I think so many of the trashy reality shows that exhibit such bad behavior could also be contributing to some of society's rudeness.

I too find it so hard to watch 'talk' or even news shows where they interrupt or talk (louder) over one another.

I notice that a lot on TV. I really like "Morning Joe" on MSNBC, but he constantly interrupts Mika--and everyone else with his ranting and raving. I don't know WHY I like that show. Same with Chris Matthews in the evening on the same channel. It's so irritating.

Agreed! It is hardly worth trying to watch some shows. What is the point when you can't understand what any one is saying?

I was taught when I was very young not to interrupt.

TV is getting worse everyday in a lot of ways. Some of the so-called comedy shows are just plain stupid. And of course there is all that background noise/music.

I was asked recently if I had to give up my computer or my TV, which would I choose.

In a heartbeat, I would give up the TV.

And almost all the political talking heads. Yes, life imitates media constantly. We humans are very good at mimicking, even when we don't realize we're doing it. Working up a good head of steam used to be a good way to grab attention, positive or negative. It's a huge turn-off to me.

I watched The View one time. I couldn't take the constantly interrupting, all talking at once, and they are loud trying to talk over the other.

I do it, and try to catch myself. I tend to speak, before I forget what I want to say!

I too don't watch many shows because the people just talk and yak yak yak and say nothing. We have a show on a station from Grand Forks area with Heikamp and I enjoy that. He almost always lets the person finish talking UNLESS he/she appears to get out of hand and then he either stops them, or cuts them off, which is very seldom. Yes he has his own opinions, but will listen to others. This is on the radio. Almost never watch daytime TV unless i am really bored and snowed it. But people are really getting bad.

I'm like you Jas. That's going to be my new resolution. I don't mean to be rude but when I wait, I forget what I want to say. I'm going to try extra hard to keep mouth shut #1 and #2 try not to forget what I want to say.

I find it hard to keep from interrupting when someone is stating something incorrectly. Sometimes the specifics of something really matters and/or changes the meaning. My DH has a habit of not getting the details right when relating something.

redcurls - my husband has the same problem - yet he is the one who interrupts me to set the story straight - but he is always wrong!

Yup i see this all over the place.My own sister is guilty of this.She lives in N.Y.State,and i in S.Ca. I finally couldn't take it anymore so one day while trying to talk to her she interrupted me one too many times,so i finally,cleared my throat",Ahem"to get her attention ,then i said,i don't know if you are aware of this,but you never let me finish a sentence,you keep interrupting me,if i'm hurting your feelings i apologize ,but this is driving me crazy!!! She replied with,i'm sorry,thanks for telling me,and i'll try to correct it.She did,and everytime she'd start ,i'd just say "AHEM"(clear voice.She does pretty good now.

I agree with Patti43 about Joe Scarborough constantly interrupting, even when he has asked the question, but Mika does try to rope him in!! That said, the regulars on that program, as well as the well-rounded guests and differing opinions make it a worthwhile, informative show to watch, which we do, almost daily.

I don't watch Joe, but sometimes Chris Matthews drives me nuts.I have a friend who does this. I never corrected her...I just stopped phone conversations and email now if I need to tell her something.

After starting to watch The "Spew" a time or two I was convinced I was sitting next to the chicken coup! cluck, cluck, cluck BA-WACK! All these supposed "talk shows" are pretty much the same. A buddy of mine used to be such a fan of Morton Downey Jr. and we'd watch it at the lake but I kept turning it off. Every time someone said something he'd interrupt and I said that's it, off he goes. Caused more than one argument but I said bring your own TV and battery if you want to waste it on that garbage. (Oops, said the "g" word again! Oh well!)

I too like Marilyn Milian on People's Court. Down to earth, professional and doesn't rely on the tired schtick that "Judy" does. Plus her cases aren't always cell phone bills and child support. Methinks she'd also kick Judy's butt in a court confrontation too.

The other thing that I find almost amusing is how so many people think if they can't get their point across and convince/convert you, just talk louder! You *really* think that'll gain credibility? LOL

Yes, I think being rude is the new norm. Outrageous behavior, back stabbing, etc.
So many... screaming at the cooks on a cooking show, brides acting out, survival of the
meanest on reality shows, desperate b***** housewives.
No working together, trying to get along and help each other. Instead it's me first, the heck with everyone else.
Very disappointed in the TV norm my grandchildren get to see.

Inability to have concern for anyone but me ... and huge greed ...

... is a virus that's catching, I think.

If our countries are to survive anything like intact the difficult days ahead as our medium- to (much of the) high-level employment gets shifted overseas, we need to learn to work together, to co-operate, to help one another.

As we used to do before the greed-game became the new "norm"-al.

I prefer the "norm" in which we love and care for one another.

Oh yes, (redcurls and eccentric)) I have to agree. Although, I do not even have to be stating anything just talking in general about something which I saw or experienced and you'd think I was incapable of knowing right from wrong and I, at times, get lambasted for something and don't even bother to complete the thought I was talking about. Not sure what hubby's problem is?? but it is surely annoying. I find myself just stop talking when he interrupts and let him say what he has to say. Doesn't make me look bad but it sure does him if the facts he feels are necessary to talk over me are incorrect. It's especially gratifying when there are several other people around to witness it (LOLOL). The world is filled with nasty little narcissists, isn't it?

The sad thing is that this behavior on the shows is meant (and required!) to improve ratings--it's all pretty much fake. But there are those who believe all they see and feel free to emulate, whose children in turn, emulate. What a shame.

It's even that way with the s called experts on the Today Show, but I may be prejudiced because I really dislike Star Jones. She cannot keep her trap shut, when Dr. Nancy or Ronny Deutsch is speaking she is all over them.

It's so rude, I do however get a kick out of Judge Judy's solution to the problem, she tells them to turn off the offender's microphone! LOL!
