27- vs. 30-inch wall oven
Comments (22)My last home had a fantasticly massive 1950s-vintage 48" stove, with a unheated compartment off to the left of what must have been about a 33"w main oven compartment. This dominated the tiny kitchen it was in. From there I moved to another small apartment, this one with a cheapo 20" range, which makes me long for the 24" wall oven I had 3 apartments ago. I find 27" plenty wide for everything; I'd consider 30" more for the extra options available only in that size (i.e. Electrolux Icon single or double, and GE Advantium 240 wall ovens) that don't have a 27" equivalent. OTOH, some ovens, like the Gaggenau side-hinged ovens are available in 70cm (just over 27"w) but not 30"....See Morecan I go from a 30 inch oven to 27 inch?
Comments (1)Rozzzebud, did you ever figure this out? I am just finishing putting a 30" Dacor double oven into a 36" pantry cabinet and so I have the same issue. I was going to finish it with simple moulding, but a friend pointed out that the material from the framing on the doors would finish it out perfectly. Hope you had similar serendipity....See MoreWill a 30 inch wall oven fit inside a 30 inch cabinet?
Comments (8)I'm not fond of a triple stack in a single cabinet. It puts the bottom appliance at an unusable height, so it never gets used. I'm also not fond of the gutting that it takes to fit a 30'' oven into a framed 30'' cabinet. Most of the time, enough of the face frame has to be cut away that it requires reinforcing the sidewalls. I have one installer that completely refuses to do this withou a significantt extra fee, as it requires time basically rebuilding the cabinet. Each element has to have it's own platform, it's own dedicated electrical supply, (which many people forget about) and a cabinet rail between them. Even if the allowed clearances make it look as though there is no rail between the appliances, it's there, as that is how they are fastened into the cabinets. Can it be done? Yes, but not easily or cheaply. You need both an electrician to run all the new wires, and a cabinet maker to do the cabinet alterations. No handyman. No appliance installer. Someone who can take apart a cabinet, take apart a door a recut it to be shorter and put it back together, and stain some wood to match perfectly. Find the most experienced cabinet shop in town with a cranky old man working for them, and that's your craftsman....See More27 inch double wall oven under $2000 doable?
Comments (7)In my previous kitchen I swapped 27" double ovens for a 30" set. The appliance store used a local cabinet maker for these types of situations. He came at the same time as the appliance guys and cut the opening a bit bigger for the 30" set. Also check Sears Outlet. When we remodeled I found a brand new Kitchenaid Warming drawer there - still had the blue plastic on the inside for a fraction of the cost. They have a decent website but if you have one near you it is worth stopping in....See Morealaskangirl
