who knew back of faucet would be so important??

Hi, our new countertop will be all one level (2-level now) and so if you are in the family room or sitting at the new counter, will see the back of facucet

am seeking pix of faucets that show from the back ,looking toward the sink

and re style - kitchen is traditional -will be white cabinets, soapstone, white undermount sink, stainless, hardwood floors.

When you stand at sink, you can see into casualseating space on other side of counter, and then into the family room which is just 2 steps down from the casual seating space.

Well, I don't have any pics, but I will say that I also went through this. I have a ~8" ledge behind my sink, and the LR is on the other side.

What was important to me was to minimize it as much as possible (the faucet.) I didn't want to always be looking at the back of the faucet while in the LR. So I quickly crossed off my list of possibilities any faucets that were very tall. Unfortunately as you probably know, the trend in faucets right now is to make them quite tall, high arced. I actually did find the perfect one, from HansGrohe, which only extends about 2" higher than the ledge. It's perfect for my space, but probably too modern for yours.

If you dig around web sites you can usually find the specs with dimensions. Sometimes you need to go look on the manufacturer's site.

It may not be important to you to have it short, though... it was to me. In any case if you narrow your choices down to a few, maybe you can post those here and ask people for photos?

What kind of fireplace will you be using them in? Direct vent? Unvented? Traditional fireplace with gas insert? I ask b/c I think different ceramic logs are made for different kinds of fireplaces and I'm not sure what happens if you try to use them in the wrong kind. Definitely NOT an expert on this tho. We're putting a direct vent from Fireplace Xtraoridinaire in our new home - mainly b/c, while I love the look of a real fireplace, years ago we spent 3 year living in Maine doing all our heating with a wood stove and I learned to HATE the critters that come into the house with every load of real wood! But, back to your question. Ceramic log sets for direct vent ARE pretty pricey and the more realistic they look the more they cost. But, I figured I would never need to replace them so as a one-time expense, the cost wasn't too bad. If you go to www.nextag.com and run a search on "ceramic fireplace log" and limit the results to those under $250, you may find something that will fit your needs. Alternatively, you might try craigslist. Someone might have decided to upgrade their ceramic logs to a nicer set and be selling the old ones. Hope this helps.

I love sashimi and sushi and found a wonderful recipe that layers the sushi in a dish, then is cut into squares for serving. Since no one I know is a sushi chef, I don't have to follow the time honored method of making those rolls, tediously. "Want it now"! The only problem is that I don't know which dashi it calls for in this recipe. It just says "dashi", so I leave it out, but would love to know which kind of dashi I should be using: katsuo (bonito flakes), kombu (kelp), or niboshi (dried anchovies or sardines). Or maybe using dried shrimp (ebi). That is easy enough to find in grocery stores in the Spanish/Mexican foods section, where the others warrant a trip to Whole Foods or Asian Market (30 miles either one). Perhaps someone here knows more about sushi-making and can help me out for an authentic flavor for this sushi? And, though I do not like hot spicy foods (karasugiru/picante), I adore wasabi. I bought some fresh eggs the other day. Those store eggshells are so thin. I tried to gently crack the fresh egg....it bounced ... no crack. I had to tap it pretty hard to get it open. Those huge companies with thousands of chickens evidently don't give their chickens what they need to make harder shells. I love looking at your chickens, but hated ours while growing up. We had to do the "stinky chicken dunk" in boiling water when I was young. My sister put socks over her hands to pull feathers off. Still have a hard time smelling chicken that is boiling on the stove. Of course we didn't have pretty chickens like you do.

The faucet you linked is made by Elements of Design (signature hardware likes to rename their products so you can't comparison shop...) I believe it's considered good mid range quality solid brass/ceramic disc valves and would be comparable to Chicago Faucets quality. (I'm NOT an expert in these things, just repeating what I learned from the plumber and my guy at the hardware store.) And I agree with dianolo-I wouldn't worry about flow rate/water pressure, and I also agree that this is somewhere it makes sense to spend if you can to make sure you get something that will not need to be replaced in a couple years. I've heard many excellent reports about those Chicago Faucets, but not much about the EoD faucets. I'm linking some EoD faucets below-I have NEVER shopped with this vendor and am not recommending-but I spotted your faucet here and thought you might be interested in seeing the other models and prices. I think if you get a nice faucet it will act m ore as "counter jewelry" and will add some interest to the island (I'm assuming an island b/c of your description).

We have the Kohler Vinnata...I don't have a view of the back, but I like the whole look...stem included. The back really looks the same as the front except you don't have the faucet head in front.

Use the web to narrow your search and find a showroom through your plumber to see some product.

My island prep sink is seen from the family room and my peninsula clean up sink is seen from one of the dining areas as my space lacks walls. Neither are installed yet but I chose the Delta Allora and I consider my style to be transitional. I am thinking of it as counter jewerly and upgraded to a brushed stainless finish. I went to a showroom after I'd narrowed it down to two styles. I could walk around the counter display 360* so I saw each from every angle. I am replacing the head on the prep sink faucet so it toggles to a spray but even with that upgrade it was less then my other choice and easily serviced in my area.
