Why can't you use costa on the cherry island? I have cherry cabs and was considering costa, the colors are gorgeous together... is it just that you want a different stone on the island altogether?

Yes, I wanted the island to look like a separate piece of furniture. I am worried that the island will now look like they ran out of cream cabinets. Had I realized this sooner, I would have used all cream cabinets and the Costa E. Help!

hello again....glad to see you settled on some costa! we have a dark wood island with white perimeter cabs and it doesn't look like we ran out of cabinets....only that we wanted a constast..... maybe if you use different details on the wood for your island, it will help look more like furniture. i don't think it will look like you ran out of cream cabinets though!

i do remember when i was looking for granite, i saw a beautiful white quartzite ( of course i don't remember the name) that looked great with the ce. would you consider quartzites?

What about just a creamy stone or quartz?

Can you post a picture of your Costa? Costa varies so much slab to slab but typically has gray or beige/gold veining from what I've seen, which I think works really well with Calacatta.

I don't remember seeing any marble suitable for countertops with green veining. When looking at marble slabs, did you look at any Calacatta gold? The veins are more golden rather than gray, and you can definitely find slabs that don't have as much gray veining as you would see in a Carrera, for example.

Cabinets are identical to perimeter cabinets. Also, I have a small kitchen 13 x 12 appx, and wanted to break up the green with a lighter color. I will look at the quartzie and a cream stone. If not, I think I will go with the CE on the island. I have been trying to find a marble with more of the creamier veining and less grey. Will keep on looking but I will need to make my decision within the next week.

We looked hard at CE for our bath, and we were trying to match to a botticino tile, so I think the colors should be about right!

What about crema marfil? Maybe too creamy but it is very neutral and you might find a portion of the slab with some swirling

Is that kind of stone just asking for staining? I guess marble of any kind needs to be sealed and cleaned often in a kitchen - frightens me but I see so many beautiful kitchens with marble?

I am still looking for a light or I just might go ahead and do all costa. It is hard to let go of an image in your head. I wanted white marble (light, clean look) to pull in the white of the cabinets, and am so stumped right now. Maybe in the morning, I will have an epiphany and make a decision. And you're right, there are so many gorgeous kitchens with marble.

At one time skoo posted saying he/she was using CE and marble, and I was wondering if anyone has seen pictures or knows how I can find pics of that combination.

I think Thassos would go with Costa Esmerelda.

I haven't taken good pictures lately, so here's what I have available. Although it may take a while to find the right slab, I really think you'll find a Calacatta that will work for you. I think the cream perim with costa and calacatta with cherry island would look really beautiful. I think all costa would work too, but I really like your original vision.

While I also drooled over crema marfil, I'm pretty sure it's not suitable for kitchen counters (too soft). When we were slab shopping, most people we talked to said Carrera, Calacatta, and Statuary were the only marbles they'd recommend to have a chance of standing up to kitchen use.

Another idea altogether - did you see bestyears cream/costa kitchen? The dark butcher block on the island looks really good in that kitchen and might be an idea.

Thank you so much for your help. I was considering butcher block but I wanted a stone with the cherry cabinets. I am waiting to see two new slabs of calacutta Oro on Tuesday. Hopefully that will work. I liked your kitchen and I think the CE and marble look nice together.

Totally different look, but when our granite salesman came to measure, he brought a piece of Rain Forest Brown that looked great with our Costa Esmeralda. We have the Costa on the cherry, and a creamy gold honed marble (if I think of the name, I'll post again) on our cream island, but I think it will look better the way you will do it (we didn't want the marble on the perimeter).
