Help! How Do I Disable my AC's BEEPing

Hey everyone, I really need some help here with the beeping that comes from my AC. It's not a malfunction or anything, it's just the factory built-in *beep* that the system issues *EVERYTIME* a button is pressed on either the remote or the unit dashboard. It is annoying enough during the day, but at night, when the roommates start adjusting the temp/settings it wakes me and anyone else up and interrupts a normally sound sleep.

There has got to be a way to disable this noise, it has no purpose other than to annoy and distract I'm familiar with computers so I know with a PC you can just pop open the case, find the cable for the onboard speaker and unplug it.

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the AC's beeping for good? It's loud, annoying, and useless and is messing with some serious beauty sleep for me and other people in the house. :)

Note: a social solution is not an option at this point, stopping the AC from squaking at ever button press is the only way to go.

Does anyone have any advice, even general suggestions as to where I might start? Thanks in advance everyone.

There probably isn't a speaker like you find in PCs. More likely, there is piezoelectric sounder soldered on the control board.

Take a look a the photo. The sounder is the black round thing with a hole in the top all the way to the left.

Provided your machine has something similar, it can usually be quietened by placing a piece of sticky tape over the opening.

Filling the hole with something non-conducting that will harden would work even better. Removing the sounder from the circuit board would be best. Properly done, it's removal is highly unlikely to cause any other problems.

Caution: All of this is an educated guess. That is a random board in the pic. Your unit is not guaranteed to be the same, or even to have a board, although one --is-- listed for it.

If you are not familiar with electricity and/or do not know how to take routine safety precautions around the stuff, do not open the unit up. You don't want to live up to your screen name.

BTW, your unit is probably a 580.71184100, not a 530.71184100. That's a real easy mistake to make.

++++Update---- You can't hide anything online! However, you can make it harder to steal, but, this only work for newbie! 1) At www.swishzone.com you can build flash without knowing flash, very simple, and yes, you can even crack it! 2) Source codes are everywhere, you can hide it, but then there will always be another site out there. "if you are good at it, then why bother to hide!" 3) Even if you put it in css or jsp people can still download the whole thing and open it. 4) If i want to steal a picture, I can use the printscreen command on my keyboard! So there is nothing to hide alright! Now email me if you want to make money online :)

The evaporator coil didn't necessarily have to be replaced with the furnace - maybe they wanted to make it easier for themselves (at your expense) to have a coil mount flush on top of the new furnace. You'll want to replace the evaporator coil with one designed for R-410A refrigerant and one that is an acceptable match to whichever brand equipment you chose to have installed. Carrier makes good equipment, and most brands are comparable these days. So you could have a Carrier coil over the furnace - the furnace is just responsible for moving adequate airflow over the coil (which should be adjusted when the new a/c is installed). Your C26-41 Lennox coil indicates a 3 ton nominal capacity rating, so I'm guessing that may be the size of your outdoor unit. Yes, 100k and 3 tons sounds like quite a bit for the space you're trying to heat and cool.

I think you need to identify your bees in order to know what to do about them. If they are honey bees, you can get a bee keeper to come and take them off your hands. If they are bumble bees, yellow jackets or other large colony-forming bees, you will probably need an exterminator. Or, maybe try a local university entomology department. Sara, the most affordable material solution is an acrylic base and acrylic walls. But, it is the licensed and skilled labor needed for a bath remodel that is driving the majority of your costs. Even if you chose the most economical of materials, it would reduce your costs by only the couple of thousand of the tile labor. The demolition and plumbing needed for the project would not change. If you are intending this to be curbless, that is where a great deal of the costs arise. A laundy room is not a solution. You might approach your local dept of aging office and see if they have any assistance in either a different licensed contractor suggestion, or in loans or grants that could be possible to help your mom.
