The wall color is SW Flower Pot, which appears a bit more brickish red in realy life. The countertop is Vela Brown Zodiaq quartz, by DuPont. We really like it.

Generally, I'm not one who admires darker tones of oranges in a kitchen, but against your white cabinets it looks fabulous as it gives the kitchen more depth. The dark island brings the kitchen to life as well.

Okay - details . . . the backsplash 3" x 6" ceramic bricks are imported from an Italian company. They are listed as "Astor" and the color is caracalla. Sorry that I don't have more details on this. The smaller bricks over the range are from Old World Stone Imports in a chocolate color. They are real, natural stone.

The cabinets are custom made, painted antique white, and then glazed with a deep brown.

The walls really are red, not orange, and I confess it was quite scary to place a black island in the middle of everything, but now I'm really happy with it. The island countertop is quartz (Zodiaq), and the rest of the kitchen is Formica's Burnished Glaze.

The fixtures are all oil-rubbed bronze, but the island has more coppery ones. We wanted the island to look like a separate piece of furniture. The lighting is by Murray Feiss and Lt. Moses Willard. The floors are maple (second grade for variation), clear sealed with a satin finish. The appliances are bisque to blend in with the cabinets. And, the kitchen sink is ceramic.

The three recycle bins we have are indeed located in the two lower cabinets to the left of the sink. I love, love, love them.

Jan, your kitchen is stunning! Everything about it is just gorgeous! Our layout is similar - would you mind giving me the dimensions of your island. It looks like it seats 3 comfortably, with lots of room for the stools.

Thanks so much. The island is 6' x 3', and the stools are either 14" or 15" square, I believe. Three can definitely sit comfortably, and my boys eat there all the time. We really like it. In the early stages, we debated an island vs. peninsula, but I really like the island much better. We had a peninsula in our previous home, but it seems like this kitchen flows much better, and the work space is right there where you need it.

Californiadreamer - Well, here's the big question, if you are originally from Wisconsin, are you still a Packer fan? Once a cheesehead, always a cheesehead? Go Pack!!! :o)

Am I a packer fan? Of course! :) And whenever I'm back there I make sure to get some cheese curds and go to a Friday night fish fry. There are just some things you can not get on the West coast!

Gardenwebber, the layout is working great. I'm not sure if it is clear in the pictures or not, but the island is not in front of the refrigerator, blocking the pathway at all. I think that is important. We also chose not to have a prep sink in the island in order to preserve the countertop workspace. It works well also because most of the food prep is done on the end of the island by the range, which doesn't disturb anyone who happens to be sitting at the other end of the island or by the dining table.

Absolutely lovely! The view out the doors is very familiar, we live in West Central MN--same color ground! Where in WI? I have a son and DIL in DePere.

katieb, I'm sure you can relate to the winter wonderland. We live approximately 20 minutes north of Green Bay, so not far at all from DePere. It's a small world, for sure.

how gorgeous - I love your paint color! We did something similar in another room in our house. And I love your backsplash tiles also - they're exactly what I'm looking for! (But imported from italy - that sounds $$$? we're at the cost-cutting point now...) it's just beautiful.

November, yes, the backsplash bricks were imported, but we still purchased them through a regular tile and stone gallery store in town. The entire backsplash (including installation) cost around $700.
