Speaking of refusing medical treatment

My 63 year old husband has Multiple Sclerosis. He is very fatigued. He has trouble walking and with balance. He sometimes has bowel accidents because he can't get to a toilet on time. Those I can deal with, a shower and wash his clothing. But he also has bladder problems. Either he can't go or he doesn't make it to the toilet and wets himself. He has seen a Urologist-his prostate is fine and his PSA test is good. His neurolodist suggested he treat this "symptom" by self-catheterization. But DH refuses-he sayus it's noth painful and embarassing. How does he know? -he's never had it done.Anybody here sef-catheterize? Is it worse for men than women? This is a very personal question , I know. I greatly appreciate any advice.
