Michaels Coming - Should I Be Excited?

In our city we have three small yarn stores. Expensive. There is one fabric shop which also sells yarn. Then there is Walmart and Zellers. Now Michaels is coming and should be open soon. I am expecting a large variety of yarns and reasonable prices. Will I be mistaken?

You will find a big assortment and at a high end price. Some of them are comparable with the name brands found at Walmart.But I usually find those same brands for less at WM.

we have a michaels here in NJ and they are very reasonable. there are always coupons in the local paper for 40% off. they have everything except fabric.

Gee, I won't even try to figure out what my smaller Presto canner comes out to over a 40+ year life or my late mother's 22 qt. (two layer canning). I just know they didn't cost as much as the ones today, but have paid for themselves so many times over. I bought my sister a used, but like new 16 qt. Presto last year at a sale and am going to get her the weight pressure regulator this year. Also, if Fairfax probably has an Extension office that could regulate the guages that come on them today. Use to live in Fairfax, then Leesburg. Surely there's an Extension office somewhere nearby.

I live within driving distance of 4 TJ's and go to one about every week. I like to stop in and get a mini-cup of coffee and try whatever they are sampling. When we had our grocery employee strike a number of years ago, it was one of the few places we could shop without crossing a picket line. The staff is generally very friendly and helpful. Many of their prices are very reasonable (bread, peanut butter, milk). Some of the meat is higher than the grocery store, but it is better quality too. I would say only half of the produce is organic, and a lot of it is pre-packaged. Bread is well priced and a good variety. Cheese--imported is good but the stuff with their name on it isn't that good. Frozen veggies are good, especially that roasted corn. Cards are a buck and very nice; I like them better than any others because they are short and sweet. Oh, if you like peanuts, get the blister peanuts. Salads are inexpensive, easy to pick up for lunch and a wide variety. I'm not too crazy about their prepared foods (enchiladas, for example). Have fun, Glenda. You guys are so nice. Tami, good to know cat litter can be used like that. I almost always have a few small bags of it in the car -- only because I usually buy it in quantity and I tend to be lazy about unloading all of it. Kathleen, I was thinking about "cold feet" just this morning. I don't remember such resistance to change when I was young. This change--my new job--is definitely for the better. Not only do I need the money, but I'm aware that I also need more contact with people. Although I love the idea of living and writing in my old farmhouse, and do pretty well by myself, too much isolation isn't good for me. So you'd think I'd have no anxiety whatsoever about going back to work. Ha! Sad to say, I guess it's true that as we get older we find it harder to change our ways. Foggy, my son lives only four miles away, so I could call on him to take the dogs out. I could also call on him to come pull me out of a snowbank. :-)

I don't understand the pit bull thing either. There are so many wonderful breeds, why choose one that has a built-in crazy switch? I know they can be nice, but once set off, they can be killers. Why risk it? I also don't understand Vickers and people like him who get off on the violence and blood. And using a animal to fight your battles. It's hateful and I'm sorry his punishment isn't going to be more severe. I hope no one signs him, but if they do, I like the suggestion that the team be boycotted.

I love Michaels. They have a great variety of yarn and something is always on sale. Just yesteday they had Lion Brand Fun Fur for only $2.99. Just keep your eye out for bargains and you'll be very happyl =^..^=

Watch for the weekly coupon in your Sunday paper--I often just cut it out and keep it in my purse. Then if I am in the area, I stop in and buy one expensive, for me, skein of yarn at the 40% off--or a pattern book or needles or hooks. Eventually I have enough for the project I am planning.

They have lots of interesting yarn but not a great deal of basic "plain" yarn. They do not have a lot of sizes of dp needles but have a good selection of regular ones. Only buy yarn on sale as it is often 30 to 50% off and the sales rotate through the different kinds of yarn. For the good basic yarns (wool or wool blends in plain colors or heathers) I prefer my local yarn shop. But Michaels is still another resource and fun to visit.

Boy, if we were getting a Michael's here I would be jumping for joy. Our closest Michael's is 250 miles away. We have no yarn stores in our town either, or a Walmart or anything like that. I have never been in a yarn store yet. I've been meaning to look one up in our biggest city here, the one that is 250 miles away, but since I'm not familiar with the city and streets, I haven't found it yet. I go to Michael's while I'm there and also Walmart and all the other big ones. We make a trip over there about once every 3 months. We do have a small store in here our town which carries basically Red Heart Yarn and that's it. I order all of my yarn off the internet or else have a list ready for when we travel to the city. We just got back from there so I have a few bags of yarn stocked up to keep me busy till we go back in March. I think you're lucky to be getting a Michael's. Wish it was our town that was getting one. I think you will be pleased.

We have had a Michaels near here for a year now and they do have good sales on specialty yarns. The coupons are for regularly priced items only. I am not into the fancy stuff so I go to Walmart and they have a whole wall in the crafts devoted to yarn. I am starting to get into using patterns calling for thread and they carry that also. None of the stores carry enough crochet booklets or pamphlets mostly knitting. I have gotten a lot for crochet off the internet.
