Mastic for leaky ducts?

Hi -

My ductwork is about 55yrs old and fiberglass. It seems back in the 60s, tape was used to seal openings in the ductwork where a vent was added for a room. During a recent kitchen remodel I had to shorten the length (raised the ceiling so I cut off 12" of duct) and I also removed some of the tape. I need to repair the seams as now the duct is hardly putting out air.

Long story short: Someone told me to use Mastic around the seams as they produce a product meant for HVAC ducts. Any advice?
