Nicole - I can readily sympathize with you. The other night we watched the Pixar movie "UP" - it was absolutely wonderful- tender, touching, funny ..altogether enjoyable. But I went though many tissues too.

Nicole, too bad you didn't see Titanic in our little town. I remember the sounds from the audience were loud. And I remember they brought the lights up way too soon. :-)

No, I don't cry out loud, but I cry a lot in movies. TV shows, too. Heck, I've been known to cry for COMMERCIALS!

Ohhhhhhhhh, in my teaching days, at the end of the year, way back then! I would rent Ole Yeller. Kids loved to see their teach with tears and pointing "Look, MS Smith, is crying". tee hee

Nicole...you can come to my house and we can watch movies together....and BAWL our EYES OUT!! I rarely sit with the family in the family room to watch a full movie. When it starts to get...or I figure it is going to get sad, I will come in and get on the puter...I can see the TV from the puter...but they can's see me! LOL We watched "UP" one night....I bawled the whole ENTIRE movie!!!! I don't know why, so many people loved that movie and I just don't know WHY?!!? lol

I have a bunch of 'chick flicks' waiting for me when Dean is out of town and I am all alone to watch! Then I can bawl my eyes out...all by myself and not have to contain it! =) Come on over Nicole!

Sometimes ... and there's a story read by the late Al Maitland, famous CBC radio broadcastrer, on CBC Radio One every Christmas eve called "The Shepherd" that makes me cry, every time! Missed it this year - attending naighbour's family Christmas party.

British air force guy flying jet fighter Germany to England for Christmas 1950s?. Instruments go out ... he tries to call English airports, without success: several shut down, Christmas eve, radio goes out, fuel low, foggy. In such distress, fly in short-legged triangles ...

.. an old W.W. II Mosquito (essentially an engine on a piece of plywood, no armour) shows up on his wingtip, guides him to long-closed airport near the coast, lights come on, engine stalls before he rolls to a stop.

An old caretaker comes out in a jeep, sets him up, gets supper.

He sees pic of airman with his Mosquito, "J K" in the room, speaks of it to caretaker, who'd been the batman of the guy in the picture and says that he'd been pathfinder for the bombers, flying too fast to be caught, dropping guidance flares, then returned, refuelled, guided in the damaged bombers: the batman pretty well worshipped the ground that Johnny Kavanagh walked on. When the stranded airman said that he guessed that he was still doing it, for there was "J K" on the nose of his guide's old Mosquito, batman said, sadly. "Oh, no - that's not possible ... Johnny went out on Christmas eve, 1944 ... and never came back".

With a well-told story on radio ... we paint our own pictures.

I'm crying, just telling the story, now.

Oh, I am a big old crybaby. My kids will ask me to leave the room for films they know I will sob over.

Anyone but me get blubbery over "Fly Away Home"? That's the film where the Canadian girl and her father use ultra-light aircraft to show a flock of young geese the right way to migrate from Canada to the Eastern Shore of N.C.? We watched that over the holidays and my kids both asked me to leave the room. Now, please, Mom?!

Glenda, just the thought of Old Yeller made my eyes get teary.

I sob so loud at sad movies my friends refuse to go with me.
And I get teary eyed just thinking about the sad movies I have seen.

Umm, well, I'd probably watch a movie at home with you, but no, I'd never go to a theater with you, LOL.

I do tear up, sometimes even at commercials, but I don't sob out loud in theaters, and I don't want to hear anyone else either.

I get teary-eyed, but almost never cry. However, at the end of Star Trek 2, when Mr. Spock dies, I made a spectacle of myself. With tears pouring down my cheeks, I started to bawl out loud. I put a hankie over my nose and mouth to hush up, and it sounded like I was honking. So embarrassing! It was the swelling up of "Amazing Grace" that did it.

I still remember 65 years later going to the movie to see "Lassie" and sobbing my little heart out. We were asked to leave the movie as mom could not convince me that Lassie would be ok. Vaguely remember walking up the aisle with mom wailing and wondering why all the other people were not as upset.

OMG Nicole, thanks for the laugh. LOLOL I can just picture you because that could be me but I have learned to not cry.

I used to go to the movies every Thursday night for years when the theatres closed after the last showing. My friends were the managers and the staff and their friends would get to preview the new movies the night before they were released. If I cried my friend Chris would give me one of his looks so I learned not to show him I was crying. I always had a tissue in my hand though. Big jerk. I loved it though when we went to see a movie during normal show times and not at his theatre and I caught him crying his eyes out. I can't remember the movie. He actually sobbed. He never bothered me after that when I shed a few tears.

I don't sob out loud, but DH always knows that I'm crying and he knows that I WILL cry.

"Up " is a great movie. It is a Pixar "cartoon", made for kids, but it is very adult friendly. It is the story of an elderly man who has an unusual adventure. Ed Asner (Lou Grant from the Mary Tyler Moore show) does the voice for the main character.

Not a chick flick, but definitely watch it if you get the chance. It's out on DvD now.

The first time I cried out loud at the movies was during Philadelphia. I made my husband pick me up at the back door. I refused to walk out through the lobby. Ever since then, I try to find out if a movie is at all sad. If so, I wait til I can watch it at home, in private.

Not a sobber over anything, rarely cry at movies except an animal movie, but even then I manage to hold it in and just have tears. I am always too embarrassed to cry in public so I hold it back and get the worst headaches! lol

I remember my mom and I went to a Lassie movie in the late 70's and neither one of us had a napkin or a tissue. We bawled, quietly, thru that entire movie and had to sit in there for a few minutes after to let our red eyes and noses calm down. Our sleeves were soaked! It was the one with Jimmy Stewart and just hearing the music of the soundtrack will make me tear up. It's a good one! lol

I'm sorry, Nicole, but if I heard out-loud sobbing in a theater, I would think it was someone cutting up and I'd probably shoooosh them, not realizing they couldn't help it!

I cry silently and I avoid talking till I stop. My husband also cries at sad parts.

I cried during UP also,esp. the first part. I didn't know it was going to be so sad! That entire movie is precious.

The older I get, the more I cry during movies.

I cry but don't sob.

A cute story. My friend and I took our kids, who were both 5 at the time, to go see "Mighty Joe Young", and I heard loud sobbing and it was my friend's little boy. It was very touching and sweet.

I will not watch the Blind Side..the 20/20 special was enough!!

I don't sob either..just sniffle...and tears streaming...

My friends take me to sad movies just to see if I'll cry because I never,ever do. I'm touched by stories but for whatever reason have never cried...I think I can't get past the fact that it's acting.
