Persil Small & Mighty - UK launch

Whilst in Sainsbury's today I noticed stickers on the Persil liquigel bottles announcing the launch of Persil Small & Mighty liquids in March! The picture shows that all 5 Persil variants will be available and come in the same curvy bottles as Comfort concentrates. They appear to have a silver wrapper all around the bottle rather than just a stuck on label. Can't find anything about it on the net though :-(

I'm quite looking forward to trying this - it seems like a genuine advance in liquid detergents here.

I know Unilever already have All Small & Mighty in the US, so is it as good as regular All liquid?

That's funny... While shopping last night, I noticed that the Wisk 3x bottles now have a new wrap on them, and the new wrap has the Persil "splat" on it. The scent is also slightly different.

Comparing ALL to Wisk, the ingredient list on the Wisk has a few exta items, enzymes being one. I bet Wisk and Persil will be the like items.

That's interesting. As far as Persil by Henkel is concerned, the only news is that they are currently selling their detergents in special boxes and bottles because Persil celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Been using a Bosch Nexxt 3yrs now, and running strong. I use powder cheer for colors, shirts, jeans, and colored towels and have been quite happy with it. I use tide HE for the whities and really grimmy stuffs. I will some times use clorox2 for some loads and only use LCB for dish rags and cleaning rags. Back in the early 90's I use to use double power surf liquid in my T/L's. It did a great job. I kept a small box of cheer with color guard around for nice shirts only. One day by accident I put cheer in the tidy whity load and was surprised at the results. Since then I have tryed other brands and flavors and keep comming back to the same old cheer. Ive heard arguments for/against powder and liquid for both dishwasher and laundry. As for the laundry the only evidence i've found against liquid is, it seems alot of people that use liquid do all or almost all cold washing. I ve seen the evidence of this in machines. Smells, mildew etc.. As for the dishwasher, I see alot of problems with the liquid/gels. It seems to be worse with maytags and frigidaires. Its seems most of todays low water using dishwashers dont or cant get rid of all the detergent and I see a build up in the pumps. Personaly speaking I have found the liquids didnt clean very well for me. I currently use cascade "pure rinse" Of course brand, model, water conditions, and settings all play a part. One other note on dish detergents, the shelf life of dishwasher detergent is very short. Usally about 1yr. Most stores are good about rotating stock, but when it goes on sale alot of people like to stock up. With dishwasher detergent this is not a good thing. Usally half way thru that "bargin buy" the shelf life has expired. This seems to be a bigger problem with powders. Just my .02 cents

Thanks Mara, I haven't tried Tide with Febreze or Tide Total Care because of their scents. Especially Tide Total Care - I really dislike the way that detergent smells. Also, I find liquid Tide very difficult to rinse. I usually wash my darks on Hot without draining the water pipes first which results in a wash temp of about 95-100F (so I view this as a solid (not ATC) Warm wash). I add some borax along with the detergent which really helps with the smells. The best detergent for deodorizing and washing ability I found so far is Tide HE Powder with Bleach, but I hesitate to use it on dark clothes because of fading. I need to do a dark wash tonight so I will use my treasured Persil Small & Mighty for Colors and report back ;-) I'm pretty sure that it will work better than SG 4x!!! I will definitely get another bottle of Persil when I go to Scotland in a couple of weeks!

As PP mentioned above, the average joe just doesn't care - they load the machine, drop in a dose of detergent (and in a lot of cases, actually overdose above what the manufacture states) comeback to wet clothes to move to the dryer and as long as look and smell clean - they're happy/not bothered. However, for those who do care, it becomes just like chemistry - everybodys laundry is completely different: detergent type, water type/temp/level, machine type, cycle type/temp, load size, fabric type in the load (and what's loaded in together or not), stain types and even down to how long an article has gone between last wash, what its been subjected to, and even what its made of (2 items of 100% cotton could be different due to manufacturing processes and dyes etc) - I'm waffling, but this list won't even be all that's at play. Detergent manufacturers are a business, they need to make money; they have stakeholders, employees, suppliers, contractors and marketers to pay - so they must drive value and revenues. Don't' suppose it'll ever be proven (or ever admitted), but it's in their interest to give customers what they're happy with/what is acceptable, whilst maximising revenue - end of the day, if they dont make money, what are they doing it for? I did read somewhere (and I wish I could remember where) that a certain big manufacturer of a very famous detergent was starting to see revenues drop to a level below what they were aiming for/happy with, and it was centred around the launch of single dose detergents - on the one hand, they carry a premium price tag and it guarantees that a user gets no more than the stated amount of loads - but what they actually found was customers weren't purchasing detergent at the store as often due to the fact that compared to when the same users were using powder/liquid format, the overdoing (just dumping 1 full cap in) was causing people to repeat purchase more often than that of pod users. And what do you know, the dosing recommendations for pods were increased - going from 1 pod for any load, to 1 for medium, 2 for large and 3 for high capacity/extra dirty. The same has now become true of liquids - dose increased - line 1 for medium, 3 for large and line 5 for "full he loads" as "they are a higher capacity than standard top loaders and of course more clothes = more dirt)" --their tag line-- All this in a time when detergents are becoming more "concentrated" and front loaders use as much as a quarter the amount of water than that of a TL. Now how can detergents be being concentrated, Used in machines that use less water (which is what will ultimately determine the strength of the solution that detergents are dissolved within) and the doses are going up? Add this to the fact that washer manufacturers often say use less than recommended. Makes you think.

I love UK Persil although I have not tried the tabs. I am currently using liquid Small & Mighty Persil (Regular and Colour). It works really well and smells so good! Definitely one of my favorite detergents. On that note, my DD is coming home for the holidays in a few weeks. I'm wondering if I should ask her to bring any new laundry products home from Scotland...

Sounds interesting! The Persil liquids really are quite poor at the moment. It'll be nice to have a concentrated laundry product on the market again too!

I wonder if they'll have a new dosing ball?

aquarius - are Persil liquids poor at the moment? They haven't changed since they came out a few years ago have they?

As for the dosing ball - perhaps, as you only use one small capful, it is poured into the drawer instead? The picture shows them without a ball, just different coloured caps.

I'm not a fan of the current Persil liquids scent, it smells more like a household cleaner than a laundry product. I can't wait to try these though!

P.S. - this is in the UK, nothing to do with the German brand that someone pictured above!!

Hi everyone.

For anyone unaquainted with european detergents, Persil on sale in the UK, is owned by Unilever.

Persil on sale in Europe, is owned by Henkel.

Unilever sells same formulation as UK Persil under the name of Omo, in European countries.

What? OMO = British Persil?! I always considered OMO a rather cheap brand.

Hm... just looked @ unilever.de and there's no mentioning of OMO - only Sunil (regular detergent), Coral (for delicates) and Kuschelweich (think it's called Snuggle in the UK)...

I haven't seen OMO in stores either.

It depends where you live as to whether Omo is the equivalent of Persil. In some places, it is, in others it's the equivalent of Surf. In France, Skip is like Persil and Omo is like Surf.

Germany also has Skip but as a cheap brand, Sunil is their Persil equivalent and Coral is their premium Colour/Wool/Darks brand (it's not just for delicates).

sprocket - at least in my experience the current batch of Persil liquids are quite poor at rinsing and don't clean as well as the P&G liquids. IMO I think, whilst Persil and Ariel are somewhat equal in powders Ariel and Bold liquid are by far better than Persil - but with the new Small & Mighty liquids we'll have to wait and see :-).

Sunil - it sounds like somewhere where the German version of The Bill is set :-).

Alex - I love those German Persil bottles! Do they have these in the Neterlands at all? I'm going to Amsterdam next week, have Ariel Compact powder on my list and perhaps a pack of Persil Megaperls... any recommendations?

Recommendations? Oh - I don't know. Maybe you should ask Louis (foraloysius) - I think he'll know best what's available in the Netherlands. I've also posted "some" information about What's New from Ariel to the "Ariel Ads UK/IRL" thread on aw.org's Super Forum.

(Yes - I am aware of the fact that drawing the black line around the "collar" is a rather silly thing to do... but I just had to do it ;) )

*the penny drops* I just realised that bottle is a person!

Fab - I want one!

aquarius - I have to agree about the poorer cleaning & rinsing of Persil liquids too. I'm not a fan of Bold - I don't find it cleans too well and it definitely doesn't leave clothes soft or smelling of anything after drying when I've used it.

Well the wait is over! I got some Persil Small & Mighty yesterday. I got the Colour version and the Aloe Vera version too. Both clean amazingly well, rinse is very good also, much better than the old liquigel.

I noticed that Unilever have also launched Surf Small & Mighty, in 2 flavours, Tropical and Sunshine - the Surf versions were both cheaper than Persil too in keeping with the old Surf/Persil pricing.
