Hi Stacey,

We bought a 36" Capitol Precision Range with 6 high BTU sealed burners, rotisserie and self clean. Oven door does not get hot, which is a concern for some people with small children.

I love my stove. This is a pretty new company; its owners were at DCS years ago. If you want more info perhaps you should post in the Garden Web Appliance forum; just type in "Capital" as I'm sure there would be reviews there.

Thanks, clax66. I did post on the appliances forum, too. There are LOTS of American owners over there, not too many Capital. This is one of their first models (Performance Series) now discontinued.

Did you need to do a long burn-in? I read about some American Range owners who had to do several days worth to get rid of the smells...

We're cooking on LPG and this model has four identical burners, all 15,000k. What does yours have?

I have the newer 5-burner 30" precision model with 4 19,000 btu burners and one 25,000 btu wok burner. I'm using lpg as well, so there is some loss of of power but I don't know how much. There was a thread last summer where someone discussed the differences between the Precision and Performance models, I'll look for it.

I had no burn-in time to get rid of smells, just ftr. American 30".

idrive -I could be wrong - there are many people here who know a lot more than me about ranges - I know that when I ordered my Capital is was specifically for LP. I think the only time you lose power is when you convert a natural gas range to LP.

In any event, OP is referring to the older Capital Performance. I saw it and didn't like it. 15K burners and just didn't have a finish I liked. On the other hand I LOVE my Precision and I think it' s the prettiest one out there. I also had no burn off issues.

Coleen, what about the finish didn't you like?? We're going to drive down (2+ hours) to see the range tomorrow. Our second choice is the American 30" which we would have to buy sight-unseen since there are NONE in New England right now. So we wouldn't be able to compare then in real life. The Precision, unfortunately, is out of our price range...

Stacy, if the Performance has lower BTUs than the Precision, I'd steer clear. I wouldn't want less power. People speak very highly of the American ranges on the appliances forum. You might call Eurostoves in Mass and see if they have a model you can look at. I've never been there but have seen posts from many happy customers.

I purchased a 36" Capital Precision Range in 2009 with four burners and a griddle for my home in Canada and have had nothing but problems with the unit from the very start. I ordered a propane gas range through Direct Buy. I did not know this but they delivered one that had been converted from natural gas to propane gas. The flames burned too high and with lots of yellow instead of all blue flame. It turned my beautiful new stainless steel pots black. After spending months in limbo caught up in a tug of war of between Capital Cooking and their Canadian distributor as to who should be responsible for the repair, they agreed to send someone out to look at the problem. Apparently, the distributor, Integrated Appliance of Toronto, ON, did not do the conversion properly and they after much back and forth finally agreed to pay for the repair. However to add insult to injury, I ended up getting charged for the repair and it took over 6 months to get reimbursement! The problem is, although a service provider supposedly "fixed" the problem, in reality the problem still remains.
The other MAJOR problem I had with this range is that none of the ranges burn at a low simmer - as per the manufacturer's claim. It boils EVERYTHING!
I have had this range for a year and a half and am still trying to get the simple satisfaction of having Capital provide the range that they promise in their advertising rather than one with uncontrollable, scorching burners.
When I send correspondence to Capital and Integrated they do not respond for months and I only receive a response after multiple emails. Today I was told by Capital that it is the responsibility of the distributor, Integrated to fix the problem. It is truly upsetting that Capital is simply passing the buck and not standing behind their supposedly "quality" product. Integrated, in turn, wrote me an email stating that the problem persists due to the remoteness of my home. So BEWARE friends - don't purchase a Capital Range distributed by Integrated Appliance if you live in the country! "Precision"?? What a joke!
