Your list of favorites

Is there a way possible that you can copy and paste your list of favorites? With me traveling

from home to my daughter's, I would like to have my list with me at both places.

I do not want to hand write them because it would take me forever.

If your browser is IE level 7, you can click on the Button to add a favorite (or hold down the ALT key and Z at the same time). This brings up a list, click on the 3rd entry "Import and Export...". Select Import when asked.
This will then brign up a Wizard that will guide you in saving your favorites to a file.
What I did was, email the file, as an attachment, to myself. Then I can be at another PC, download the attached file, then do the same steps as when it was saved, only selecting Import in the Wizard.

I click on bookmarks, then click on manage bookmarks, then click on file, then print.

I was just browsing through my copy of Glowinski's book last night, so I'll second Don's recommendation of it. But for the American reader it has one important shortcoming, namely that Australia lacks some of the major insect pests and diseases you will face in TN. Perhaps the most important are the insect plum curculio and the bacterial disease fireblight. For example, Glowinski says the Hosui Asian pear is highly disease resistant; it may well resist the diseases found in Australia, but it is reputed to be very susceptible to fireblight here. Another shortcoming is in regard to the varieties: due to Australia's extremely tough regulations on importing plant or animal life, a large numbe of varieties we can readily get in the US are not available to Australians. For example, Glowinski lists only one readily available gooseberry cultivar, whereas over here there are dozens. But these shortcomings can be overcome by use of the web; I particularly like the fruit growing guides available on line from Penn State and Cornell. What is particularly good about Glowinski's book (besides its great readability) is that it is oriented to the backyard grower and manages to hit just the right balance between technical details more appropriate for a commercial grower and dummed down information of little real value to the home grower.

Here is a picture of my Henry Apples Dupree, Roxanne... This is what Diana has listed in her notes.... Henry "Apples" Dupree large creamy yellow named for the plumeria collector who found it. Big clusters, long lasting yellow and white, sweetly fragrant. The tree is a prolific bloomer. Henry originally thought was the tree named for Iolani which was a prize tree lost to borers back in the early nineteen eighties. The tree habit balanced, the season long, the inflorescence huge and fragrance sweet rose. 3+Ã¢ÂÂ bloom of a light shade of gold. The flowers appear in heavy clusters and have a sweet fragrance with hints of apple. Creamy white petal with bright yellow color toward center, nice texture, large to 4", wide petals and slightly irregular, smell like a good mixed of apple and jasmine. Flowers have a slight green tinge. During WWII, When a submarine departs its berth on the west coast and heads for the war zone the torpedo tubes are empty and all the torpedoes are stored in the Submarine and are armed just before being placed in the tube. On their trip through friendly waters the needed supplies are stored in the empty torpedo tubes. Henry stored several crates of apples in one of the torpedo tubes to be used on the long voyage in his cooking. One day before they entered hostile waters the torpedo mate decided he needed to test the torpedo tube, forgot about HenryÃ¢ÂÂs apples, loaded the tube with a test air charge and fired it. All of HenryÃ¢ÂÂs apples were projected out in front of the submarine with a big bang. As the submarine plowed forward through the hundreds of apples, they were hitting the sides of the submarine and bouncing along its side for the length of the submarine. From that day forward in the USN Henry was known as Apples Dupree. Scent is similar to the green apples which is fresh, yet sweet with a mildly sharp edge. Have a wonderful night!!! Laura

Google Chrome is a bit different, but I just dug around on there to find the method. Way up in the top right hand corner are 3 black bars. Mouse over to see 'customize & control'. Click it. Mouse over "BOOKMARKS" , and click on "Bookmark Manager", which will open in a new tab. Click on "Organize" for a drop down list. At the bottom, click on "Export". Create a folder in My Documents to put your list (Favorites Backup, etc.). You have now saved a copy of your bookmarks, as a clickable list, in My Documents. Remember, for safety, you may want to put this folder on a flash drive, OFF your computer. The Bookmark list keeps growing, so back it up every few months. This easy stuff is nice.

Long Island nurseries: please list your favorites!

Westminister Nursery on Westminster Rd. in West Hempstead. They have lots of herbs, veggies, and a large collection of peppers every year. Most of their herbs are from Gilberties, which I find hardier than where other places source their transplants and seedlings (bought some from Hicks that didn't seem as hardy or large). It's open later hours during the growing season and they have half off sales once or twice a year. Hick's I'll only visit if I can't get it at Westminster. It's just okay. They seem to have not that much of selection of growing medium for orchids and the more exotic plants, definitely less than some years ago which is disappointing. They do half off on their veg and herbs in the summer but it just comes to nearly the same price at Westminster anyway. For more exotic veg and herbs, I have picked up Tulsi plant seedlings in Bellerose/Glen Oaks on Hillside Avenue at the small grocery stores. I saw small pots of Curry plants at the Maharaja supermarket near the corner of Hillside Avenue and New Hyde Park Rd. in New Hyde Park. Very rarely I will stop by the farm in Malverne to check out what they have. All the herbs and veg there are organic and most of them are grown in coconut coir. Nothing too unusual and the prices are higher there but I did pick up some nice lemon thyme. In the same vein, I sometimes stop by the Queens County Farm and see what they have for sale in their greenhouse, I picked up some regular English thyme there. I've had the most horrible customer experiences at the Walmart in Westbury, I will never return there (although I did pick up a terribly abused orchid from the clearance section for about $7). The Lowe's in Garden City is nothing special, they carry mostly "Bonnie" herbs and plants and they are pricer than Westminster's herb flats and don't look that hardy. What I do is e-mail myself a letter and drag each of my favorites to the body of the letter.

Monica's way is probably simpler, but it gets confusing to me when I have to start holding down buttons and figuring out the uploads and downloads etc. Can you tell what I am not computer savvy? :)

gramzeeinmd, I had the same question. I would like to have a print out of mine too. I print out a lot of things, obviously I don't trust computers. I still need hard copies in my hand! I want printed pictures too, taken with digital camera. Can't see them in the computer!
Thanks for bringing this up. Did you ask this in the computer forum.?
I don't seem to have what it takes(program wise), to do what monica is saying.

Deb, here's a couple of things you can also do.

1) If you're using Windows, there is a folder "Documents & Settings". Depends on how that folder is set up, somewhere in there, you will find your "Favorites" folder. Burn it on a CD or copy this folder to an external memory storage device. Once you're at your daughter, you'd need to transfer it into the 2nd computer under the same directory "Documents & Settings". Make sure that if that computer belongs to your daughter, she's ok with that.

2) If you don't want to transfer the whole "favorite" list, you can just copy the links to a "compose" e-mail and save it as a draft. When you're at your Daugther's, open the save draft and you'd have your links.

Btw, if you don't have a CD burner or a storage device, you can also zip up the "favorites" folder and attach it to a compose e-mail and save it as a draft. Similar to what Monica explained but don't need to e-mail it to yourself.

Check out googlebookmarks. If you have a google account you can save all your favorites to google bookmarks. (Can also import from IE) The only concern with this is that the computer that you are trying to access your bookmarks on must have the google toolbar.
