Has anyone tried this? I absolutely love it. We're going to Hawaii soon and I think it's what I'm most excited about! Just wondering if any of you enjoy it and how you've had it prepared.
Don't know anything about breadfruit... other than from several versions of "Mutiny on the Bounty". Seems Capt. Blight was obsessed with getting plants and took it out on his crew?!? WIll check back to see what else pops up.
Klseiverd, that's very interesting! Will have to read that book. I had it at the Polynesian Cultural Center when I was a child and fell in love with the bready, potato-y flavor. I went back a few years ago and had to really search for it, it's not sold in typical grocery stores, but I finally found some at a farmers market. It was every bit as good as I remembered, but I'd like to go beyond roasting and try something more creative this time. And maybe try it's relatives the breadnut and jackfruit, too! Lalitha, do you remember how it was prepared?
My friend in the tropics makes breadfruit poi when he is invited to a Samoan umu gathering. He is asked to make that as his contribution. The children love it. He uses a poi pounder.
Barnmom, how neat is that?! Dcarch and Lalitha, I really do wonder how you had it prepared. The first time I had it was when I was very young and staunchly anti-vegetable. I was so surprised at how much I loved it. Joann, I've heard they can get as big as a human head!
