I only saw portions of it first season. Then I joined Amazon Prime (free for one month) and watched the whole season on my computer in the last two days for free. Love the series, And I used my ear buds from my shuffle so I could hear great. I will be keeping and paying for Prime!

I am looking forward to it too. Here is an article on Season 2 with pics in a UK newspaper, The Telegraph, on it. They series started on Christmas Day there.

If any VCR users are reading this, please answer my other post, "Need VCR Help". I want to TAPE this. (Can't DVR it; only have a VCR here -- and can't figure out how to make it work.)

Pam, they have repeated the 7 episodes of the first season of Downton Abbey frequently this past month. I don't recall if they showed the whole series on Christmas Day or if it was just 2 or 3 episodes.

If I didn't watch any of it last year, will it be easy to get into it and not feel lost?

I watched the whole first season online to catch up. Just go to PBS site and you can see what you missed.

Glenda- you will probably have some questions, which you can ask here or check online. It is really worth it.

I watched last night, but the closed captioning evidently wasn't available. I am so hard of hearing (I do wear aids) that I like that capability. It still was good, even though I missed a lot of the dialogue.

Phyllis - that's a shame about the closed captioning. Sometimes I have trouble understanding what the characters are saying and I stop the broadcast to rerun it - and my hearing is average, it's the accent that that slows me down at times.

Oh, I agree that the dialogue is sometimes difficult to understand. I used the closed captioning. I don't know if the CC is dependent on how you get your tv signal. We have DirecTv satellite.

Phyllis, could you watch (re-watch) it via the internet on the Masterpiece website? Sometimes I do that in addition to watching on tv, to understand better what is going on... especially at first to sort out all the characters. I think those who didn't see the first seasons' shows would get more out of the current season by watching the previous broadcasts (if it's still available).

One line I didn't catch was when Matthew's new fiancee' Lavinia & Lady Mary's beau Sir Richard were discussing something???? outside & were "caught" by Lady Rosamund. It seems there is more between the 2 than first apparent??

I watched 4 episodes from Season 1 today at pbs.com and used the CC simply because even though those accents are charming, it is difficult to be sure of all remarks.

I just love Maggie Smith as Granny...she cracks me up! :)

One of the problems we have with English tv show productions on PBS is that we will not be able to understand a word or short phrase here and there. I love the repeat button on today's TVs, because we will rewind to hear the words again. If that doesn't work, we will increase the volume and hit the rewind button. That always works for us eventually.

I do love this show. They have been running the repeats of the first season for the past 6 to 8 weeks, but you can get them online. Do take the time to watch the first season to understand the characters and their relationships. Besides, it is too good to skip that first year.
