I'm Back-Latest Medical Update from Jannie

I'm BACK!!! Got my computer fixed, and I'm BACK!!! Yesterday I went to the Transplant Clinic, my third visit. Also the two week anniversary of my new kidney. I named her "Urina". Sounds Eastern European, right? Anyway, he said healing is good. He tweaked my anti-rejection meds. and I only have to go to clinic once a week from now on. The staples came out last Monday. ouch! Lasted either ten minutes or 90 seconds, I'm not sure. Hubby and I ordered in Italian food (big salad and lasagna) to celebrate my anniversary. AND I fixed my computer today (Saturday) all by myself. No heavy lifting, just plugging and unplugging wires. No biggie. The box the new router thingy came in had a sheet saying it was a do-it-yourself project! Yay! Life Is Good. Oh, and ladies, I've found the perfect diet. When I left the huspital I weighed 145. Today I weigh 122 lbs. My new kidney "Urina" is getting rid of all the excess fluid. When I feel better, I may go back to jogging/walking. Anyway, eveything is good here. The sun is out. And I'm getting lots of help from my 2 beautiful daughters!

In the nest town 9 miles over I go to a lady who has her shop right in her home. I pay 15 dollars thats including a small tip> For years now I tell them I want my hair cut 2 or 2 1/2 inches long all over. I never get a bad haircut. I usually get it cut about every 6 or 8 weeks. Now since I have psoriasis I have to have it a little longer in the back on the bottom to cover that up. She has leukemia though so I dont know how long she will be able to keep doing it. I have gone all over for a haircut but if I tell them how I want it cut I have no problem. My hair grows fast. Once in a while I'll cut it in between myself because it gets to long. I also cut my husbands hair. We bought a clipper at Target to do it and I do a pretty good job. Except for the time we were going to Canada for an INTERNATIONAL CLOGGING CONVENTION and I scalped him in one spot in the back and when it came time to do the NATIONAL ANTHEMS he had to go in the bathroom because he couldnt take his cap off. His hair grows fast too. It is easier to cut if it isnt too long though.

Life is so good!!! Keep on goin' Urina! You're a good little kidney. Some wonderful family and woman gave you this blessed life. In addition to the physical changes in your body, you must have experienced a lot of powerful emotions as well.

How long do you have to go back to the clinic weekly? Do the anti-rejection meds have any side-effects, or do you know yet?

I am so glad you feel better. Being postive and doing what you can does help. Just sitting around is so not good. But just don't do too much. Congrulations on your improving health.

Greetings Jannie,

What great news - and I'm not kid'nya!

I hope that the "getting used to one another" - which should be helped by the new companion being given an attractive name - proceeds apace and uneventfully.

How does it feel to be back in the game of giving something/one close to one a name?

I hope that you can send a message back to the donor family to let them know of your thankfulness. And it seems to me that it would be well if you could send an occasional message, for a while, to share your joy and exuberance, along with the appreciation, as I'm sure that, in the midst of their loss and pain, it would bring a substantial sense of satisfaction, as well: help with the healing of their wound.

I had a little diarrhea this week, not sure what caused it. May have been one of the anti-rejection meds. They sometimes cause "gastric" problems. Docs told me to drink 8 glasses of liquids a day to really break in my kidney. "Urina" is in my lower left abdomen. The incision is horizontal, so a good bathing suit will cover it. But I guess my two-piece days are over. I was so happy I sent cookies to my old job, my old dialysis hospital, my new transplant hospital and my old dialysis medical group. Yes it was emotional. Felt sad for the donor and her family, spent one day crying in my hospital bed. Came home in absolute manic-happiness, feeling invincible. But I'm playing it safe, taking my meds,drinking my water, resting, being very careful about hand-washing, etc.

I found a diet too, and I GAINED 55 pounds! Not
happy! They had me eating exactly opposite of
what we should be eating, and I guess I haven't
stopped. Starting a new way of eating TODAY!
