I don't know if the ashes were cold but does he know just how unsafe ashes are if handled wrong. I did a search "fires started from fireplace ashes" and there were many news reports, not only ashes placed in garages but but too near homes. SCARY! Glad all you had was the odor of burning not a fire.

Every week it is something! Yes, he knows about ashes and true they were not really, really hot, but hot enough to smell up the house. He couldn't smell them. This is a man that has decided we don't need insurance on our home! One of these days he might just really get smacked!

I agree with Chisue. It is just so stupid not to have your home and belongings insured. He doesn't sound rational.

You really have to be careful with ashes. A townhome near us had some melted vinyl siding up to the second floor, but not burned looking. I found out what happened. They put hot ashes from a fireplace or charcoal grill, not sure which, into a metal trash can with a lid outside by the backdoor. You would think using a metal one would be safe. It seems they put the lid on real tight and about 3:ooam there was a loud explosion. It seems the hot air built up in the trash can until there was so much pressure and heat in it the can it exploded. It must scared a lot of people, at least no fire.

Sue, I sure feel for you. I am amazed at the things that happen around here sometimes. Some nights I worry about falling asleep.
I always looked at these trivial things as possible laziness, but now I wonder if DH just isn't all folded up straight some days.
What are we going to do with these men? I always say, if they can send a man to the moon, why don't they just send all of them?

The ashes thing? Foolish.

The no home insurance thing? Beyond foolish. Ask him which one of the kids he wants you two to live with if the house should burn down. or some other disaster destroyed it.

Your under pants? You may want to put locks on your drawers. Dresser drawers, that is. ;0)

One night I gathered up all the garbage and put it in a giant black bag near the front door. The bag was tied closed so it wasn't leaky or smally or anything. It was rainy cold and dark out, so I let it sit. In the morning I got up to find my dog had torn it open and got into chicken bones and other nasties. Surely this guy has some redeeming qualities?

(((Sue))) I think you or one of the girls needs to make an appointment with a doctor for him. Tell the doctor in advance what you've told us here. Something's not right. Especially about the home owners' insurance. None of the things he's done lately seems normal to me.

Curiousity got the best of me. "just isn't all folded up straight" I've never heard this expression and can't figure out what it means but once you explain it to me, I bet I know someone it fits to a T.

Sue, this is very serious, I'm worried about your safety. Cutting up your underwear is funny on the surface but is a warning. The ashes inside is very dangerous, as I'm sure you know. I encourage you to get him in to see a doctor before something more serious occurs.

He is always cutting up his too tight socks or too tight underwear to use as rags for his polishing. My underwear was in his basket by mistake and I guess he thought they looked like they were too small for him and were his so he whacked away on them. There is no way to get him to a doctor unless he comes down with something that makes him feel really, really bad.

Next time you're out shopping with one of the girls, buy him a package of utility rags, cloth diapers, or something he can readily use for polishing/cleaning rags.

Yes, of course he has some redeeming qualities. He works hard, 6 days a week. He is good to his four children and their spouses. He loves my little Izzi, my Pomeranian. He doesn't smoke or drink.
