A/C versus Heatpump

I am getting quotes for A/C and a Trane dealer suggested that I look at a heatpump. I live in Seattle and the temps are a more mild than other regions.

Anyway, a Bryant dealer wouldn't give me a quote for a heat pump because he said it would be too expensive. He said it would be at least $2000 more than A/C. A Trane dealer gave me quote for a heatpump which was $1000 more than the A/C unit. Both are 14 seer 3 ton units.

Is there a reason Bryant is so much more?

Also is there anything that needs to be done to my furnace for a heatpump? The Trane dealer didn't mention anything but curious why he might be lower and what questions I should be asking.
