Flora, same here! I left some outside this past winter and am impressed with the results! B.nutans fared well, surviving a low of 18°F, and many nights in a row with frost/freeze. Behind, B. 'Foster's Striate' which may be a cultivar of B. pyramidalis, not sure, did not fare so well. None of them survived (out of 3 pairs in diff spots.) Some frost bite, but still blooming. Pic from this past weekend.

I don't know if you still need an id. For what it's worth it looks a lot like Mammillaria crinata subsp. painteri.

you don't have to move the door, just change that 1990 to something that fits the period of your home. Any of those doors in my pictures would work. is there a Salvage store in your area? they will have a ton of vintage doors there. or, Restore, craigslist, offer up,,,people are always redoing old homes and often sell the original doors. You could find a good price on those vintage ones. if they're painted, strip them. (I use SoyGel, or rent a HotGun paint stripper. get it down to raw wood, sand it w/multiple grits and either stain/seal, or prime it and paint it one of those fabulous colors. ) I'd bring in flowers in pinks/purples/whites and lots of green foilage to work w/your gorgeous roof color! you see this porch? (ignore the ceiling. you need to paint yours!) see how the flowers line the walkway? Or like this one? Tried to photoshop. (your pic is very small and at an angle, so I really could do a door or the porch very well) Just working w/the white I added lots of pinks Japanese Maple tree, Purple/Pink Hydrangeas, purple/lavender flowers, try a copper rain chain in ithe corner, These would be perfect w/you cape cod-similar exterior have the rain chain empty into a dry creek bed or an area filled w/these colors of rocks or mulch all around your porch I'd have lavender planters w/these hydrangea colors see these hanging purple containers? (and the Japanese maple??) copy this you see how the bottom of the porch was done w/these low plants? do this to hide the lattice trim. Then spruce up the porch w/paint, planters, a swing, a bench, whatever. find used rocking chairs and paint one. If you can't find the right color pots, get the cheap terra cotta or the plastic ones and spray paint them. Valspar has some awesome spray paint colors. Do some better numbers, paint the porch/steps. diff door, some better hanging plants. This potted hydrangea is the perfect shade of lavender for your home! Painted steps. Try Watery on the porch ceiling, and if you'd rather go w/blue/lavender gray colors, try some of these Your house reminds me of this style of cape cod, except you have the porch. you can pick some vibrant colors for the door or accents. Is there a color you prefer? here are some stormy blueish grays w/red and white accents.

NO PROBLEM!! I am not a professional at all, but I love stuff like this. I am currently trying to change my house. I have a flat ranch style house with 0 depth to it. Completely rectangular with a flat roof porch and no gables. Talk about hard to change up. Your have a beautiful home. A few ideas on the driveway. You can try to tie the driveway in up to the porch. Put bricks along the side of the driveway and up to the stairs like this photo. This can be a little pricey maybe line it with pea gravel for a cheaper option. If you move the stairs to line up with the door you can remove the first two section on the concrete path and work the third section into the driveway, you may have to take the third out so you can reposition it - make it curve so it still flows with the rest of the path. If you have a little bit of money you can try something like this, you would have to remove the driveway and some of the pathway and start over. For less maintenance you don't have to have gaps like here, but you can run the driveway all the way up to the door. I know its not ideal having you car here but if you can't move it per city property then you have to dress it up a little.
