I've made a scarf out of ribbon yarn by using large needles (just swatch with sizes 11 thru 15 to see what looks best) and garter stitch. It's open and net-like but I don't understand how the scarf is "doubled" unless it was knit in the round in a tube like a sock. You can also get the same effect as double wrapped stitches by using "condo needles". If you have a set of interchangeable needles like the Boye or Denise, just attach 2 different sizes on each end, the size specified for the yarn and another much larger size, eg. 7 and 15. Just a warning about ribbon yarn - it may twist and can be frustrating.

Plymouth Yarn Company has a free pattern on its site for a ruffled-edge scarf made with Eros yarn. The Eros yarn is a ladder yarn, and I've made a lot of scarves with that yarn, and also scarves with a strand of Electra along with the Eros. The Electra is more of an eyelash yarn, so maybe the scarf you saw was made with this pattern and the Eros/Electra combo? There are a LOT of colors of both yarns. About a year ago I needed a beveled mirror to fit the frame of a medicine cabinet door I had made. I was locked into a size and could not find anything to fit, so I had one made. That little 12 x 17 was $80! I called all the glass shops in the area too, and that was the cheapest. Most were well over $150. If I hadnÂt had my heart set on beveled IÂm sure it would have been cheaper. But once again, I DO want beveled! (WHY am I so darn picky? My house can be dirty, but yet I NEED a beveled mirror. Huh. ) ThatÂs a good idea for mapping the mirror and pictures out on the wall with taped up paper. Beats having my husband try heroically to hold up 3 at once while I run back and forth to take a look from a distance. The border is coming down, just waiting for warmer weather so the bottom half of the wall can be painted. IÂm thinking of doing a simple chair rail instead, since top and bottom of walls will be 2 different colors. I might pick something simple for the molding. I have a feeling I will not find a wood species that will work stained. Maybe just a pre-primed pine or MDF painted a dark brown. I could add a glaze of some colors to tie it all in.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I think a shrug is what I'm looking for, although I haven't yet spotted one like the one at the craft show. When it wasn't being worn, it looked just like a scarf. The scarf would have been crocheted as a long rectangle - the length would be equal to the length of a person's arms, if they were standing with arms stretched out to each side and then a measurement taken from left wrist to right wrist (including the width of the back). Then the rectangle would have been folded and joined together lengthwise, except for the section across the shoulders, which would have been left open.
