Cathy sent me an additional Swap gift with a very witty note.

Note the highlighted words. LOL!

I just love wood and the BOWL and the ROLLing pin are just amazing. The bowl is made of Mango wood. And the rolling pin is olive wood. The grain on the rolling pin is amazing. I have never seen anything made out of Mango wood before.

And the Eye of the Goat BEANs are totally new to me. Moe and I both love beans so I'll be finding something interesting to cook them with.

I cannot tell you what varieties do best in that area, but make sure you pick the correct trees. Some figs will sour, and split in the rainy, cooler climates, or not ripen properly. Teri, As Annie says, I made a whole bunch of little jars of preserves for a friend's wedding favours a few years back. I made several different kinds of things, spread out over the harvest season; all the jams and jellies went into those little 4-ounce jars. I did some salsa and some red onion relish in 8-ounce jars. In fact, I can most jams and jellies in those 4-ounce jars, whether for me or to give away. (We don't eat a lot of jam so we don't through them very quickly, and that way they don't go bad in the fridge once they're opened.) You can always put a recipe into smaller jars than it calls for. So if the recipe says it makes 4 pint jars or 8 half-pints, you can make 16 wee 4-oz jars instead! Just process for the same time for half-pints. (Jams and jellies you usually only need to process for 10 minutes, or for only 5 minutes if you start with sterilized jars.) The down side to the tiny jars is that it takes more batches to can a lot of them. If you have a rack you can put between them you can do them in two layers at once --- I use a dollar-store cake-cooling rack that is about the same size as my canner. Good luck! You should absolutely not be embarrassed, Cathy. I love the gifts and I'll put them to good use. The salt for "good luck" is on my counter, reminding me how lucky I am to have kind and thoughtful friends like you. Opposites aren't a bad thing, the world needs to be balanced with all kinds of people. Yeah, I know, I'm messy and disorganized and slightly off kilter, but I'm fun. (grin) I just happen to like farming and gardens and playing in the dirt outside far better than anything that I can do indoors... Lars, I think decorating the baking mitts is a perfect idea. I can let Makayla and Bud each decorate one side of the mitt, and Madi and Maci decorate each side of the pot holder, and then sign and date them. We'll see how well I know my grandkids. Makayla will either paint a farm animal or some food substance. Bud will make a tractor/monster truck/equipment of some kind. Madi will draw something from the movie Frozen and Maci will try to eat the paint, LOL. So, although we are opposites, the gift is actually perfect, even if it may be used in a way that is completely different than you were thinking. So, thank you again. Annie

The grain on the rolling pin is gorgeous and the bowl is one of the most unique pieces I've ever seen. I've never seen mango wood either, and it's just lovely.

Eye of the Goat beans? I had to smile at that, I know Ann T has, on at least one occasion, purchased a small goat for the freezer and that's the first thing I thought of when I saw the beans.

What a great final gift to the swap!

I love that rolling pin, and I would definitely use it. The bowl is pretty large (I think) for being made of mango wood. What is the finish on it? I like the leaf pattern.

I've never seen eye of the goat beans - you'll have to tell use what they taste like!

WOW, Ann your presentation did justice to the gifts. I am very pleased that you like the items as they were sent with all sincerity for all that you do for us.

I thought if anyone would appreciated the Eye of the Goat beans, it would be you.

Lars, Mango wood is being use more in the last two years with the depletion of the supply of teak wood. It is finished in a dark stain like walnut as mango wood is more yellowish and orange.
