I used to work in hatchery chicken barns and they would give us the double-yolks to take home. Hard-boiled, yum!

The idea of getting Lottery tickets came to me also. I will definitely get myself a few today.

I do have many systematic statistical ways of playing lottery to maximize the benefit of winning. One of the strategies is to buy two tickets of the same numbers, which is entirely fitting for the double-yolk incident.

I will tell you part of the logic behind double numbers playing:

Almost always, there are more than one top price winners. If I have two tickets, my winning share will be doubled. In addition, I will be instantly famous, and I will charge $10,000 to go on each TV talk shows.

I know, I tend to over-think things. I am such an egghead.

I've had but a couple of double-yolkers over the years that got past chickpoint Charlie. Most doubles go to bakeries from what I hear and it'd make sense if it's true.

Gotta get cracking before I'm too couped up to do anything.

I got curious again tonight. So I cracked open two more eggs. Well, the picture can tell you, two more double yolk eggs! 7 double yolks out from 8 eggs. Mighty strange.

The eggs on the left bowl has the three eggs from yesterday, two double yolks and one single yolk. Also interesting, overnight eggs in the refrigerator get more orangy.

I have no idea what the explanation might be,
But I sure wish I could get hold of some eggs like that!

Except for one double yolker
from a friend's chickens a couple years ago,
I've not seen any since I left the farm.
That was over 50 years ago!

If I ever found any like that,
I'd be going back and trying to get several more dozen
from (hopefully) the same batch!

My poultry guy at the farmer's market told me that some chickens (breeds of chickens? specially raised chickens? -- I don't know) always lay double-yolk eggs. He can charge higher prices for some of his eggs because he can guarantee double yolks. People around here like them, I guess because you're only eating one big fried egg but it seems like you're eating two.
So somehow you got eggs laid by the double-yolking chickens.

I wonder if they ever get twin chicks when hatching eggs?

My dad buys eggs that a farmer labels as extra large and he normally gets at least half double yolk eggs.

Good question. The ones at the market are not fertilized, but what if they were? If two chicks did start to grow, they'd surely run out of room inside the egg. I will ask Randy at the market on Thursday.
