dotmom- I'm the same way - I sort of close my eyes and brace myself when I pop the can.

That is funny and I'd better get up and look in my fridge door where my bisquits have been stored. Talk about Shelf "life" they weren't kidding!!

I like buying them when getting ready to go to the camp ground on my bike tours. They are great for cooking at/near a camp fire.

I've never had a can burst on me like that. There have been times when I had to throw them out because they were way way beyond expiration date but thank goodness they never exploded. Hope you find the top to the can. It would be interesting to know how much beyond expiration they were.

I always have that slight dread when I know the pop is coming. And sometimes it is difficult to find that little seam that is supposed to be the opening.

Several years ago there was a funny post here about someone driving home from the grocery store and the biscuit can popped and really scared her.

I heard someone thought they had been shot in the back of the head by exploding biscuits. She felt the back of her head and thought the gooey dough was her brain, and she called 911.

Yes, that was a funny "story" than ran around the web awhile back. Very funny. Nanny, who always has those "ready to pop" biscuits in the fridge.

I buy the Pillsbury frozen buttermilk biscuits. Like to be able to just bake TWO.

I always open the can underneath a dish towel on my counter and hold my breath and lean back and stretch my arms as far as I can and squint my eyes waiting for the explosion. DD cracked up the other day watching me.

I'm always scared to open those too. haha

I remember maybe years ago a post abut things that scare you. So many people mention the pop noise from the biscuits! I think its kind of cool.

Now I know why I make my own using Bisquick.

Wonder what caused them to explode??? reminds me of the joke about the women who was driving along and a can of biscuits exploded in her grocery sack and she thought she'd been shot...

I went thru about 28 cans of bicuits over Christmas making monkey bread...I'm sick of it now...at least for awhile...

I don't bother with the canned, refrigerated biscuits since I tried the frozen ones--they're SO much better, and as someone else said, it's nice to be able to bake only as many as you need. No waste or extra 'waiste' that way! I belong to a food group where we sometimes taste test various products--have been trying to talk them into doing biscuits (homemade, refrigerated, mix, frozen, etc) for our next experiment.

I've had it happen more than once but it's always on old ones. And for the ones that are close to the can date, they often pop as I'm tearing off the outside wrapper. My guess is that it's similar to a fermenting going on there building up pressure.

That could blow your eye out,I opened a can of campbells soup it was spoiled I guess just as I pulled the tab the lid blew off slambed my 2 fingers it hurt so bad I thought it cut my finger off.
no I used a can last week for my pot pie had 3 left over, got them out next night they were done..//couldnt use them and they were in a baggie

At least I wasn't at the scene when the biscuits went POOF! Don't need any more eye problems.

Actually it wasn't messy. The biscuits were dry, no moisture; maybe an indication of how long they had been there? I still haven't found the top. Guess I will have to take everything out of the fridge to find it. Makes my back hurt just to think about it. If, and when, I find it I'll post an Alert!

I have bought the frozen biscuits but don't really want to heat up the oven just to bake one, and I would only eat one at a meal. I bought this can of biscuits to make Pineapple Upside Down Biscuits, and just hadn't gotten around to it. So much for procrastinating.

Interesting to hear how the pop is so startling. Didn't these cans use to have a pull string thingy, or a cut in the wrapper to start pulling with? You can tell I don't buy them often.
