Cabinets being installed TODAY!!! Yippee

I'm so excited........my cabinets are getting installed today. Unfortunately I have to be at work but DH is home. I picked out the countertop last week (Cambria quartz-Cranbrook). Expecting them to templated in the next 2 days or so!!

Plan is to do the tile floor myself this weekend!!

I am soooooo thrilled. I've been living without a kitchen since September, I can't wait to see it after work.

Well, you and I are a perfect balance! My old ones are being dem'd as we speak! Kudos on doing your own tile! Mine will be done later this week (by someone else!) since I'm having tile wall-to- wall and having cabinets installed over it. Lots of luck!

I know how excited you feel. I took two days off work to watch/supervise my cabinets going up. It was definitely a thrill. That was the week before Christmas and we are still working on the countertops. Congrats. I bet you can't wait to get home from work to see all the progress. I think something I didn't realize was that on day 1 they put up the cabinets which looked great but day2 they put on all the molding and did all the detail work. It was great seeing it all come together. Please post pics.

I love seeing those lovely shims. There's only one way to know where to place them and that's with a level. I'll bet those cabinets are dead on. In the first picture above, note the shim behind the upper right cabinet. It is there because the wall strays out of plumb. Yes, it will create a tapering gap between the back of the cabinet and the wall, but if he fastened the cabinet to the crooked wall, the cabinet would be "racked" out of square and the right door would not shut. I'd rather have a little caulk/moulding at my cabinet/wall than a cabinet door that won't close. The appliance and countertop subs will smile when they arrive. Sounds like you will have the sink cabinet replaced, right, that's great - you will be happier in the long run! Just want to ask - what is the Brand name (and the color of white) of these beautiful cabinets? Looks like a style that will fit very nicely in our new Old House! May I also ask, what have you selected for your Counter Top, Floor, Back Splash, Sink, Frig. and Range? And what is the size of your Kitchen and the Island? I also used glass doors over the sink in my last house - really makes the space open up - used the antique glass, looked lovely. Good news--Cab guy came over first thing this morning to look at things and discuss solutions. Problem one on sink wall (and the most important one to solve) Indeed he was off by an inch, so he re-measured at least twelve times ;) and is effecting the order of the appropriate materials to make it right (including a corner cabinet at the end that is 1.5 inches narrower than the original). Worst case scenario it could delay counters by a week but he's optimistic that he might be able to at least get the right sized carcass in here in order to template on time... Problem two (base cab to right of fridge) seems to be more of a misunderstanding--what I thought I was asking for, what the software printout shows in the picture, what was actually ordered and what I paid for. In the end, I've only paid for the 24" deep cabinet and MCR1 is right--the upcharge to go 30" on that particular cabinet (and have the appropriate depth drawers etc.) isn't really worth it to me. The contractor is going to pull the 24" cabinet forward six inches, put a cleat in the rear for the counter top and I'll still have a 30" deep counter there. After sleeping on it, I'm definitely okay with this solution. So, happy to report speedy and responsive customer service so far! Thanks for all your input and advice... B

As an update, I am not insane (at least, not about this, maybe in general from all the remodelling!) We were visiting our contractor's office today (after templating our granite, hooray!) and saw the board again which was the sample stain. It definitely does not match! I showed them the picture (posted here on this thread) and everyone in the office agreed that the cabinet maker must have used the wrong stain or somehow gotten them too dark. We're going to check the sample board (that we signed as the stain we wanted) with the cabinets at the house tomorrow to be sure, but pretty sure they're off. Question is what we do about it, and I think the answer is actually nothing. I'm getting used to the look, and I think the darker stain may actually be pretty elegant. I think we could probably make the cabinet guy restain, but at this point I think I'm okay with what we have. DH says it's a happy accident - we had thought about really dark cabinets but were a little nervous about it so went more medium, and now we may be on the darker side anyway.

We've also just started demolition today...I think they've finished the cabinets and are working on the old pantry now...(they won't let me take pictures though~)

Well, saskatchewan_girl, I should have been making this post myself, but instead of showing up at 8 this morning as scheduled, my Cabinet Guy called me then to tell me that they would be here around noon. Arrrrgh! He assured me that the base cabs would be ready for counters tomorrow. I hope to have good news to report tonight.

DH called and said the cabinets look great........I can't wait to get home. I guess the plumber hired by the Insurance GC didn't show up to take out the temp sink and replace!!! Good thing DH was home : )
Holligator, sorry to hear about your cabinet guy being late......good thing he told you, could you imagine just sitting & waiting!!! That would drive me crazy.
I'm a little nervous about posting my pics......everyone has such beautiful, fancy kitchens and mine will be very simple. Also mine are dark which don't seem to be the "norm" but it's what I wanted.
Good luck for you gals demo'ng....it's exciting but good to have it coming to an end : )

Yes very exciting. Our cabinets are also being installed as we speak. Both DH and I took a couple days to be home for cabinet installation and templating. Cant wait to see everyones finshed kitchens.

Congrats!

I just got home to a message on the AM that the kitchen place has a carpenter coming Wednesday to look at all the rest that has to be done... I've had so many disappointments with this company I'm really trying hard not to get my hopes up, but part of me is thinking...maybe, just maybe this thing is going to come to a close? We approved of the replacement granite piece for the peninsula last week via pics on email (being fabricated in China- then we have to wait for delivery by slow boat). I am just about to paint second coat on baseboard and door mouldings- crown molding is 'one of those details' to be worked out, so can't buy CM for rest of house until that decision is done. You're probably going to be finished before us- let's see..., sure hope so, wouldn't wish my delays on anyone.

WOW! An exciting install day on the forum!! Your cabs look fabulous - isn't it just amazing how long it takes to get to the point of cabs, but putting them in doesn't take that long?? I can't wait to see it all done! It's going to look smashing!

Looks like it's all coming together wonderfully. Can't wait to see it with all the cabinets and the Cambria installed. I've been trying to get to a local showroom that has the Cambria on display, as I've only seen it online but I like the way it looks.
