Okay, I have always been told that whatever you are doing on New Year's Day is what you will be doing the rest of the year. Oh carp am I in trouble!

We got up New Year's Day-no hot water. Our water heater was just replaced last year. Of course it was a holiday so the place where I purchased the water heater was not open-I had to go there to insure my warranty would be valid. The kids where both home from out of town and we had no hot water-not the end of the world, just heat some water on the stove and life goes on.

January 6th, noticed water coming out from under the cabinets in the kitchen. You heard me right, from under the cabinets. Turns out our hot water line had a small leak, a small leak that goes undetected for several days can cause a big problem. The board-i don't know what it is called- that is under the sink had already bowed down so that is why the water didn't come out from inside the cabinet instead of under. That has been fixed. Life goes on once again.

January 14th, major problem, OMG!!!! SO is in the bedroom watching TV, I was in the living room on the computer, all of a sudden it sounds like someone is taking a shower, only a really loud shower. We both run to the bathroom, we hear water running inside the wall at full force, did I mention it was really loud. We run to the basement. Tons of water running into our basement. We have to shut the water off at the meter FAST before it ruins the whole house. It was 9pm, we both had on shorts and t-shirts, it was 7 degrees outside. No time to put on clothes, our house was being flooded. We almost froze to death and our meter and our neighbors meter are side by side midway between our houses, which is which, we don't know. SO pries the first one open and turns the water off, wrong meter, he pries the other open and can't turn the valve off, it just will not turn off. At this point we are soaking wet, did I mention it was 7 degrees? We called the emergency number for the city and 20 minutes later they were there to shut our water off. 6 hours later we went to bed. We probably could have got the water all sucked up a lot sooner if we had one of those $15 shop vacs that Walmart had on their black friday sale, the one that SO we would never use so why get it.

Of course the night of the big disaster I cried and was very upset, but when we got up for work the next day after only 2 hours sleep, I looked at SO and laughed and said that was pretty rough, but nobody died.

We are okay, warm and dry for now. Just sort of waiting for the next shoe to drop. I was smart enough to have the plumber check out all of the plumbing while he was there. He said we shouldn't have anymore problems --- Of course not. The problem that had caused this disaster made the plumber scratch his head and say 'I've never seen that happen before' the coupling had broke right in half. How odd.

You just have to laugh, don't you? LOL
