First time TaxAct user with a dumb question. I got halfway through the filing form but got concerned about a question. If I'm retired, I don't answer "Yes" to the question "Did you earn any wages or income in 2011" right? I wasn't sure so continued further until it said I was nearly finished but it still did not list my "Adjusted Gross Income" for 2011 anywhere as if I should have given it to them at some point. Am I making sense? Is there a separate section for retirees?

I signed out and apparently it's saving what I've completed so far. Ugh. I failed to find any topics in the help section that answered me with any satisfaction. It says emailing questions is an option but I couldn't find an address.

I believe that if you had any income, including pension, interest, Social Security, etc., that you should answer "yes." It should then ask additional questions about the type of income.

Or are you homeless, living off the food bank?

For a satin, that is pretty low-gloss for a fresh coat. I'm more familiar with Loba's satin and they are much shinier then yours. I would let them be for a week and then view them once more before you move back in. If you are still SUPER UPSET by the gloss level, then pay the cost to have another coat added and you sleep elsewhere for another week. And remember: do NOT lay area rugs for at least 4 weeks. And preferably for 6 months. Wood will do a little bit of colour change after a sand/refinish. You want to ensure everything changes in the same way. Personally, I would be happy with this gloss level with any satin at any time. Considering this is fresh, I think you have a very good satin about to show up. Just give it a week and then see how you feel.

My favorite ones were purchased at a discount store, they have a needlepoint texture, and are mostly black with a big, jolly snowman wearing a red hat and a green scarf. Needless to say, they are not used everyday, but I love getting them out each year. They make me smile. And, they are indestructible. We have one set of Chilewich, which are handy dandy but boring. We have an old, old set of woven ones, from PB, I think. They need to be repurposed, I am no longer enjoying them as placemats as they are so faded and also brown. Last year I bought these from Spoonflower. And they make my heart go pit-a-pat, but they stain easily. It could be my fault. They offered a choice of three fabrics, linen cotton blend, cotton sateen, and cotton canvas. I chose the cotton canvas, I dont know if that is the problem.

Well, I guess I panicked. A friend emailed me that there is a question in regards to retirement income - 1099R - and that I just hadn't come to it yet or something. She's going to get on the phone and walk me through it. Since this is the first time I've done this, I think that's best. ha. Thanks silverdove.

ole joyful, I'm one of the lucky ones who got to retire at an early age. Cant' say I'm rich, but I'm comfortable.

I was so determined to do it myself, I didn't wait for my friend and was able to get through the whole process. Found where the 1099R info was required, finally, after three attempts. After that it was very easy, they even have an "Alerts" option that will go back check all the data you entered for errors. The only error they found was my bank routing number had too many digits. At least I HOPE that was the only error,as there was some questions I didn't thoroughly understand. I got an email shortly afterwards that the IRS has accepted the Fed. return, now waiting on acceptance of the State.

I think the key word here is *earn*. Did you EARN wages/income? If so you should have a W-2 forms. I suspect the answer to your question is "No", if your income is SS &/or pensions. Dividends or interest likewise are not "earned income".

Exactly beeohio! The question is did you EARN income. If you didn't go to work and EARN income, then of course, the answer is "No".

They aren't asking about SS or pensions.

Wrong, again - different kinds of income are to be reported in different places ... and this was about income by the sweat of one's brow, so to speak ...

... not including pensions.

Or interest or dividends - should one call them "earned" income? Not in that location, apparently: each poison to its own bottle.
