I thought it was a doll. The hair was my 1st clue. But they do look so alive and real.

meant to add this... It looks like an old Samsonite suitcase but I imagine any could be used. Stuff with a couple pieces of sturdy foam and covered with button tufted fabric. I think it would be fairly easy to do. The bottom would/could be lined with 2x4 around the edge to screw the legs into.

I'm glad you got permission :-) You have a Schefflera arboricola, not a Ficus. Because your cutting was rather too long the new growth is high up and top heavy. It also needs more light. Come spring I would cut off the top and reroot it. I would also cut the old stem down to a couple of inches and let it resprout. In summer it can go outside. Mine is still outdoors since we haven't had a frost yet. eta does that pot have a drain hole? If not repot asap into a container with a hole.

The Peter Rabbit books are the best -- I am presently wrapping them (and an adorable PR plush jack-in-the-box, both from Vermont Country Store) for my newest grand-nephew. 66 years ago at Girl Scout camp, I had a counselor who read to us during cabin rest-time. I loved especially her "Tale of Two Bad Mice" SOOOO much, that when I had to leave camp, she gave me her own copy, and inscribed it to me. Still is one of my treasures, and I remember that young woman most fondly. =)

I don't know about the hair looking fake...Have you ever seen pictures of Velleen's grandaughter...That doll reminds me of her baby pictures.

Very cute...I have a huge doll collection. I love collecting the babies like this one. I finally packed them all away after I never got a granddaughter yet. I wanted them to go to my first born granddaughter....well I decided to protect them until then!

I admire the talent it takes to make one of these, but like several of you, they kind of creep me out.
