Culinary Paparazzi

I saw this article and thought of all of you Food Pornographers. Eat it, don't Tweet it. Actually I enjoy the food photos here, especially the homemade food photos.

I don't know why the writers think only the young do this. They need to hang out here.

    ROTFL!

Thread and post of the year. Kudos!

Love it....food paparazzi!...And I seem to have lots of FB friends who do it.....but theirs is more about the steak just off the grill than the artsy phony stuff.

    Why.....Thank you, Jessy. I'm blushing.

Be sure to click on the links and watch the video.

I watched the video Pam, twice. Too funny

"I can't see the food, can you move your t**ts" LOL

    And that BEAR!

Yeah, that t*t line is my favorite.

    Nice one, Barnmom. Burrrrppp.

Loved it. Classic. Thanks for passing that on!

    Prrrfect! Thanks for sharing!

I agree with Jessy - definitely the thread of the year!

I did notice that the of their poll takers like seeing the food pictures, although I know it annoys some people endlessly.

Not that I care what other people think of what I do, say, wear or take pictures of, so I guess I'll continue doing whatever I darned well please, LOL.

Still, it was a funny video, I was rooting for the bear, he appears to be a raw food enthusiast...

It is so apt, the term "Food Porn"

There are two human activities critical for survival; Regular porn is related to human procreation, and food porn is related to eating which makes procreation possible.

As we know, both acts can be enhanced to boost the pleasure of engaging in them, but carried to excess, they both can lead to physical harm and emotional guilt.

I agree with all here that the video is funny; I also agree with the writer that it is somewhat juvenile.

It's MHO that the video is completely biased about "Food Porn". For instance, I don't know any of my friends or relatives who take pictures of food. I eat out a lot, I have yet to see anyone taking pictures of their food in a restaurant and I don't see there is a backlash of people who are fed up with seeing food pictures either.

On the other hand, there are way too many cooking shows on TV and on youtube.

I really could not agree more about too many food shows on tv. It seems every morning "news" show has a cooking segment every day. Now we have The Chew, too. You could watch nothing but cooking (and therefore eating) shows all day.

I do see people taking pics of their food in restaurants. In fact, I have been with some really nice people who took lots of pics of food in restaurants!

I wish we had more shows on actual cooking and recipes.
I detest all the competition cooking shows that are on.
It's obvious that Canada's food channel is too cheap to buy good quality shows. One of our Canadian chefs (Michael Smith) is featured 3 times a day.

I really miss Big Daddy's House. I think we only had him one year. He was good.

Food porn is the main reason I come on this forum. I never get tired of looking at all of your creations. Now, as for my friend who posts pics on Facebook of all the packaged diet foods she's eating- those I could do without.

Allegedly there are those who buy Playboy just for the articles.

I don't know too many who participate in a food forum just for the recipes.

My experience, based on writing a food related blog for over three years tells me that the recipe is as important as the picture.

Any time I post a photo without a recipe I get a number of emails asking me where they can find the recipe. I think that many participate on food forums for recipes. Just depends on the forum.

You just have to click on a picture on Food photo sites like Tastespotting and Foodgawker and you will be taken to the blog where the picture originated and you will usually find a recipe to go with the photo.

Also just look at all the blogs and other food websites sharing photos taken in restaurants, it is obviously a popular past time.

Nancy's Cookalong Threads (there are now 46 of them) are very popular and all about sharing recipes. More recipes than pictures.

Ann, the problem with the format of this forum, once you push the "Submit" button, you can't go back and edit.

    This was what I wrote:

LOL dcarch, I'm glad I just double-checked for subsequent posts before hitting "submit" on my rambling response! Now that you've rephrased, I agree with you.

"I don't know too many who participate in a food forum just for the recipes, and never look at the pictures"..

Well that certainly makes more sense.

The Cooking forum was going great guns before everyone had high speed internet and entering 5 pictures per post was even a possibility.
Pictures are fun....but really mean nothing unless directions are given on how to replicate what you see.
And while some say we "eat with our eyes first" I have been mightily disappointed in food that looks better than it tastes.
One example being "2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce cheese, on a sesame seed bun"......and the pictures of same.

Lindac, you left out the pickles and onions.

"---Pictures are fun....but really mean nothing unless directions are given on how to replicate what you see. ---"

If you like what you see, I don't think people would refuse to give out the recipe if you ask.

"----And while some say we "eat with our eyes first" I have been mightily disappointed in food that looks better than it tastes. ---"

Good reason why there is no need for recipes to accompany all photos.

In another very popular food forum where I also participate, there is a thread similar to WFD thread, of the 23,000 posts, I don't think many of them have recipes with the pictures. As a matter of fact, the 50 dishes posted in the past few days, there were no recipes attached to anyone of them.

Like most of the people here in this forum, I seldom cook with recipes.

I think many of us cook without recipes. BUT I am always happy to share a basic outline if someone asks.

I've found that many of the same people participate on other forums that I visit. And each forum has their own way of doing things. Often you will find photos on a particular forum such as WFD and find the recipe posted elsewhere in a recipe section.

I know that eGullet is like that. I haven't participate there recently, but in the past participants have often request recipes on the Dinner threads.

dcarch, I had to smile at that one considering from whom it came. It's easy to hide behind "I don't use recipes" but in reality it doesn't take much effort to give a fairly detailed explanation of things that you wing. Check out LindaC's posts - she's a master of that.

There's so much stuff I'd love to discuss with you but I know you'll all but flat-out refuse to talk about it beyond the most basic, general terms. Most recently I had questions about my sous vide leg of lamb which my dog enjoyed the bulk of. Looked great though!

Can't say I haven't considered that possibility on occassion. ;-)

This isn't a criticism, it's an observation. I look forward to your pictures. Sometimes they're pretty, sometimes they look delicious, almost all the time they're creative. Everybody's got their own reason to participate here; I could name a handful of people here that I've barely ever seen actually discuss food over the years. And that's fine, too.

You can ask me any question; I will do my best to answer. For me, it takes too much time to explain everything every time, and not even sure if it is of any interest to anyone.

As I have stated, I generally try not to be specific about extreme low temperature cooking because I don't want to be responsible for other people's health. There is plenty of information out there for others to make their own decisions.

Thanks. I participate here because I realize I have crazy ways of doing things for others' amusement. Most importantly, I am having way too much fun playing with food, I hope others will too join in and share the fun. I am also having enjoyed the benefits of cooking mostly healthy, and I want to share that with those who are interested.

Huh???!!! LOL, just giving you a hard time, no need to explain that one away. Seriously though, cooking temp is just a fraction of what I find you to be evasive about. But since you mentioned it, if you as an anonymous poster have got more at stake than Conde Nast, Scripps, and a gazzilion other publishers, bloggers, etc. who have no problem sharing cooking methods that fall far below USDA standards or a bazzillion restaurants who follow suit, then I'm truly impressed. Personally if I were that concerned about liability then when it comes to sous vide I'd just reference Douglas Baldwin's free online charts and let him take the heat if someone kicks the bucket after eating the food.

"This forum is for the discussion of cooking techniques and methods..."

I think we all stray far past that directive; whatever, who cares, it's all good!

Sorry about that. I didn't have time to make more than 20 videos showing some of the things I have done.
