36 inch cooktop over 30 inch oven
Comments (8)I have a 36" cooktop over a 27" oven. The oven isn't actually in a cabinet proper: it sits on the plywood base built by my GC for all the cabinets, and then he created a face panel, with the appropriate size hole for the oven, and had it sprayed to match my cabinets. There's a fair bit of panel on either side of the oven, but I really don't mind: I didn't want those spice pull-outs, and wondered about making a couple of 3" tray slots, but realised the space needed internally for the hinges would make it pretty awkward to use, and I decided that offsetting the oven and getting 6" for a cabinet would look strange (in MY kitchen - that's a personal thing). So, I'm happy with my panels. I got my tray cabinet in another place in the end. I think you have to decide for yourself whether you want/need symmetry on that wall, or whether you can live without using that space for anything. In my case, it also means any subsequent owner can opt for a larger oven if they want to....See MorePics of a 30' sink in a 36' sink base? Farmhouse style?

Comments (5)We have a center drain with an 18" trash and recycling setup underneath it. Initially thought we would need a side rear drain, but it worked! What makes it feasible is the lack of a disposal, so if you don't plan to have one, you might be able to pull it off. It really depends on whether you can fit all of the rest of your under-sink gear on one side of the sink (minus a bit in the middle for plumbing). We don't have any of those, so not sure how much space they take. If you're doing two half-depth bins side by side (on both sides of the sink) it might also be different--ours are two front-to-back so they take up 100% of the space on one side but nothing on the other....See More36 inch range or 30 inch range and spice rack drawer?
Comments (17)I would start with what you're accustomed to cooking on/with now: Have you been cooking on a 30 and always wished you had a larger cooking surface? Have you been using a 36 all these years and find you actually don't use one or two burners (or whatever the differential between 30 and 36 is)? If you've been using a 36, is it a good tradeoff to lose a burner for the sake of gaining countertop space and the spice rack? Good advice. I cook every day. Ambitious recipes, large quantities, lots of baking, the whole 9 yards, but it's quite rare that I say to myself, "I wish I had a larger cooking space and/or a second oven". It's just not something that I really need or want. However, I own more kitchen goods than a Williams Sonoma store, so that bit of extra storage space would be more than welcome. I wouldn't go with a spice pull-out though. You don't want to store spices by the heat of the stove, and those things are fairly expensive for the small storage they provide -- I vote for a slightly wider upper instead....See More- 15 years ago
