cold here and rainy with snow mixed in... :(

i remember about 25 years ago when we lived in no va and we had a veteran's day 'blizzard'!! loved the weather there, but we did get some really big snow storms over the years there!!

Big wet snow outside of Philadelphia, too. Ugh. I drove home from Corning NY a couple days ago through a snowstorm in the higher elevations. It was horrible. I don't expect to see any snow until mid-December and would be happy to never see it at all. Blech.

The only thing I hate more than snow is really high humidity!

Not supposed to happen just north of NYC either, but it's COMING!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhhh!

Yep DS1 in Lexington VA called last night at 11 PM and said the rain had just changed to light snow....

Fairfax has just dreary rain. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I'd trade that for an hour or two of pretty flakes. THEN the snow must go! I am not going into winter without a fight!

(A few years ago we did get snow on April Fool's Day, tho!)

Here in Southeastern VA it's very gray, rainy and chilly, but no snowfall! Supposed to be in the low 60's all next week. Tommorrow they promise sunshine with a high of 57.

LOL - I live in central Alberta (way up here in the great white north!), and while we've been having heavy frost for a while, so far no snow, with none in the forecast.

I remember trick or treating with my baby brother one year (probably 25 years ago - he would have been about 5 or 6), and having him cry because the snow drifts were almost as tall as he was! Our Halloween forecast is for just around freezing, which is pretty mild by our standards!

Cold rain in Alexandria, too. Being a snow lover, I am jealous of you, Orchid. I loved the 58 inches we got a couple of winters ago! Still, snow over fallen leaves is a bother, so maybe this is best. I have been moving furniture around and drying off the pups since they still want to go out if they see a squirrel at one of the feeders!

Central NJ -- already at least 2 inches on the ground and still coming down hard. This is ridiculous!!!!! It's not even November. I hate cold. I am so not ready for this.

And my DS is supposed to play 2 baseball games tomorrow. That will be fun. NOT!

I'm in eastern PA.

We have at least 6 inches and they are calling for 10+. I was without power for the last 3+ hours. Tree limbs are down all over the place - heavy, wet snow on branches still full of leaves. My magnolia has lost many branches & I hope it doesn't kill it. I've been out 3x shaking the snow off my Japanese dogwood. It's bent almost in half but no breaks yet. What a mess and a hassle. It's October for heaven's sake! The kids were trick or treating last night and they'll be shoveling tomorrow. Good thing they have all the candy to keep them powered up.

I hate winter and it isn't even winter yet.

About 5-7 inches here north of Philly so far (Bucks Cty if anyone's local). It's very wet and icy. My larger trees are a mess, most of them still have their leaves and the leaves hold the snow and ice and the weight has forced their boughs very low to the ground. I sent the kids out to hit them with brooms but they can only reach the lowest parts and it's still coming down so hard that it only helps for a little while. I can deal with all the other messes, the fall roses are clearly done for, but they'll bounce back next year and develop new growth so it's not as dire. I'm having a hard time grasping that it's already winter but mostly I'm terribly worried for my trees. It's still coming down...

Rain, sleet, ice, and snow--with leaves still on the trees! So strange, but beautiful.

Central NJ here. The tree we were worried about losing in Irene, now lays across my yard. But of course I am at work, and will not be going anywhere anytime soon. Roads are awful!
Hope it is all gone for trick or treating Monday.

We have several inches of snow and the darn power is out AGAIN! We were out for three days after Irene. There are trees down everywhere. I keep hearing them snap in the woods behind our house. I'm praying that none land on our roof!

This past year's weather has been the wierdest.

I feel for y'all. Snow is not fun in October. Even November is pushing it.

Still coming down outside of Philadelphia. I knocked it off my new schip laurels. They were starting to bend waaaayy over. The roses are are bent over, but they will come back. I was hoping to enjoy the garden for another week or two but it is pretty well destroyed for this season. I hate snow.

Here in Herndon at the border of Loudoun, it started snow, turned to a sleety freezing rain, then back to snow. Got about 2" accumulation (luckily was melting as it hit on a lot of surfaces) and the worst on the road was slush - unitl it freezes to ice tonight (hearing the sirens in the distance when I take the dogs out, so Im guessing it's ice now.)

So sorry, all north of me, for the damage to your gardens and power outages. That's the pits, especially this early in the year! I hope Ma Nature hasn't bought into the retailers' focus on pushing the seasons!

I got lucky - got my remaining orchids in before they became a sludgy green mess (the cyms better bloom this year, they've certainly had a good chilling period!) - but my fall rose blooms are history, several bushes deformed, etc. Here I thought I had several weeks to put the garden to rest, and then this! My DD in WI thinks it's creepy that we got snow before she did - I agree.

I hope all are safe, warm and damage-free throughout this unseasonable storm and it's aftermath!

It was sunny and close to 90F (no humidity of course!) here in CA ... but don't hate me ... I used to live in the northeast not too long ago and know exactly what cold and snow feel like. I don't miss it!

There was interesting video of the White House this afternoon on TV -- beautiful green lawn, a tree in the foreground with beautiful orange leaves. And snow coming down. Lovely but freaky at the same time!

I heard a couple states were declaring "States of Emergency"....CT?!? I hate to see trees goin' down because of snow events.
I hope it's gone so the kids can have a decent Halloween!!!

Here, it's cool & beautiful! Was 25 this a.m. when I left for work! Monday/Halloween here is s'posed to be nice...maybe 60 for a high?!?!

Faron, it's called climate change.

My beautiful English Hawthornes are severely damaged. The weight of the snow on top of a bumper crop of seasonal fruits snapped many limbs off at the trunk. The trees are 15 years old and encircle a small pond on our property. They break out with fragrant white blooms every spring and berries in the fall and have a wide tulip shaped branching pattern that make the pond look like a Japanese print. We will have to cut the broken branches back at the trunk and hope for the best I guess. Kind of a drag. Have been unable to assess all the damage yet.

Cooler than usual here in SoCal- 60's. And we're not having much of the hot, dry, fire-spreading winds (santa ana's) that we usually get this time of year.

Probably a lot of GWers are affected by the power outages in the east!

One of my sisters lives across town. She is still without power and was told it might be Tuesday until it is restored!

I thought being w/o power for 3+ daylight hours was a hardship. She's sleeping over tonight so that she can have heat and a hot shower before work tomorrow.

She isn't even sure she'll have work tomorrow because the area where she works is also having major power outage problems from downed trees. She's a teacher and they have already missed days because of Hurricane Irene. I suspect the school year will get extended into late June with all these freaky weather issues.

Today while I shoveled the driveway - in October!! - the sound of chain saws filled the air as people were clearing up all the trees.

Well the outcome for my town....school cancelled today for the second time. All the halloween festivities were cancelled for the kids that were supposed to take place on Sunday with the town and at school. The town looks like a war zone. Trees down everywhere and power lines down with them. We were allowed to trick or treat yesterday, some towns postponed. Honestly, I would've preferred to postpone till Friday. It was pretty scary walking around with the downed power lines and slushy sidewalks. We only did 2 blocks with the kids.

At this point the schools have been closed 4 days already for Irene and this storm. We will no longer have a Spring Break, just an extended 4 day weekend.
