condenser coil replacement cost question
Comments (4)I have an update. We called around and all the replacement coil prices are within $150 of the first quote. We did ask some friends who they used for their HVAC and they recommended someone they trust and have used for years. We called him and he will be able to replace the whole unit for just a little bit more than the first quote for the coil alone. The HP unit will be replaced with a new one on Monday....See MoreReplace evep coil or the whole unit
Comments (4)ann assuming the diagnosis is correct, then it would be foolish to spend up to $2K for evap coil only replacement on a 10 yr system. if you go this route, guess what? you still have a 10 yr old system. what is your location? IMO...See MoreReplace evaporator coil or whole air handler?
Comments (2)It is 14 years old and way past the warranty. The guy said the fan didn't have enough drag when he cut the machine off (it span for too long) so the motor must be weak. In that case it could have sent hot freon into the evaporator coil and that's what caused it to leak. He said the blower motor sounded too loud. The outside motor I can replace myself if need be but others are telling me, if it isn't broken don't fix it! The Carrier isn't happening lol. What would be a reasonable price for a Trane air handler to match my old 5ton xe1200 heatpump? Some say 2500, some 3000. Sears quoted me 6500 both Payne bottom of the barrel units!! Comments (3)Generally speaking, rule of thumb says a 5% savings with each one point increase in SEER. I don't believe it, probably close to 1/2 that. How did you arrive at $200 in savings? On new furnace, you will need a var speed blower or a high eff blower motor when going to a 15-16 SEER rated AC condenser and coil. If you are looking for payback justification, you will be wasting your time. There is a marginal savings with replacing everything over just the furnace now versus replacing condenser and evap coil at a later date. I think the better question is whether one can justify the difference between a 13-14 SEER condenser/coil combination versus 15-16 SEER condenser/coil combination. Because of manufacturer and dealer pricing, it usually is a difficult hurdle. IMO...See Moreroadking
