Oh, Jannie ... what heavy loads to carry, one being enough to cause one to be very troubled, but they're all coming at once.

I send good thoughts to you, and hopes that things may work out as well as may be possible, given the circumstances. May you find a way/ways to carry you through each of the crises in turn with peace in your heart and the certainty that you'll be able to make it through, intact.

Prayers for you and your family. Go ahead and cry. It does help. Then start asking/calling around about in home health care for your DH. The doctor can order it and there are some great groups out there. They will do OT, PT help with baths etc.

Adding my prayers. I agree with Charlee about the in-home health care. Even if you can't get full time help, you may be able to get a few hours a day.

Jannie, I think if they send him home from rehab, after 3 days he can be admitted back to the hospital talk to his Doctor. Then he can get another stay at rehab. That is what I was told.

I'd get Meals on Wheels ordered if you can. Lots of Teens are doing Community Service through their Church or School. She if there is someone who can shovel the snow for you.

He should qualify for Therapy at Home. Home Health came and bathed Mom until I learned how. My Mom weighed 190 and they taught me how to lift her to her wheel chair.

I also got a Alert Button Necklace for Mom. I was also caring for my Brother at the same time.

You can do this. Don't refuse help. Mom's friends volunteered to sit with her for a hour or so for me to run errands.

I called the Hospital for informatiom on Home Help Sitters. They are expensive, but I had to use them at times. I found a High School Girl who wanted to go into Health Field and she was Mom's best helper.

Sounds like you are getting great advice, so I will just keep you and your family in my prayers. I can't imagine how you feel, but I can certainly pray for you! I hope you can find peace and strength to deal with this monumental task ahead of you. I hope you have family and friends that can help.

Jannie, come sit over here by me and I'll cry with you. Good Lord, you sure are a lot stronger person than I am. I would've wilted by the dialysis alone, but to have so many things just doesn't seem fair. I hope things work out for your husband. I know you probably don't want to think about this, but you may have to start thinking about nursing homes. I'm sorry about your mother, too. I'm praying for strength for you, dear.

Wow, so many crosses to bear at once. You need to cry and get it all out and perhaps a drink or two if allowed. Then you need to find help. You have to take care of yourself. Do what you can, when you can and don't beat yourself up over something that might not get done. I pray you get a break or at least help dealing with all this.

Besides what is posted, check the MS Society for help. Also check the hospital social service person. Cannot remember how old all that need help are, but check with your council on aging or any senior citizen group. Some hospitals have a hospice unit/room in the hospital for those who need it--so do some nursing homes. Places to check out beside a phone book are newspapers and magazines, especially those geared to seniors. Not ads, though they can give you ideas.

PS. A daily journal might help you. Put down good/unhappy thoughts each day with a Bible verse. Not much, just a quick thought.

OMG...I went through the same thing. My DH in bed for 9 months after surgery, my brother passed with emphesyma,1 Dear Sister passed from cancer, another Sister passed from
Crohn's disease, A brother-in-law passed after heart trouble, An Aunt and Uncle passed within 10 days of each other with diabeties. This all happened within a 6 month
period. I had to be strong for my DH. He needed me and the others were in God's hands.
I cried and cried but not near DH. God never gave me more than I could handle. Cry as much as you want, it is a way
of healing and brings you comfort.

I am so sorry to hear about your DH and your mom.
I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.
Please contact the social worker at the rehab place and tell her your concerns.
Also talk to the discharge planner and tell them you are on dialysis and are feeling overwhelmed.

My gosh Jannie, what a lot to get through! A good cry will actually help relieve some stress, so if you feel like it let go! Don't be afraid to ask for help! The rehab center should be able to give you info. Your DH needs you once he gets home so don't over do. There are lots of teenagers out there that can shovel snow or do odd jobs. Ask around where you live or call a local high school and speak with the guidance dept.

Thanks everyone for your responses, advice, support and hugs. I have met the social worker, she has a meeting with everyone planned for next Friday, a week from tomorrow. Then Vic will be dscharged Jan 26, that's his last day. I am pretty sure he will get some form of home aide to help out. And maybe they can train me to get him from bed to wheelchair, etc. I am willing to learn. I watched one nurses aide give him a sponge bath. I could do that. and I've already been doing all the shopping and cooking. Oh and I'm taking it easy on the shovelling. My neighbor has a snowblower and did 90% for me. Today I just applied some rock salt and scraped up the slushy parts of my sidewalk. The roads are all pretty well plowed around here. I plan to visit my Mom in a couple of weeks. So I'm okay for now. My 22 year old daughter still lives home so I'm not totally alone. I also have my dog Molly for companionship.

So much good advice here at the KT, so I will just add my HUGS and special thoughts that you continue to have the strength to get through this. Take time each day to make a special memory. (((((HUGS))))) Nanny

Woke up Friday morning (today) feeling much better. I guess I'm very lucky, the first year I was getting dialysis I had a lot of problems, an awful lot of fatigue. I would come home and take a five hour nap. Plus bad pain in the arm where my dialysis fistula is located. Somehow my body has adjusted to dialysis and I now feel pretty good between treatments. I am worried so about my Mother. I've had her all my life, for 58 years. She's always been there to listen or visit with. I know my siblings are taking good care of her, she is home in her own house. I hope she'll have a gentle passing. And I am certain she will meet up with my Dad, her beloved "Fran". She was the only one who called him that. His real name was Francis, everyone else called him "Frank." And with Vic, I will rely on the Social Worker for whatever help is available. I did call the MS Society, I got a pleasant but pretty clueless woiman. She told me to call his main neurologist, who happens to be on vacation. I will try calling MS ssoc next week.

Wow, wow, I feel so badly for you, Jannie. From what you wrote this morning it sounds like you've gotten yourself together and have worked out a plan--I sooooo admire you! I will surely keep you and your loved ones in my prayers. (I hope you know how to be a squeaky wheel when it comes to requesting help. Nowadays, you pretty much have to be that way.)
