didn't think that would stop him and it hasn't...this morning I found more of them in the hallway. He likes to push them under her door out in the hall. At first I thought it was Chewie (our big puppy) but one day I saw Bushido's arm sticking out pushing one of them into the hall. Funny but it gets expensive!

My cat had never done that before. Then I had a renter last fall who always threw clothes on the floor, and Basil occasionally would urinate on them. I think it was to "mark" them with his scent. Renter gone, no clothes on floor--he never did it again. Insist that your daughter NOT have clothes laying around. No clothes=no temptation.

Besides having the cat checked, do put out two litter boxes. I had another cat years ago that, like dbfirewife says, suddenly wanted two boxes. And keep them both very clean.

Hm on the cat condo. Seems like kitty would like that. I actually took my kitty on leash to PetSmart to try out which one she liked best. Can you do that? Mags likes being out and having people pet her so it worked out ok. And Pet Smart lets you bring them in.

We had one cat that would do that, and only on my daughters things. My vet suggested that my daughter has unfamiliar smells on her clothes from other kids/teenagers and other animals from school and social things, so the cat is trying to cover that up to make it familiar.

As for playing with the tampons (I can say that here, right LOL?) It is the paper and the plastic and the shape and when you smack em they make a fun noise and skitter around on the floor. Same reason Skywalker will steal straws, and if they still have their paper wrapping? His tail quivers in delight ROFL!

I think some cats are also attracted to the smell of the adhesive used on the wrappers. Or maybe the cotton, because many cats steal q-tips (new or used ew!).

Kath, there could be many reasons, but this link might be worth looking at for your cat. I just recently ordered it because one of our cats started marking a little. I think he's insecure, he's always been our fraidy cat and I'm hoping this will make him feel better. It's a pheromone product that gets pretty darn good reviews. It for sure can't hurt and might make all our cats feel a little better about being inside so much when the weather is cruddy.

Also, I think the rule of thumb is one litter box per cat PLUS an extra. So if you have 2 cats, you should provide 3 boxes. Good luck, that would annoy me a lot, the clothing thing, and I think leaving them lying around is just asking for trouble.

It sounds to me as if he is covering up a smell, such as perfume or lotion, which are on the clothes. Have her switch fragrances and see if that makes any change.

I would also make her keep her bedroom door closed. Cats will do stuff like that if they, for some reason, don't like the person perhaps her perfume smell? Cats are weird animals that's for sure. I think he's covering up a smell as kayjones said.

Keep the feminine products in Rubbermaid type containers to keep the cat out.

This post made me think of when we first got married. I had two cats, a brother and sister. When my hubby Ivan would come home from work, he left his work shoes right inside the kitchen door and Sissy would pee in them. He took the shoes, tied them together and tied them around her neck to wear for a while. She got the message and never did that again. She was trying to get rid of my husband. I guess she didn't want to share my affection with anyone. From then on she loved her daddy.

I ordered the Comfort Zone stuff Flamingo suggested. I was reading it and wondering if he has been stressed out. Sometimes he comes in the living room and just lounges around and other times he's literally jumping from the couch to the floor to the chair, under the Christmas tree, etc...like something is after him.

The litter box is in Lauren's room. She talked me into getting the cat and I told her the only way I would agree is if the box were back in her room where I couldn't smell it. Plus, there is really no other place for it in the house, which is very small.

Her throwing clothes in the floor is really annoying to me too.

I love to watch Jackson Galaxy on Animal Planet's My Cat From Hell. He's very against removing the claws and says it's very painful for them. Some brands of litter are very painful for them so he recommends getting one that is soft for their feet. I don't know what brand that is so you'll have to look it up.

I would try having two kitten litter boxes too, we have 4 indoor cats and I have noticed that most of the time they will do Number 1 in one and number 2 in the other one, actually I have more than 2 kitty litter boxes.

Dorothy, he still has his claws so that's not a problem. We do still have his uncovered litter box we bought when we first got him. I could put it out if I can find a place back there....

When Bushie pushes daughter away ... and runs to another person for cuddling, sounds as though he doesn't like daughter.

We use the crystal type litter and find there is very little smell, especially if we scoop the....er...solids....out and flush them. Our cat's litter tray lives in the laundry.
Sounds like Bushido has an issue with Lauren. As others have suggested, it might be her scent, but with cats it could be anything :-)
I'm not sure he's peeing on her clothes to mark them: when out cat does that sort of thing it's to let us know she's PO'd about something.
I'd let Lauren deal with her laundry by herself if she's going to leave the clothes here the cat can pee on them. A few late drying sessions and she might feel it's easier to put the clothes in the hamper.
Out of curiosity, why does your dryer take three times longer to dry? Lint trap or vent need emptying? I ask because we recently stayed in a vacation apartment and couldn't get over how long the dryer was tasking until DH checked the lint trap and discovered we wee the only tenants in forever to do so.

I don't know why the dryer is taking so long Colleen. I clean the lint out everytime I dry clothes. I even pulled the back hose thing off to see if it was clogged with lint...it wasn't. It gets hot so it must be blocked where I can't see it. I'm calling the appliance guy on Monday to come out to look at it. I was going to do it earlier this week but have been sick all week.

I forget how old your daughter is but if she is in her early-ish teens... her hormones may contribute to a body smell that the cat smells but that humans do not notice. Do you notice it more at different times of the month?

As for attaching her products, can you buy some cheap ones and keep those in the sink cabinet then she can keep hers someplace else. You can keep putting his back in the cabinet for him to rediscover. Does not fix the problem but it is a less expensive option him going after hers, which might be more expensive.

I like the idea of just keeping the old torn up ones for a lure...HAHA! Then put her good products into a container that he cannot get into, maybe even a cleaned out jar from a kitchen item would be good and air tight too so he couldn't smell it. Those things are quite perfumey these days.

The vent to the outside may be what's getting blocked, they are notorious for it.

Sounds right, go outside and check and see if there's a bird's nest or something that's clogged it up. You should also keep foliage clipped away from the vent and give it some opened area for the air to blow out of.
