Our Family New Year

New Years Eve DS, DIL, GS5 and GD2 came in at around 6:00PM. We had Pizza and Snacks and did a few mild fireworks. The GD2 and GS5 had a blast watching the fireworks. Later we built a fire in the fire pit and the Adults had a champagne toast. The GKÂs managed to stay awake until the New Year came in. Whew!

I was up at 6:00 with my first cup of coffee and the GS5 was the next to wake up. Chatter, Chatter, ChatterÂ..OMG! "Honey, Granny GayleÂs Ears donÂt wake up until She has had a cup of coffee." "WouldnÂt you like to watch "BABE" while I have my coffee?"

After Â½ a cup of coffee, GD2 is next to get up. Chatter, Chatter, Chatter. Dogs running scared. "IÂm Hungry". "Granny Gayle has Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal, would you like some?" "I want waffles". I remembered I had frozen waffles. Chipped the frost off the waffles that have probably been in the freezer for months. GS5"I like my waffles cut in 4 triangles." GD2 "Me too". GS5 "These waffles taste expired". (5 Years OLD and He says expired.) "Granny GayleÂs waffles just taste a little different".

Finally everyone is awake and the clutter begins Art Projects scattered all over the LR. Cooking and waiting on the other guests. GS5 is into Magic and Granny Gayle is watching magic tricks on 3rd cup of coffee and cooking at the same time. Chatter, Chatter, ChatterÂ

Granny Gayle goes to the Nursing Home to get Mom. Mom and Granny Gayle watch the Magic Show.

DD and SIL finally arrive and I am rescued. DD watching the Magic Show while I continue to cook. Niece, Husband and Baby arrive. Lots of Chatter, Chatter, Chatter, Laughter, Joke Exchanges, Football Game Blaring, More Champagne. Granny Gayle and SIL having a Bloody Mary while cooking.

Finally at 1:00 pm the Buffet is set. 5 Pork Tenderloins, Black-eyed Pies, Zucchini Casserole, Mashed Potatoes, Cabbage, Cornbread, Sweet Tea, Coconut Cream Pie, Pecan Pie, and Peach Cobbler. We put up our two 8Â Tables and all sat down together. Eighteen for New Years Lunch.

Granny Gayle cleans kitchen, while everyone goes outside to play soccer. Whew!

It was a Great Day! At 8:00 pm everyone is gone. Granny Gayle and Granddaddy Dean have a Crown and Coke while sitting on heated message recliners. Welcome 2008!

How neat! I miss my grands being little.My youngest is 8 and lives in OK.The rest range in ages 15 to 24.Sounds like you had a loverly day!

Linda, he's beautiful. Ashley adopted a German Shepherd too, his name was Rex. He gets called everything anyway, as my family is wont to do, mostly he gets called "Doofus". Buster, of course, has become the WonderDoodle. The WonderWeiner was Actually "Annie's Lucky in Love", his name was supposed to be "Lucky", but he became WeinerDog, then WeinerKing, then Wonderweiner. Cooper has become Noops, my neice called him "nooper" but I mostly call him "baby" I think you should name him whatever you want, although I also like Bullet, being a Roy Rogers/Trigger fan, LOL. He's beautiful and I'm happy for both of you. Ann T, I didn't know you'd gotten another dog after Stetson, I'm happy for you too and I didn't really think Karen would get another dog after Captain, but she did too. Just more love to go around, I think. Annie

Sure arjay! I bought our kitty condo from overstock and am very pleased with it. It was reasonably priced, very easy to assemble and once I attached the bobbles to it, the girls took to it immediately. They love it and use it all the time. Unlike a lot of them this is not covered in carpet, but in fleece which is great as it doesn't rip out or shred like carpet does and it's much softer.

Congratulations, Donnakay!! I resolve to stop waiting for stuff to arrive and to actually have a kitchen. I plan (but not so strong as resolve) to have bi-weekly dinners for family and friends ostensibly for conviviality and to nurture relationships, but also to experiment on them as I learn to do all kinds of things with my gonzo new appliances that were just not possible with the half dead old kitchen. Cat_Mom, I had the whole recipe problem until one day I decided I'd just had it with the multiple pages of notepad paper with family recipes, and the clipped outs, and dumped them all on my desk. Turned on the TV to interesting but not very visual entertainment, and didn't get my desk back until I'd typed my way through the lot. My recipes directory as all kinds of sub-directories like a cookbook but with my own kind of categories. It makes it SO easy. I do print out ones that need specific following, and keep the print-outs in a basket in the kitchen, where they're handy to give away to those who ask, or to reuse. But when I'm planning, making shopping lists, etc., or when one gets just too grotty, I can print out a new one. I highly recommend this!! In fact, I also resolve to type up recipes that I like that are in books, because I can't always find the right one. And since I use them as a starting point usually, remembering the outcome doesn't always help (as in the bread pudding recipe didn't call for poppy seeds...so which one was it now?)

I am a big believer in forgiveness. I try to forgive those whom I believe have caused me harm; I hope that others will forgive me if they feel I have in some way harmed them; and I try to forgive myself for not being perfect. I try to give others the benefit of the doubt...that if they have behaved in a way where I felt hurt, I trust their actions were not deliberate. I hope they extend the same to me. I know that I have never in my life set out to deliberately cause harm to another; I try to believe the same is true of others. So, I guess my resolutions would be twofold: one, to be generous in judging the motives of others; two, to learn to forgive others & myself --- again & again & again & again.....

That was a great commentary on your day! Love the waffle response...."Granny's waffles taste different"! LOL
I'll have to remember that one. Whew, what commotion. Back to peace and (too)quiet.
