I would have waited for a manager. I worked retail for several years and know that a manager will do almost anything to keep a customer happy. I would go back to Younker's with my receipts and ask for a manager. You will get your $10 coupon.

What is Younkers?

A department store first started in Iowa, and probably limited to a handful of Mid-Western states. I don't quite know what it's equivalent to - Dillards? Bon Ton? Macy's? We have a nice Younkers that I never go in; for no other reason than I'd rather go to a stand alone Kohl's than the mall.

This is exactly why I hardly shop at Younkers. Kohl's has hurt them so bad here there is a rumor they may close. They are starting to change their ways a bit but it may be too late.

I worked at Younkers for a while. There was nothing the clerk could do for you unless you purchase it all at the same time. A coupon will spit out after you reach the total. I agree with Linda, just bring the receipts and they will make it right with you. Just do during the current promotion.

We have their sister store Boston Store here. It's similiar to Macy's, not as high end as Dillards. They do allot of coupons but we usually do the goodwill sales only. Thats when you can really make out. Their clearance sections are generally good as well. On the rare occasion some of their coupons can be used for cosmetics. We're in SE Wisconsin.

Good36, the coupons were sitting right next to the cashier, they weren't on a receipt. I didn't want to waste my time waiting for a manager and then explaining the situation once again. THIS is why I like Kohl's so much better. I'm with Jkayd on this one.

Must be like Herberger's. There is a ton of coupons, % off etc almost every day. Not a bad store clerks pretty good except occasionally I would get one that was real pushy. Then is when I would walk out. Those clerks don't last too long with all us "elders"

Personally, I hate the cupon routine. My contention is why not give me the right price in the first place and avoid all the hassle of handling cupons. It'd be a labor saver.

Cupons is a way of advertising a lower price that they know the customer will not follow through with in half of the sales. Most cupons go unredeemed.

With the statement "spend 50.00 anywhere in the store and get a 10.00 coupon" I immediately thought it said you spend $50.00, in one transaction, not multiple. I understand your feeling though and guess I would have talked to a manager or service desk to see. I'd guess they'd give it to you but people need to realize that cashiers aren't very often allowed to change store policies, give special credits or anything. That's what the service desk or manager is for.

And never take out your frustrations or try to complicate life for a cashier. They're not a telemarketer - they're someone working a legitimate job and having to deal with the public which is a very difficult job for which they're usually way underpaid. Taking out frustrations on a cashier or trying to prevent them from doing their job is abominable IMO.

I never mistreat salespeople, waiters/waitresses, receptionists, etc. Cynic. I hope you weren't implying that. I stated that I just walked out. I was a waitress in high school and college, and believe me I know their pain in dealing with the public. I also learned good manners from my Mother.

Maybe they had to validate the coupon after the sale went through. You slide the coupon it into a slot when sale was finsihed. Maybe things are different in different stores. I don't know. I have seen them do that at Kohls. Of course our Kohls have checkout lanes and you usually just check out at the end of your shopping. Younkers has them all over the store here.

I have never heard of Younkers. But someone mentioned Kohl's. I LOVE Kohl's. I use to shop at Belk's a popular dept. store around here, until someone told me about Kohl's. It is what Belk's Use to be. I also do not like coupons that have terms printed so fine you cannot see them with a 5x magnifiying glass. Their Bad.

Why would you stand in line multiple times in ONE store?

Arcy, don't comment if you are going to be your usual snarky self. sheeze. And why I would stand in multiple lines is I bought a pair of shoes in the shoe department, paid for them there. Bought some women's clothing-paid for it there. On my way out, saw a hat for my son-paid for it there. Hope my explanation satisfies your curiosity.

Susan, please convey my congratulations to your DD on her accomplishments and hard work.

Oh, and I believe coupons are not a gift, but rather a way to get a customer to come back into the store. Which I would have done had I received it. But now I won't.
