prep sink close to main sink, should faucets match?

Hi all

Galley kitchen, prep sink and main sink about 6 feet apart along one side. Should the faucets be the same?

I am thinking about Grohe, Lady lux cafe to complement the Lady lux plus in Super steel that I have purchsed for the prep sink (can be used as the pot filler).

Maybe I should just have the 2 of the Lady lux plus style?

My two faucets are relatively close together. I didn't do same faucet, or even same brand, but I did do same finish (polished nickel) and both are traditional in style. It's an alternative to doing same.

I did what Pirula did...Different brands, similar but different high arc simple styles, and same finish (chrome).

The main thing to consider is the height of your faucet. As long as the prep faucet moves side-to-side, you should be able to get things in and out of the sink easily, but you may not be able to wash or fill larger pots and pans. I chose a lavatory sink and lav faucet for my prep sink. I did this for aesthetic reasons. Everyone tried to discourage me on the sink size, placement, and my choice of faucet. I took lots of time to consider how the sink would be used, the biggest thing I might want to wash, etc. The only problems that I encountered is that lav (and prep sinks) have smaller drains. This meant that I couldn't use a regular strainer basket. Of course the prep faucets may not have sprayer features, but who cares?!!!? If you like the faucet combo you've selected, I can't think of a reason not to go for it. After all, it's YOUR kitchen. (By the way, I have a high-end Delta faucet in an unusual bronze. It did not come with a drain or air gap for the dishwasher. Don't know what color your is, but buying the matching accesories for those two items was exorbitant. Good luck!

Deciding between a Kohler Vinnata and a Brizo Tresa for my prep sink.... My main sink is the Kohler Vinnata. While I'd love the look of the Brizo Tresa, I worry that the two looks don't go together.... should I be safe and just get a smaller version of the Kohler? What do you think?

I don't like Corian. My sinks don't feel like plastic or corian. Yes, it is a composite material, but I'm not sure somebody would walk up to it and say "ooouuhhgg it's composite." They look metallically, silvery gray and wear like iron. If your mindset is that composite equals fake, then they aren't for you. Frankly, sometimes composite materials are better, IMHO, than natural. YMMV. And this is coming from someone who makes the huge majority of her food from scratch with organic and locally-sourced ingredients so natural matters to me. My cabinets were made by Cornerstone Cabinetry, a one-man shop in Buckley. His quote equaled or was better price wise and included much more than quotes I received elsewhere for semi-custom cabinets. My cabs were made without fillers and included end panels without extra charge. I received personal attention, hand holding, and patience with last minute changes as the cabs were being made that I doubt you'd receive from a big box store or many other places. After experiencing a custom shop and products, I can't believe I would have been happy with anything else.

acauley, you've now spent some time thinking this through (BTW, I used to have poor well water - a lot of iron so I understand why you have a filter!), and it seems like you've come up with the best solution. I don't consider a dedicated tap as 'bling' if this is something you use daily and need (such as yourself) and I would definitely want hot and cold at the prep (I too thought only cold at the prep until I gave it thought). I see no problems with putting them at 10 and 2. I think I'd rather have the faucet at 12 to go directly in the drain with the tap offset in a square sink, but then again, this might restrict the swivel of some faucet necks, particularly in a round sink. So 10 and 2 are probably best in your solution. Also, have you considered putting in a disposal at your prep? Even if you compost, they are pretty indispensable for veggie prep. Below are 2 photos to give examples of what yours might look like: Showing faucet and I assume a tap at about 10 and 2... I think this looks rather nice Showing faucet at 12 with sprayer (like a tap kinda!) offset - if that's a swivel faucet neck looks like it'd bump into a tall tap dispenser which would create a problem I wish you luck in your reno!

Mine are the same faucet, same style, but different finishes. Main sink is a Brilliant Stainless (with anthracite silgranit sink), and the prep sink is Venetian Bronze (with dark copper sink). I thought it might look odd, but it doesn't bother me a bit. I really don't even notice it at all!

Alicia, I love your kitchen. Is this your first posting of it? It's beautiful. I love wood, and you have lots of lovely wood!

My 2 faucets don't match - and I don't think it's important that they do. Mine are both stainless steel and are similiar styles, and as long as they work well together I think that's all that matters.

Well, would you like them to match? Each poster here has done it a different way. I'm doing three different counter tops yet had to have matching faucets in different sizes. My sinks are close to each other too.

Either same faucet different finishes (I'd never have answered that was if I'd not have seen the lovely kitchen above) or same finish, no need to match. What would look bad would be two different finishes and styles in the same kitchen.

My faucets (I have three) are all different, all within six feet of each other...and the only thing they have in common is the same finish. They look great and each functions as it should for the area it serves.

I used the same manufacturer (KWC), same finish (brushed stainless), but different versions of the same style line, both one lever & pullout. The cleanup sink has a side lever, on the right. The prep sink has five sides (the top inside corner is cut off) & is installed in a corner of our island; its faucet is installed where the missing corner would be and has a top lever, so that it can be accessed from both sides.

Alicia, I also love your kitchen. I had not thought same faucet, different finish could work but it looks great in your space.
