Another sunscreen question

Roseabbey's visual convinced me to find a sunscreen I can wear every day.

On the skintour site I read that high-zinc is the way to go.

My eyes are burning right now.

Is it the zinc that makes my eyes burn, or a different ingredient?

I have heard that it is the zinc that some people have issues with including eyes burning and breakouts.

I have found my holy grail sunscreen. LaRoche Posay Anthelios ultra fluid lotion 60 spf face-daily use. It is both a physical and chemical based sunscreen. Broad spectrum. Great matte finish, fagrane free, paraben free. Water (sweat) resistance, I wear to and from the gym. It contains mexoryl which is supposedly the best sunscreen against the uva rays which causes aging.

The only issue or rather question I have with it is when to apply moisturizer. I dont need it in summer months but do in winter. Not sure if moisturizer should be over or under. I have a feeling it should be over have contacted the company to find out but havent heard back yet.

I don't think it's the zinc -- it's usually the chemicals in certain sunscreens that cause burning. There are chemical sunscreens and there are physical sunscreens. I had the same problem with my eyes constantly burning from sunscreen and my dermatologist told me that the physical sunscreens, which actually physically block then sun from being absorbed, don't sting. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are both physical blocks. It was driving me crazy because I live at the beach and really need to use sunscreen but always ended up with burning eyes. She recommended using only physical sunscreens and gave me one called "Elta MD UV Physical Broad-Spectrum SPF 41". It's sold online at many websites but Elta makes many sunscreens, some of them chemical, so if you decide to buy it, make sure you get this particular one. It also has a light tint to it which I like a lot - I don't need any makeup in the summer over it. It's more expensive than what you'd buy at the drugstore but so worth it and a little goes a long way. I only use it for my face/neck/chest area obviously then use the other stuff on my body.

Janis~ The inside temperature will depend on: is the car in sun or shade? is the interior light- or dark-colored? are any windows cracked open? ground temperature? exterior car color affects speed of warm-up but prior questions have more influence overall. Link is to a nice little unofficial comparison, but there are quite a few different examples available on-line. BTW, I have baked blueberry muffins in a hot car, placing the muffin tin on the window shelf behind the backseat. They took about 90 minutes ~ 10a to 1130a, 85* [shade temp], dark car with dark interior parked in full sun. Won $10 bet, and we both agreed the muffins tasted pretty good! I only need to get the pictures uploaded to snapfish... it's possible the bowl of the boy's is going to be not grouted...we don't know yet, cuz court is in an hour and a half..it'd be a fine bowl, as is..... I need to leave in a few minutes, to the juvenile court house...if his mom gets custody, they will be leaving for Oregon this afternoon. this girl/lady is the same age as my oldest daughter..eleven days apart and is the daughter of a friend of mine, that I've known for 40 years... my friend lives in Corpus Cristie and advised her to call me, when she was at the CPS office, here in town and needed a safe place, right then...man, expedited background checks and a visit from the case worker and CPS case worker, here at the house and my place was approved, right there on the spot... ( I swear, they must have had blinders on...lol cuz my place is filled to the rafters with art supplies and not a lot of space to do any square dancing, in my front room!!) that was last Monday..and here we are, 11 days later and the future is unknown for them but it's a new beginning, either way... Zach went through trama and I watched a transformation, while he worked on his glass piece.. here, on this forum, we all talk about how doing mosaics is a healing process.. Zach got a broken finger, when he blocked a blow to the head, when his dad was beating him up... the dad had also taken everything important to Zach, including little clay pieces he had made, from first grade on...the kind made in the classroom, with clay, glaze and firings...all of his favorite games, his laptop (I think I mentioned he's 14 and is a very sensitive boy)and made Zach ride with him to the landfill...then threw all of his belongings in the dump and said he would have to work to pay for the trip to throw it all away... it was a cruel and needless assault on Zach, both physically and emotionally.... This week's journey helped him take something broken, both from himself and other things and make something beautiful from it.... he first walked in the house with a rather empty look in his eyes.. this morning he's full of hope... I only wish and pray the judge sees the same thing.... I have his bowl and some of my projects, in a display case right now, with an overhead light and it's so pretty... it's a 6 hour drive to where she lives and we've already been talking about her coming up to visit friends and an aunt, or me driving there for a couple days..but not in winter...I would take grout with me...lol the lexel is in a tube just like the GE11 and is 5 oz...it was under $5...I think it was like $4.85 or so.... it's a lot cheaper if it can be found in a 12 pack but then again, I'm not going to do that...lol it's gone a very long way, with just the 5 oz... the number on the tube is 13013, evidently to be sure which one it is, between clear or white or something... at least that's what I noticed, ....it's on the bar code and this one says 31525 13013 super elastic sealant it also says it sticks to wet surfaces...guess that would be in an emergency, to maybe fix an aquarium...?? I'd better be going now, to get to the court house...

I had to buy the entire tank set up!!! I was so freaked out by suddenly having a beta with no tank (knowing he cannot go in with my existing beta!!!). I just rushed and did what I could. Apparently, people I know think you can put a Betta in a vase and I don't agree at all! I live 10 minutes from a Petsmart so I was able to pull it off. I just checked on him and he was in a different part of the tank swimming, he saw me and started going to the surface and looked like releasing bubbles out of mouth in a fun way. Then He nestled in again on a leaf and seemed to be sleeping. I just feel bad about all the different water types I used- I just did t have enough of the bottled one. I will heed your advice and just condition tap water in the future! My other Betta you gave me so much advise on is doing well. I'm glad I got into this- they are amazing!! i plan on doing 25% water changes once a week on both tanks with conditioned water. Glad this forum was here. I just hope this new guy will do well. I worried I stressed him too much in the rushed tank job.

Thanks, dyh and others. MizGG, I'm glad you're okay. That must have been quite an ordeal. I'll have to look up what some of this skin cancers look like. WAY back, 3 PC crashes/deaths ago, I found a dermatology site with melanoma tutorials (for doctors but the site seemed open). It was very good. I try to put on sunscreen -- face, arms, legs, hands, etc. and wear a brimmed hat. But I tend to overheat and sweat a lot and when it's humid and hot, it is hard not to feel a tad smothered with the moisture of the sun screen. I still use it as I don't want sun damage or skin cancer. I have a few questions some of you may be able to answer. 1. When I've gone to my PCP and asked him to look at spots, he does. I've got some (? right name) actinic kera ____ on my legs. He never suggests I get an exam by a dermatologist. Should any of us mature folks do that as a general routine thing? I mean a general screening. Back along I read mixed news articles -- some suggesting yearly. Some stressing ~ head to toe, eyes, butt, privates...~ I've gotten a few bad sunburns and have been outdoors a lot during my life. As kids none of us knew about "sunscreen", just tanning lotions. 2. As for melanomas -- can/do they show up on areas that were _not_ exposed to sunburn? The basal cell ca usually (or always?) appears on an area of skin that was exposed to sun? I remember reading about the late, great singer, Eva Cassidy. She developed melanoma (on her leg, IIRC) and died from it. Such a lovely talent, gone as she was just realizing some success. Ah,Gail, another mystery solved by accident.
On the advice of the Skintour site, I had already ordered an Elta MD. I did not get the one labeled "physical". I got the one called "daily". They are both 9% zinc, and that was the part I was looking for. But the one called "physical" was said to be for "sensitive or post-operative skin". I'm neither, so I got the other because it appeared to me to be in a more convenient delivery system. But if I had understood that "sensitive skin" is code for "burning eyes" I would have gotten the other one.

Is "physical" a little more difficult to apply? I get the impression that other ingredients are added to make the stuff flow on better - ?

Rose - the link you posted is cemented in my mind. I really, really hate sunscreen and I have worn it every day since I saw your video. Thank you!

Hi jamies. No, it is not very thick and spreads evenly/nicely. I never noticed that it was for extra-sensitive and post-procedure skin but you're right, it says it right there on the tube! If you try it I think you will like it. I have never experienced one bit of burning and I'm sure it's running into my eyes. The other thing I like about it is that the tinting is just the right amount. I used to use another tinted sunscreen with zinc oxide, I think it was Neutrogenas, but it always had a white reflective cast to it, looked kind of weird. But this product has transparent zinc oxide with a bit of tinting, which works perfectly for me. It's also water resistant.

I use the same exact one that Gail mentioned - I think I may have heard about it here last year! I love it. There is just enough tint that it evens out any blemishes I have. It's not creamy or greasy like other sunscreens I've used, nor is it thick. It's not cheap, but a little seems to go a long way. I use it every day, but put it on in the morning before I go for a run and it never runs in my eyes or makes them feel like they are burning like other sunscreens have always done for me, even Neutrogena.

I dont think sunscreens with Mexoryl are available in the US

I was just in Canada and bought several while there, the US is behind when it comes to sunscreen.
